Bader Jamous was born in al-Tal city in Damascus Countryside governorate in 1968. His father was Dr. Mohyi Eddin Jamous, a leading figure of the Arab Democratic Nasserist Party who graduated from the military academy in Homs in 1958 and served in Egypt during the days of the Syrian-Egyptian union (the United Arab Republic). He was sent to retirement alongside many other officers in 1963 in an attempt to strip the Syrian army of competent personnel to replace them with others affiliated with the ruling Bath Party and loyalists to the authorities. He then studied medicine, graduated from Damascus University and left Syria in 1972 after persecution by the regime on account of his political activism.[1]

Study and Work

Bader Jamous finished his high school in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.[2]

  • He studied dentistry in the International University in Moldova (ULIM) in Chișinău, Moldova.
  • He received his Bachelor’s degree in Dentistry in 1999.
  • He pursued his studies and received a BA in International Relations in the same university in 2012.
  • He worked in the ULIM as an international relations advisor.
  • He was appointed as an honorary consul of the Syrian Arab Republic in Moldova for 10 years.
  • He headed ‘Royal Pharco’ and ‘Royal Garden’ companies in Moldova.
  • He contributed to concluding several educational agreements between ULIM and the University of Aleppo and Damascus University.
  • He further sponsored several agreements between Damascus governorate and the Moldovan capital, Chișinău.
  • He concluded an agreement between the Moldovan Ministry of Education and the Syrian Ministry of Higher Education.
  • He concluded an agreement between the Damascus International Fair and the Moldovan Exhibition Center.
  • He worked as a coordinator of Arab-Moldovan relations with Arab embassies accredited in Moldova.
  • He has acquired the Moldovan citizenship.

Political Career

  • In 2011, Jamous was one of the founders of the Syrian National Council and became a secretariat member and head of its education office.
  • In 2012, he participated in the founding of the National Coalition for Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces and became the head of the national education commission therein.
  • In 2013, he was elected as a Secretary General for the National Coalition and was re-elected for two consecutive terms.
  • In 2014, he took part in Geneva II Conference and was a member of the negotiation delegation in the negotiations held on 22 January.
  • He took part in the international visits and meetings with leaders and foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, France, UK, USA, Türkiye, China, Russia, Germany, Jordan, Egypt, and the League of Arab States.
  • İn 2015, he took part in Riyadh I Conference and the election of the High Negotiation Commission and became a member therein.
  • İn 2017, he took part in Riyadh II Conference and was a member of the preparatory committee thereof. He was elected to be member of the Syrian Negotiation Commission (SNC).
  • He was elected as head of the SNC’s external relaitons committee.
  • In 2018, he was elected as vice-president of the National Coalition.
  • Between 2017 and 2023, he took part in meetings with UN delegations, the UN Secretary General, heads of states, ministers and high officials. He also participated in several Arab and international conferences and convened many meetings with local, regional and international actors.
  • In 2022, he was elected as president of the Syrian Negotiation Commission.[3] [4][5]
  • After being elected as SNC President, he visited many Arab and European countries and met with parliamentarians and politicians of states actively engaged in the Syrian issue in order to reinvigorate the political process based on UNSCR 2254.
  • He participated in many workshops and trainings on negotiations, transitional justice, elections, political transition and accountability.[1]
  • He is a regular participant in Munich Security Forum, Antalya Diplomacy Forum[6] and Doha Forum.
  • Member of the Syrian Constitutional Committee
