Early life and education edit
Nestor was born and spent is early life in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. He became interested in gymnastics at an early age and pursued this sport for 10 years. Nestor graduated from Cape, Elizabeth High School in 2015 and moved to Portland soon after to focus solely on his YouTube career.[1]
YouTube career edit
In August 2012, Nestor registered his first YouTube channel, "CrankGameplays", while still in high school.[3] He started his channel by creating videos of him playing various popular games such as Happy Wheels and Life is Strange. His channel grew exponentially and as of April 2024, his YouTube channel has gained over 2.1 million subscribers.[4] Soon after graduating high school, he began working in Los Angeles as an editor for popular YouTuber Mark Fiscbach, professionally known as Markiplier. Nestor and Fiscbach performed in many live shows, gaining recognition for Nestor's own channel. In March of 2022, Nestor started his own tour across the nation, and was able to secure tour dates at major venues across the United States.[1]
Unus Annus edit
On November 15, 2019, Ethan Nestor and Mark Fiscbach launched a new YouTube channel together called Unus Annus (Latin for "one year"). Unus Annus was a year long YouTube project where the two planned to post a YouTube video each day for an entire year. After the whole year of posting content was over, Nestor and Fiscbach would delete all of the videos they created.[5] This channel quickly rose to success, gaining over 1 million subscribers in the first 5 days of its creation. Additionally, it ended up gaining a little over 4.5 million subscribers in total. Unus Annus, along with all of its content, was deleted a year later on November 14, 2020, at 12:00 A.M. PST. The channel death had a huge impact on Nestor and Fiscbach fans worldwide.[6]

Nestor first appeared in the music spotlight in 2017 when he had posted covers of "White Christmas" and "I'll Be Home For Christmas" on YouTube. These covers were part of a collaboration with fellow musician Andrew Jaymes and appeared in their later Christmas album, "Merry Christmas To You" in 2018.[7] Nestor released his first original song, "When I Met You" on February 15, 2018, and according to Genius, is seen as one of his most popular songs. As of May 2024, "When I Met You" has a total of 13.2 thousand page views. [8]
Podcast edit
On April 18, 2023, Ethan Nestor and fellow content creator Sean McLoughlin, professionally known as Jacksepticeye, released their podcast Brain Leak together. Nestor and McLoughlin created Brain Leak as a way to be unapologetically themselves through their content. The podcast covers topics such as their careers, their personal lives, and thoughts on current events.[9] According The Guardian, a well known newspaper, Brain leak is described as a "funny and off-kilter deep dive into their brains".[10]
