The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA) is a semiautonomous agency of the Government of the Virgin Islands. It is responsible for the distribution of power generation and drinking water in the territory.[1]
Background
editIn 1964, WAPA was created by the Fifth Legislature of the Virgin Islands through Act No. 1248.
Outages
editIn July 2007, an explosion at the plant caused four intern students to sustain non-life threatening injuries and a district-wide power outage across St. Thomas and St. John.[2]
As a result of an oil leak at the plant led to one of its workhorse generator going offline which caused all-day power disruptions in St. Thomas-St. John district.
