The Siamese Architects Association under royal patronage (ASA - commonly pronounced as “A-SA”) is a center for architectural professionals and those who are interested in the architecture profession in Thailand. ASA is private non-profit organization held by selected ASA committee members. ASA provide many architectural services and supports to all members, the most known activities from ASA is ASA Expo, which is the biggest architectural conferences and architectural related contents in Thailand.[1]

Objectives edit

The Association of Siamese Architects under the Royal Patronage objectives are following[2][3]:

  1. To provide benefits in creating prosperity in architecture and environment by preserve national civilization as an independent architectural context.
  2. To strengthen unity among members to maintain honor and dignity. Also, in activities that are beneficial to members of the association.
  3. To provide knowledge, professional advice, academics, and benefits to members and society.
  4. To promote, support and educate, research, and develop to changes in the architectural industry.
  5. To cooperate with government agencies, organizations, and institutions both locally and globally, to develop and disseminate the trustable ideology, role and duties of architects.
  6. To promote, develop and monitor compliance with service commitments and ethics of the architectural profession for the benefit of members and the public.
  7. To set and certify standards regulations regarding the architecture profession.

In 1933, a group of architects who had completed their education abroad engaged in deliberations to establish an association. Their primary objectives were: First, to raise awareness of the architecture profession among the general public. Second, to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise among its members.

On April 18, 1934, the inaugural meeting of the association took place. During this gathering, seven initiators were elected to serve as executive committee members.

At the start, the Siamese Architects Association had 33 members and worked out of the Fine Arts Department. The founding members made the rules for the association. They also set up different groups to handle tasks like handling money, paperwork, planning for cities, and planning at the national level.

Additionally, the association sent out newsletters to share information about architecture and help members communicate with each other.[4]

Membership edit

Becoming a member of the Association of Siamese Architects doesn't have to be someone who works in the architecture industry. The general public who is interested in architecture can become a member.

Association of Siam Architects Siam Architects Association Under the Royal Patronage (ASA) opens for new members and membership renewals without fees to provide an opportunity for everyone to receive benefits, updates, news, and knowledge in the architecture industry. including consulting questions about architect work along with being able to participate in more activities of the association.[5]

The Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage has a monthly publication. This publication provides a specialist introduction to the latest Thai architecture. It is a great resource for anyone interested in the field, as it covers a wide range of topics and provides insights into the latest trends and developments in Thai architecture.[6]

The publication is part of the Association’s efforts to promote and support the architectural profession in Thailand. It is aimed at a diverse audience, including registered architects working in Thailand, Thai architects working abroad, architecture graduates, architecture students, architecture teachers, and retired architects.[7]

ASA Expo (Association of Siamese Architect Expo) edit

Association of Siamese Architects Including the annual architect fair or " Asa Expo" which is held every year around the beginning of May. At the event there will be a group of volunteer architects known as " Mor Baan "[8] who will give free advice on construction problems. There is an exhibition of work by architecture students from every institution. and the work of the country's leading architect offices There are professional seminars by important people both inside and outside the architecture industry. both from within and abroad and the thing that gets the most attention is construction materials exhibition The leading companies producing and distributing construction materials in the country come together.

The Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage has been organizing an event since 1986 to promote and provide professionally related information and knowledge.

The official architect festival, known as “Architect’ 29,' ' took place that year. In 2023, the event celebrates its 34th anniversary. The annual architect event It is called differently each year by using the Buddhist year in the Thai name (such as งานสถาปนิก ๔๙ ) and using the Christian era in the English name (such as Architect'06 ).[9]

The current management committee has approved the date and venue for “Architect’ 23,” which will be held from April 25th to April 30th, 2023, at Challenger Hall, Impact Exhibition and Convention Center in Muang Thong Thani, Changwattana Road, Bann Mai Sub- district, Pakkred District, Nonthaburi.
