European University Of Technology (EUt+)
editThe European University of Technology (EUt+) was founded under 2020 Erasmus + call and is an alliance of nine European technical universities across nine countries each with its own campus serving 110,000 students. EUt+ creates a new technological education and research model that incorporates humanities, social sciences, and engineering disciplines, offering joint European degrees in engineering and offers one unified diploma.
The first phase of EUt+ has already been implemented. In the second phase, EUt+ transitions from a project to an actual institutional process.[1]
European University Initiative
editContext and Origin
editThe European University Initiative, proposed by President Emmanuel Macron in 2017 at Sorbonne University, aims to enhance academic mobility and improve the quality and competitiveness of European higher education globally. [2]The initiative seeks to establish alliances among European higher education institutions to promote excellence in education, research, and innovation. It is primarily funded by the Erasmus+ program, alongside other EU funding sources and national or regional funding schemes.[3]
Principles of European Universities
editThe European Universities Initiative aims to improve the international competitiveness of European HEIs and promote European values and identity. The 2021-2027 Erasmus+ program supports these alliances with a budget of €402.2[3]million. European Universities develop and implement long-term joint strategies to increase access to high-quality and inclusive education, research, and innovation. European University alliances from European capital cities and remote regions across 35 countries encompass almost 1,700 associated partners.[4]
The European way of life[5] today mirrors European higher education institutions. To show the full potential of universities through European university alliances, the European Union and Member countries share a common interest in supporting the higher education sector by uniting around a joint vision and leveraging the diversity that enriches it.[6]
EUt+ Vision: the necessity of European values empowering technology
editNecessity of empowering European technology/ /Necessity of a European University in Technology
editEurope must catch up with its main competitors in technological innovation and leadership. This is true both in cutting-edge research and in terms of global company headquarters. The different legal and regulatory frameworks remain a challenge.[7] The European University of Technology (EUt+) aims to address global challenges that require bold action, with technology playing a crucial role. The EUt+ strives to serve as a benchmark for policymakers, guiding European strategy towards unified, evidence-based approaches to global issues.

Milestones and Key Achievements
editDuring its initial phase (2020-2023), EUt+ developed a new model of technological education and welcomed its ninth university[8], aligning with 12 characteristics of the European Degree. In its second phase (2023-2026), EUt+ transitions from a project to an institutional process, comprising 11 work packages, including PO 9, which focuses on fostering European identity and values. This phase is expected to culminate in the signing of the second EUt+ Act.[9]
After 2026, EUt+ moves towards full integration, evolving from a confederation to a single federative institution.
Evolution and growth list of satellite projects
editSince its inception, EUt+ has initiated and advanced several satellite projects that support its core mission and objectives. One project is Inno-EUt+ , part of the EIT HEI Initiative, enhances innovational and entpereneurial cpaacity within the European University of Technology. Comprising 7 European Universities (Cyprus University of Technology (Lead partner) (Cyprus), Polytechnic University of Cartagena (Spain), Technical University of Sofia (Bulgaria), University of Technology of Troyes (France), Riga Technical University (Latvia), Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (Romania), Technological University Dublin (Ireland), Chrysalis LEAP (Cyprus) and Stichting Water Alliance (Netherland).

A particular goal of Merging EUt+ / Formation and initial goals
editRooted in multiculturalism and a strong European ideal, EUt+ integrates societal needs into its educational framework with a human-first approach. [11] The European University of Technology (EUt+) embodies a principle of convergence aimed at unifying educational and research practices across its nine member institutions. This approach is fundamental in pursuing joint European degrees. This principle is aligned with the broader goals of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA)[12].
Joint Bachelor's and Master’s degree program/s
editEUt+ offers innovative joint Bachelor's and Master's engineering degrees that embody the alliance's commitment to a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to technological education. These programs integrate technical expertise with insights from the humanities and social sciences. Students benefit from each member institution's diverse strengths and specializations, enriching their educational experience.
Unique features and benefits of the programs
editEUt+ fosters a multilingual and multicultural environment, encouraging the learning of multiple languages. The flexible self-customized study track enables students to personalize their educational journey in a modular and adaptable learning environment. EUt+ emphasizes active student involvement and practical application of knowledge through a student-centered approach and engagement with research. Additionally, there is a strong focus on sustainability and ethical technological solutions, preparing students to contribute positively to society.
Research and Innovation: towards European Research Institutes
editKey research areas and projects
editEUt+ promotes research to contribute to the technology that addresses modern challenges. The curriculum is research-integrated, allowing students to engage with the latest technological advancements and apply their theoretical knowledge practically. EUt+ creates the European Graduate Research School (EGRS) that will integrate existing structures in the member universities and facilitate, among others, the inclusion of postgraduate students in the Erasmus mobility scheme, training with and for the ERIs, development, and support of masters-by-research programs. Also, the EUt+ Innovation and Technology Transfer Office, European Research Labs, and Innovation Hubs are their ways of creation. EUt+ accelerates the transformation of an open and inclusive higher education system in Europe and strengthens the European Higher Education Area.
Collaborations and partnerships
editEUt+ collaborates with over 350 companies and organizations, including industry leaders like Electrogroup S.A., Telefónica, Emerson SRL, the European Space Agency, GSI & FAIR, and AED-Vantage. These partnerships are integral to EUt+'s mission of advancing technological education and research. They provide substantial opportunities for EUt+ students and researchers, enabling them to participate in internships, research visits, joint master's theses, and specialized lecture series.
