Praxitelis (Modern Greek: Πραξιτέλης, Ancient Greek: Πρᾱξῐτέλης) is a male Greek given name derived from praxis (πρᾶξις) which means "deed", "action," or "work" and telos (τέλος) which means "fulfillment," "accomplishment," or "purpose". One such form is Praxiteles, derived from the Latin transcription of the Ancient Greek name Πρᾱξῐτέλης, where eta (η), pronounced as /ɛː/ in Classical Greek, is rendered by (e) in Latin.[5] [6] This form is also adopted by English, German, and other languages, in particular in reference to the ancient Greek sculptor Praxiteles.[7][8]
Praxitelis is an english transcription deriving from the Modern Greek spelling and pronunciation of the name Πραξιτέλης, where the pronunciation of eta (η) has evolved to /i/. [9][10]
