Richard McMahon (born 1959) is a Professor of Observational Astronomy at the Institute of Astronomy, University of Cambridge. McMahon was Director and Head of Department of Institute of Astronomy, University of Cambridge from 2017 to 2022.
Education and Early Life
editMcMahon was born in Strabane in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. McMahon was educated at Christian Brothers Grammar School, Omagh. He studied for a BSc in Physics at Queen's University Belfast and then a PhD in Astronomy at the Institute of Astronomy, University of Cambridge under the supervision of Cyril Hazard and Roberto Terlevich.
