Jeevan Nagar (Urdu: جیون نگر) is a 2023 Pakistani television series. It features Sohail Ahmed and Rabia Butt in the lead roles. The series first episode was aired on 10 July 2023 on Green Entertainment..[1] The series revolves around the valiant protagonist, Babbar Shah, who becomes the barrier between corrupt goons and the innocent residents of his town.[2] The series is partially inspired by the English novel Prisoner of Zenda,[3] with the central plotline is derived from the play Ik Tera Sanam Khana, also starring Ahmed[4]

Plot

The story is about a man called Babbar Shah in a fictional town called Jeevan Nagar, and about his defense of the town's innocent inhabitants against corruption.[4][5] The story also depicts the rivalry between Babbar Shah and Palaster.[6]

In July 2021, Rabia Butt revealed that her next project is with director Kashif Nisar.[8] In August, it was reported that Sohail Ahmed will make his television comeback with this series after eight years, last time starred in Ullu Baraye Farokht Nahi (2013), however due to the delayed release of the series, he starred in Chaudhry and Sons (2022) in between which marked his comeback.[7][9]

Broadcast

On 29 June 2023, it was revealed by the channel's social media handles that the show will premier on 10 July 2023, airing episodes weekly on Monday at 21:00 PST.[10]

Soundtrack

The original soundtrack ‘Aap Kitne Haseen’ was released in June 2023. It was performed by Sahir Ali Bagga, and lyrics were penned by Imran Raza. The OST gained 5 million views on digital platforms.[11]

Critical reception

A reviewer from Dunya News noted Sohail Ahmed's performance but found the absence of protagonist "unexplainable".[12]
