How to improve a draft
You can also browse Wikipedia:Featured articles and Wikipedia:Good articles to find examples of Wikipedia's best writing on topics similar to your proposed article. Improving your odds of a speedy review To improve your odds of a faster review, tag your draft with relevant WikiProject tags using the button below. This will let reviewers know a new draft has been submitted in their area of interest. For instance, if you wrote about a female astronomer, you would want to add the Biography, Astronomy, and Women scientists tags. Editor resources

Submission declined on 9 July 2024 by The Herald (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia. This submission reads more like an essay than an encyclopedia article. Submissions should summarise information in secondary, reliable sources and not contain opinions or original research. Please write about the topic from a neutral point of view in an encyclopedic manner. Declined by The Herald 3 months ago. |

Defeng Sun (Chinese name: 孙德锋) is a Chinese applied mathematician and operations researcher. He holds the position of Chair Professor of Applied Optimization and Operations Research.[7], and has been serving as the Head of Department of Applied Mathematics[8] since 2019, and the Director of the Research Centre for Intelligent Operations Research [9](2024 - present) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Sun had also served as the President of The Hong Kong Mathematical Society[10] in 2020-2024.
Education
editSun received his Ph.D. degree in 1995 from Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing after obtaining his bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Nanjing University in 1989 and 1992, respectively.
Research
editSun’s research interests lie in the areas of non-convex continuous optimization and machine learning including mathematical theory, algorithmic developments and real-world applications.
Sun is recognized for his 2006 work characterizing the strong regularity of nonlinear semidefinite programming[11] and his software SDPNAL/SDPNAL+ for general purpose semidefinite programming[12].

- meet any of the eight academic-specific criteria
- or cite multiple reliable, secondary sources independent of the subject, which cover the subject in some depth
Make sure your draft meets one of the criteria above before resubmitting. Learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue. If the subject does not meet any of the criteria, it is not suitable for Wikipedia.
