To'ti Yusupova (Uzbek: Тўти Юсупова / Toʻti Yusupova; 10 March 1936, Samarkand - 15 March 2022) was a Soviet and Uzbek actress of theatre and cinema, People's Artist of Uzbekistan (1993) and a recipient of several orders of Uzbekistan.
Career
editGraduate of the Uzbekistan State Institute of Arts and Culture. Since 1957 she worked at the Tashkent Drama Theatre named after Hamza.[1]
Among the embodied by the actress images of Uzbek, Russian and world dramaturgy are the roles of Hafiza and Hojar in the productions of "Silk Suzane" ("Shohi soʻzana") and "Voice from the Coffin" ("Tobutdan tovush") by Abdulla Qahhor, Sonya in "Uncle Vanya" ("Дядя Ваня") by Chekhov, the heroine of "Shubha" by Uygʻun, Nuri in "Sacred Blood" by Oybek, Honzoda and Mastura in "Bai and Batrak" ("Boy ila xizmatchi") and "Secrets of the Burqa" ("Paranji sirlari") by Hamza Hakimzade Niyazi and many others.[1] Yusupova's performance was characterised by a deep understanding of the socio-psychological aspects of the characters and the ability to endow their images with strength of spirit and spiritual beauty.[1] In addition to stage work, she has participated in the production and staging of radio plays and television plays, and has performed roles in approximately one hundred television and cinema films,[2] including the lyrical comedy "Abdulladzhan, ili posvyashchaetsya Stivenu Spilbergu" (1991), which became famous outside Uzbekistan.
In 1970, she received the honorary title of Honoured Artist of the Uzbek SSR,[2] and in 1993[3] - People's Artist of Uzbekistan. Later, her services to the culture of Uzbekistan were also honoured with the orders "El-yurt hurmati" (2000), "Fidokorona xizmatlari uchun" (2014)[2] and "Mehnat shuhrati" (2020).[4]
