Ron Kellett is the director of both the University of British Columbia's School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (SALA)[1] and the Master of Engineering Leadership in High Performance Buildings Program.[2] He is the co-founder and co-director of ElementsLab, an applied urban design research group operating out of the Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability.[3]
Education
editKellett undertook his undergraduate studies at the University of Manitoba, where he graduated with a Bachelor's of Environmental Studies in 1975.[4] He continued his academic studies at the University of Oregon, where he graduated with a Master of Architecture in 1979.[5] Kellett has continued to work in the field of education throughout his career. Kellett has held teaching positions in the Architectural schools of both the University of Oregon and at the University of British Columbia.[6][7]

editKellett's teaching career began at the University of Oregon in 1985, where he was an assistant professor of Architecture until 1991. In 1991, Kellett was named as an associate professor in the school of Architecture, a role he held until 2003. Kellett's role at the University of Oregon's School of Architecture continued to expand in 1995, when he was named co-director of the school. In 2003, Kellett was promoted from Associate Professor to Professor, a position he held until his time at the University of Oregon finished in 2004. At the culmination of his employment at the University of Oregon Kellett simultaneously held the roles of Professor and co-director.[8]
University of British Columbia
editKellett joined the faculty of the University of British Columbia in 2004, when he was hired as both a professor at the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (SALA) and as a Faculty Investigator of the Design Centre for Sustainability.[9][10] From 2010 to 2012, Kellett was a University of Sustainaibility Initiative Teaching and Learning Fellow.[11] He received a Killam Teaching Prize in 2011 for his excellence in teaching.[12] As of 2023, he is the current director of SALA[13] and the Director of the Master of Engineering Leadership in High Performance Buildings Program in the Faculty of Applied Science.[14] His research at UBC focuses on issues of environmental quality in urban development and form as well as the design and creation of form based tools for research in urban design.
ElementsLab
editKellett Co-Founded and Co-Directs ElementsLab alongside Cynthia Girling.[15] ElementsLab is an urban design and environment researhc group based out of SALA and the Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability. Girling and Kellet work alongside students of the University of British Columbia, collaborators, and clients in order to advance the integration of constructed urban forms into the natural environment.
