Alon-Lee Green (Hebrew: אלון-לי גרין) is an Israeli left-wing and social activist who is the founder and National Co-Director of the Jewish-Palestinian Israeli movement Standing Together, and he was one of the leaders of the 2011 Israeli social justice protests.
Green started the first labor union in the restaurant industry in Israel, led to the signing of its first collective agreement, and established the labor union for parliamentary advisers in the Israeli parliament, the Knesset.
Biography
editGreen grew up in Tel Aviv-Yafo with his single mother and twin brother. He attended A.D. Gordon School.[1]
In 2006, while in his last year of high school, he worked at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and started the first union in Israel’s restaurant & dining industry due to labor law violations. He was fired but reinstated after a court petition, leading a six-week strike that resulted in the first collective agreement in the industry.[2]
In 2011 and 2012, Green was one of the leaderes in the Israeli social protest, organizing it's large rallies. He was arrested twice during protests in 2012 but was acquitted of all charges.[3]
Standing Together
editIn 2015, Green co-founded the "Standing Together" movement, a Jewish-Palestinian movement promoting peace, equality, and social justice. In 2018, he led protests against the Nation State Law. later on, he advocated for raising the minimum wage to 40 NIS per hour.[4]
In August 2023 his show on Israeli Radio, intended to discuss the occupation and the Arab-Palestinian community, was nixed after Right-wing pressure campaign led by parliament members.[5]
In 2023, after the 2023 Hamas-led attack on Israel, Green advocated for a ceasefire to end the war on Gaza and for a hostage deal. He also participated in the movement's "Humanitarian Guard"[6], protecting aid trucks coming to Gaza from attacks by right-wing activists.[7]
