Burrell Slater High School, originally Burrell Academy and then Burrell Normal School before becoming Burrell High School, was a school for African American students in Selma, Alabama. A historical marker commemorates its history.[1] It was established during the Reconstruction era in 1869 several years after the American Civil War. The school was sponsored by the American Missionary Association (A.M.A.).
