Hanna Levenson, Ph.D. is half-time visiting faculty at the Wright Institute.[1] She is an author, researcher, teacher, supervisor, and therapist who has published on psychodynamic psychotherapy, psychotherapy supervision, and deliberate practice.[2] Levenson produced a series of 11 books and DVDs for the American Psychological Association on the Essentials of Clinical Supervision.[3]

Career

Levenson was trained in personality theory and social psychology at Claremont University. After graduating with her PhD, she became an Associate Professor in the Psychology Department at Texas A&M University, where she received commendations for her teaching ability. Levenson completed APA-approved postgraduate training at the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida, and did her internship at Langley Porter Institute, University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), School of Medicine in 1976.

Dr. Levenson served as the Director of the Brief Therapy Program at the San Francisco VA Medical Center for 20 years, and also held the position of Director of Clinical Training for six of those years. Her contributions were honored with an award from the National Organization of VA Psychologists. During this period, she achieved the rank of Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UCSF School of Medicine.

From 1991 to 2011, Dr. Levenson served as instructor of brief therapy at California Pacific Medical Center, earning the Outstanding Teacher of the Year award three times. In 2004, she became a member of the core faculty at the Wright Institute in Berkeley. She operates a private practice in both Oakland and San Francisco, specializing in therapy for couples and individuals. Dr. Levenson holds certifications as a therapist and supervisor in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT).[4]

Dr. Levenson is a Fellow of the Society for the Advancement of Psychotherapy (Division 29 of the American Psychological Association)[5] and received the Distinguished Contribution to Psychology as a Profession Award given by the California Psychological Association.[6]
