Jim Ross (Mayor of Arlington)
Jim Ross is the current mayor of Arlington, Texas. He was first elected on June 5, 2021, and re-elected for a second term in 2023. Ross, a former Marine and police officer, is also known for his work as an attorney and local business owner.[1]
Early Life and Education From 1979 to 1983, Jim Ross served in the United States Marine Corps. Following his service, Ross moved to Arlington and pursued a career in law enforcement, working for the Arlington Police Department for thirteen years.[2]
Ross later attended Dallas Baptist University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice in 1995. He then attended law school at Texas Wesleyan University School of Law and graduated with a Juris Doctor degree in 1998.[3]
Legal and Business Career After passing the State Bar of Texas Exam, Jim Ross established his own law firm, the Jim Ross Law Group, P.C..[4] Besides his legal practice, Ross also became a local entrepreneur. He owns businesses in Arlington, including Mercury Chophouse and Hearsay.
Political Career Mayoral Election Jim Ross ran for mayor of Arlington in the 2021 municipal election. Running on a platform focused on public safety, economic development, and improving the quality of life in Arlington, Ross secured a spot in the runoff election held on June 5, 2021. He won the runoff with 54.45% of the vote, defeating opponent Michael Glaspie.[5]
Re-election In 2023, Jim Ross won re-election as mayor of Arlington, securing a second term in office. He defeated opponent Amy Cearna, securing 51.8% of votes.[6]
Personal Life Jim Ross is married and has four children and five grandchildren. Ross has also served on the board of directors for the Arlington Police Foundation, the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce, the Margarita Society, Special Olympics, and the American Heart Association and he is a member of the American Legion.[7]
