Submission declined on 30 December 2023 by Sungodtemple (talk). This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies. The content of this submission includes material that does not meet Wikipedia's minimum standard for inline citations. Please cite your sources using footnotes. For instructions on how to do this, please see Referencing for beginners. Thank you. Declined by Sungodtemple 5 months ago. |
Submission declined on 30 December 2023 by DoubleGrazing (talk). This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources. Reliable sources are required so that information can be verified. If you need help with referencing, please see Referencing for beginners and Citing sources. This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia. Declined by DoubleGrazing 5 months ago. |
- Comment: Generally, no external links in the body of an article. Please use inline citations and format the image correctly using thumb (Help:Images). Sungodtemple (talk • contribs) 16:34, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
- Comment: The three sources cited are not enough to establish notability. If you are relying on the uncited sources to do this, cite them in the usual manner using inline citations and footnotes, see WP:REFB / WP:ILC. DoubleGrazing (talk) 14:53, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
Pasi Paavisto is a Finnish powerlifter[1]and former strongman, born in Harjavalta in 1967. He measures 201 cm tall and weighs around 130-140 kg. Paavisto has won several championships in junior powerlifting and also finished 2nd in Finnish Championships in 1990[2] in the +125 kg series.
After his powerlifting career he has participated, among others, in Finland's Strongest Man -competitions[3][circular reference] and several other domestic and international strength athletics competitions, such as Highland Games[4]. He still holds the Finnish record[5][circular reference] for Weight for Height, thrown in the Netherlands. From the early days of his Strongman career, he competed[6] with legends like Jon Pall Sigmarsson, Jamie Reeves and Riku Kiri.
From 1993 to 1994 Paavisto was also starring in the Finnish TV version of Gladiators, called Gladiaattorit in Finnish, where his role name was Retu[7]. As Paavisto was the largest of the male gladiators, he was at his best in events such as Duel and Gauntlet. One of his most memorable moments[8] in Gladiators was when he knocked a Contender off the Duel platform in less than 1 second. The history of the strange role name (compared to such as the Lightning, the Viking etc.) was explained in a Finnish media interview[9], where he explains how he joined the crew on second day of filming, when all the superhero names were already taken. Director Renny Harlin asked him what he would want to be called, and as he couldn't come up with anything, and The Flintstones had just appeared in movie theaters, Harlin decided to name him Retu, which is Fred Flintstone's Finnish first name.
Pasi Paavisto has had his own practice[10] since 2002, as a masseur and osteopathic therapist in his home town Harjavalta.
Pasi Paavisto obviously still goes to the gym for strength training and occasionally publishes training videos, like "Deadlift RAW 320 kg" and "Biceps curl 100 kg for 10 reps" on his YouTube-channel[11].
Some strongman competition videos of Paavisto have also been published on a Finnish website called Woimalaitos.
