Harshapriya (born 24 December 1980) is an Indian director, writer and lyricist who predominantly works in Kannada films. He penned songs of Dheemaku, Birugaali, Lambodara, Hebbuli, Hejjaru and several other movies.[1]

Early Life edit

Harsha Priya was born on 24 December 1980 to B. Shanmukappa and R Rajini, in Gorur, Hassan, Karnataka. His grandfather Shilpi Vadivelappa was a well known sculptor in Bhadravati. Passion towards literature drived Harshapriya to get graduated in Kannada literature from Kuvempu University in 2004. He actively involved in street plays about environmental awareness, disease awareness and AIDS prevention during his studies in college.

In 2006 B. Ajaneesh Loknath introduced Harshapriya to lyricist and composer K Kalyan, under whom Harshapriya worked as a writing assistant for two years. Later his collaboration with actor and director Naveen Krishna resulted in development of cult following film Dheemaku. Harshapriya wrote lyrics for three songs of this movie[2]. However film couldn’t achieve commercial success. He wrote screenplay for Krishna Rukmini and Amrutavarshini serials directed by Ravi gharani for Suvarna channel. It gathered wide recognition in television community. Later he went on to write a title track for Puttagowri maduve, Avanu matthu shravani, Aragini, Ondooralli Raja Rani, Mr.&Mrs. Ramegowda [3]

In 2016 he joined Zee Kannada and worked as commision head for 2 years. Drama juniors and Comedy khiladigalu are successful reality TV shows launched under his leadership. After promoting to fiction head, Gattimela and Jote jotheyali serials started telecasting. He has considerable part in taking the channel to No. 1 in TRP with his innovative approaches for wider audience of Kannadiga families [3]. Apart from being in television industry Harshapriya has written lyrics for songs of Dheemaku, Hebbuli, Lambodara, Hejjaru and other feature films [4].

As Director edit

He is debuting as director through Hejjaru movie which is presented by K S Ramji of Gagan enterprises. Film includes Naveen Krishna with whom Harshapriya is once again collaborating after 15 years.[5].It has an ensemble cast including Gopalkrishna Deshpande, Aruna balraj, Leonilla Shweta D’souza and Bhagat Alva.[6]

Personal Life edit

Harshapriya is married to Smt. Sunitha T R, who is also Co-Producer of Hejjaru. He has a daughter.
