Leafonetix was originally a conscript called Nooalf,[1] that later evolved. It started when Nooalf got a makeover known as Neweralf[2], and later on Leafonetix.
Background edit
Creators on Scratch, such as FoilageFeline44[3] and AlphabetonsOfficial,[4] made the conscript when finding that there are more sounds in the alphabet than known. Leafonetix improves consistency of spelling and shortens words to make spelling easier. For instance, many words in the English language rhyme but are not spelled similarly, such as "tomb" and "comb". Similarly, words such as "bough" and "cow" rhyme but are spelled differently. Leafonetix fixes these problems by replacing them by words like bɷ and kɷ.
A revamped version of Leafonetix has more letters, though most are diphthongs and are optional and are for accents.[5]
Letters edit
So far, Leafonetix contains 44 letters, which are described below.
Letter | IPA Equivalent | Example | History |
---|---|---|---|
Aa | eɪ | rain | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Ʌʌ | æ | cat | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Δ🜂 | ɑː | are | It was added in the Leafonetix era and was originally used as O. |
Ꜷꜷ | ɔː | palm | Added a little bit after the popularity. Originally used as O. IT was also moved from near O to near A. |
Bb | b | be | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Cc | tʃ | choked | It was from the original Nooalf. Due to C's redundancy being substitutable with K and S, it was used for the "ch" diagraph. |
Dd | d | do | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Eɛ | iː | peel | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Ҽe | ɛ | egg | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Əə | ə | canopy | Example |
Ff | f | fire | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Gg | g | grow | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Hh | h | hand | It was from the original Nooalf. |
İi | ɑɪ | rice | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Iɪ | ɪ | pin | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Jj | dʒ | joke | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Ɉɉ | ʒ | massage | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Kk | k | cradle | It was from the original Nooalf. |

Mm | m | magenta | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Nn | n | candy | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Ꞥꞥ | ŋ | pink | It was made in Neweralf, and used to look like Ии. |
Oo | ɒ | otter | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Ⴃσ | əʊ | row | It was from the original Nooalf. |
O͟o͟ | oː | croissant | It's a bit redundant due to how little words have this, but it got added in Leafonetix |
Ɔɔ | ɔ | horse | It was made in Neweralf |
Ꝏꝏ | uː | true | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Pp | p | happen | It was from the original Nooalf. |
ɔɪ | coin | After getting removed because of its redundancy, it was finally added, but originally used for "ow". This later got repurposed to "oi", because the "ow" was used by Ѡɷ. The "oi" digraph used to look like ⵚø. | |
Rr | ɹ | rails | It was from the original Nooalf. |
̶R̶r̶ | ɜː | purr | It was made in Neweralf because Rr took two jobs, which broke the rules, so they made this to tell the difference. |
Ss | s | asked | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Ꞩꞩ | Σʃ | push | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Tt | t | rats | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Uu | ʌ | uncle | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Աɥ | juː | unicycle | It was added for Neweralf, but there are a few hit-or-misses.
You can use "yꝏ" because it's much simpler, but that'll mean yꝏnɪfɔrm will be longer. It's still worth it though. |
ഥꭣ | ʊ | crook | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Vv | v | vacuum | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Ww | w | woman | It was from the original Nooalf. |
₩w̶ | ʍ | whey | It was added in Neweralf, and originally looked like Ɯɯ. |
Ѡɷ | aʊː | bounces | It was originally Qq, but got changed. |
Xx | θ | think | It was from the original Nooalf. Its redundancy led it to be like this because the "th" sound was available to it. |
̶X̶x̶ | ð | withered | It was from the original Nooalf. It's a variation of Xx that became its own letter. |
Yy | j | yams | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Zz | z | crazy | It was from the original Nooalf. |
Leafonetix Friends edit
There was going to be a show called Leafonetix Friends[6] based around these letters teaching kids how to speak. This would help them develop linguistics, and learn to read. Unfortunately, FoilageFeline44 quit this after being told that this was not a good way to teach kids. Leafonetix is still around though. There would be characters like Amy the Angel and Chester the Cheesemaker in it, too, with every letter having a corresponding profession based on their sound.
Etymology edit
Its name is a portmanteau of "leaf" and a misspelling of "phonetics" known as "phonetix". The leaf part comes from FoilageFeline44's previous name, LeafCat.[7]. This name is gone due to a new profile, but early projects show his previous name.
Flaws edit
There are some derogatory terms being presented when translating, such as the words chum and Seth. These would lead to vulgar words, and will be unsuitable.[8]
