Witches of Amityville Academy is a 2020 British horror film, directed, produced, and edited by Becca Hirani.

Synopsis

edit

A young girl accepts an invitation to study at the private and exclusive Amityville Academy. Once there, she discovers her powers and realizes that it's a coven of evil witches trying to summon the demon Botis into the world.[5]

Reception

edit

Alexandra Heller-Nicholas of Fangoria wrote in her review "It’s a fairly simple set up, but there is such a pervasive sense of joy in this film that its spirit of fun is almost contagious".[6] Joe Lipsett of Bloody Disgusting gave the film two and a half out of five stars, stating "This is a totally fine, inoffensive film, albeit one that is a little too familiar and even a little boring. If you like seeing women of a certain age hovering over a pot or talking about repressed memories from another life, this is probably your jam".[7] A review from Movies and Mania wrote "Witches of Amityville Academy was perfectly fine, but it didn’t really achieve any sort of excitement".[8]

Release

edit

Witches of Amityville Academy was released to DVD on the United Kingdom on October 12, 2020, by High Fliers Films.[2] The film was later released in the United States on December 1, 2020, by ITN Studios.[9]
