Stana in a Votive Painting

Stana Basarab was the daughter of Neagoe Basarab and Milica Despina. She was born in the early 16th century. She married somewhere in 1526 with Stefanita Voda. In 1527, just one year after her marriage, Stefantia died, a source suggesting that Stana poisoned him[1]. Now widowed she returns to Sibiu to her mother, Milica and becomes a nun taking the name Sofronia. She dies in 1531.[2]

Family and ancestors

edit

Stana had 5 siblings, Theodosie Basarab, Petru, Ioan, Ruxandra and Angelina.

through her father she was a descendant of the Craiovescu Family and Descendant of Dan I of Wallachia which means she was also descendant of the Basrab Dynasty, hence the family name Basarab

Through her mother she was descendant of the Brankovich Family and granddaughter of Jovan Brankovich.
