Ava Kris Tyson[1] (born July 1, 1996) is an American YouTuber and internet personality. She is best known for her frequent appearances as a co-host on childhood friend Jimmy Donaldson's YouTube videos throughout the last decade, both on the latter's main channel as well as his secondary channels, including Beast Reacts. Tyson has been credited by Donaldson as having been his first subscriber as well as an early supporter of the MrBeast channel, which has since amassed nearly 300 million subscribers as of July 2024.[2]
In 2023, Tyson became the subject of widespread online controversey after revealing that she had begun hormone replacement therapy, a treatment commonly utilized by transgender and gender-nonconforming individuals. In the midst of various transphobic remarks circulating Twitter, Donaldson expressed his support for and defended Tyson.[3]
On July 21, 2023, Tyson officially came out as a transgender woman during an interview with YouTuber Anthony Padilla as part of the latter's I Spent a Day With... series.[4]
Career
editTyson began appearing in videos videos on the MrBeast channel in 2015. She has appeared ever since in Donaldson's YouTube videos across multiple channels on a consistent basis.
Personal life
editTyson was born on July 1, 1996.[5] Tyson resides in her hometown of Greenville, North Carolina, along with Donaldson and the MrBeast crew. She married Katie Tyson in 2018. The two had a son named Tucker in 2020.[6] Tyson later confirmed in a social media post in early 2023 that she and Katie had separated.[7]
In November of 2020, Tyson publicly came out as bisexual via Twitter.[8][6] In early 2023, she publicized her beginning hormone replacement therapy on her social media accounts, while changing her displayed pronouns to "any" on Twitter.[9] These actions prompted criticism from Australian YouTube personality Lachlan Windross, best known by his online alias Sunnyv2, in a video entitled "Why Chris Will Soon Be A Nightmare For MrBeast."[10] This led Donaldson to react on Twitter, denouncing Windross' claims that Tyson's increasingly feminine persona would harm his brand.[11]
Tyson officially came out as a transgender woman during an interview with Anthony Padilla, published to YouTube on July 21, 2023.[12]
