Kosmos 290 (Russian: Космос meaning Cosmos), It is one of over 2,400 Soviet artificial satellites launched as part of the Kosmos program. Kosmo is a generic name given to a large number of Soviet.

Kosmos-290 was launched from the Plesetsk cosmodrome , USSR, on July 22, 1969.[1][2] The launch vehicle R-7 Semjorka (Russian: Sejorka) (8K71, NATO designation SS-6 Sapwood) with an added stage placed the satellite into orbit around the planet Earth. The mass of the satellite at launch was 4730 kilograms. Kosmos-290 was an observation satellite.[3]
