Witches of Amityville Academy is a 2020 British horror film, directed, produced, and edited by Becca Hirani.
Synopsis
editA young girl accepts an invitation to study at the private and exclusive Amityville Academy. Once there, she discovers her powers and realizes that it's a coven of evil witches trying to summon the demon Botis into the world.[5]
Reception
editAlexandra Heller-Nicholas of Fangoria wrote in her review "It’s a fairly simple set up, but there is such a pervasive sense of joy in this film that its spirit of fun is almost contagious".[6] Joe Lipsett of Bloody Disgusting gave the film two and a half out of five stars, stating "This is a totally fine, inoffensive film, albeit one that is a little too familiar and even a little boring. If you like seeing women of a certain age hovering over a pot or talking about repressed memories from another life, this is probably your jam".[7] A review from Movies and Mania wrote "Witches of Amityville Academy was perfectly fine, but it didn’t really achieve any sort of excitement".[8]
Release
editWitches of Amityville Academy was released to DVD on the United Kingdom on October 12, 2020, by High Fliers Films.[2] The film was later released in the United States on December 1, 2020, by ITN Studios.[9]
