Cătălin Florin Cîrstoiu (born at 18 noiembrie 1974, Pitești, Romania) is a romanian orthopedist which occuppy manager position of University Emergency Hospital of Bucharest since march 2020. He also occupied this position in 2009 to 2016. He is a dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy from Bucharest since 2016.

Education and career edit

Cîrstoiu was born in Pitești, Argeș County and he is son of Ion Cîrstoiu, an economist and a member of Chamber of Deputies of Argeș County in legislature of 1996–2000 and 2000–2004,[1] and of Mioara Mariana, an engineer.[2] Graduated Zinca Golescu National College from Pitești, as best graduate, in 1993, and Faculty of General Medicine of Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy from Bucharest in 1999, with Bachelor's thesis "Endoscopical surgery of malformations of female genital tract". He became a PhD in Medicine in 2006.[1] Since 2009, Cîrstoiu is a head of department of orthopedy and traumatology at University Emergency Hospital of Bucharest.[3]

In december 2009, Cîrstoiu became a interim manager of University Emergency Hospital of Bucharest,[4] after Gheorghe Iana's contract expired.[5] After that he became fully employed manager until 2016, when he decided to focus more on Faculty of Medecine of Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy, where he was chosen as a dean at 12 april [3][6] with a majority of votes.[7] Cîrstoiu was chosen again as a dean of faculty for 2020–2024 period.[8]

At 23 march 2020, in the moment of COVID-19 pandemy, Minister of Health Victor Costache chosen Cîrstoiu again as a interim manager of University Emergency Hospital of Bucharest after suspendation of Adriana Nica.[9] His comeback at this position provoked some critics; Vlad Voiculescu, ex-Minister of Health, reminded the Colectiv nightclub fire in 2015 and the bad management of situation in Univeristy Emergency Hospital of Bucharest, which manager then was Cîrstoiu.[10]

Political activity edit

In 2024 he applied for General Mayor of the City Hall of Municipality of Bucharest. At 20 march 2024, PSD and PNL presented him as an official candidate of this parties for city hall of the capital,[11] without being a member of any of this parties.

Personal life edit

Cîrstoiu is married with Monica Mihaela, a gynecologist.[2][12] Their godfather is ex-President of Romania Traian Băsescu, which gave him Order of Health Merit in Cavaler's rank in 2010.[4][1]
