The Fires is a 2023 Irish independent experimental drama film written and directed by Andrew Thomas in his feature film debut.
Premise
editHaving lived illegally in Canada for the past eight years, Danny Gallagher returns to his family home in rural Donegal. Danny spends his days isolated, seeking to make sense of the bruises left by his past by recording an audio tape for a person he no longer knows. Only when the tape is finished, and the house is cleared, can he finally move on.

editPrincipal photography took place on location in Glenties, County Donegal in August 2021, with additional scenes recorded in Vancouver, British Columbia in November 2021.
Release
editThe film premiered at the 2023 Galway Film Fleadh[1]. Film Critic Donald Clarke of The Irish Times described it as "an interesting, gimlet-eyed musing that is at home to darkish humour."[2]
