History
editThe Studio for Music Production was created in 2010 at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in Cologne, Germany specifically for the production of Popular Music to the technical standards expected in the commercial market. It was designed by Uli Herrmann for Schacht Architekten.[1]
It is the home of the MMus Production[2] course lead by Prof. Jono Podmore, who is also the studio’s director.
Facilities
editThe studio comprises of a spacious control room and a small live room. There are both analogue and digital connections to the Chamber Music Hall (Kammermusiksaal)[3]for use as a second recording space for larger groups.
It is a hybrid facility as it is equipped to make both entirely analogue and entirely digital productions possible.
Equipment includes:
- ProTools HDX system
- ADT[4]Mixing console
- PMC and Dynaudio monitoring
- Studer tape machines
- Neuman, AKG, Sennheiser, Coles[5], Shure and DPA microphones
The studio is maintained by technician Marvin Böttger with the help of students from the MMus Production course and the equipment is under constant review and continually updated.
