Submission declined on 12 October 2022 by Slywriter (talk). This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies. |
- Comment: Possibly notable but POV and tone are currently the company telling readers about itself. Encyclopedia articles ajot notability are based on what third parties have to say. Slywriter (talk) 22:10, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
Zoe Empowers is a non-governmental organization that operates in Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and India.[1]
In Raleigh, North Carolina in 2004, the organization began a relief mission in Africa. After 2007 they changed their approach from relief to empowerment.[1]
In Malawi, orphaned children and vulnerable youth are given training in managing a business, how to stay clean and healthy, how to enforce their rights, and other skills, so they can sustain their households without relying on others for help.[2] The young people are provided tools they need to start businesses such as hair salon and barber shop equipment, sewing machines, and materials for carpenters.”[3]
After three years, the youth graduate from the program. Two Malawi government officials made remarks of support at a September 2022 graduation ceremony in Dowa, Malawi. The graduates use their training, micro grants, and supplies to continue the businesses they started while in the Zoe program.[2]
In Kenya, business training and tools are provided for orphaned and vulnerable children to help them support themselves and their family members. In a three-year program, the youth graduate with training in managing businesses such as hairdressers, plumbers, farmers, welders, mechanics, etc. The Zoe Kenya coordinator encouraged the government to "ensure youths are incorporated and given resources to improve their communities." The youth are provided funds and training that helps them develop self-sufficiency.[4]
The CEO asked the county governments to include these children in vocational trainings without requiring proof of prior education. He said these children could not attend school because they had to work to be able to feed their siblings. The Zoe organization has been working with these children who are supporting themselves. However, Zoe is not able to help "all the vulnerable children out there and this is the reason we are calling on the two county governments to find a way of chipping in,” he said.[5]
Zoe Empowers wants to give this program to other aid organizations.[6]
The .ORG Impact Award for the category "Fighting Hunger and Poverty" was awarded to Zoe Empowers in 2021[1]
