Draft:Albert J. Augustin

  • Comment: Some of this reads like an advertisement: "holds manifold activities", "member of the editorial board of numerous journals". Some of the content is not in the sources and it's not clear to me that the sources establish notability. Overall this reads more like a CV than an encyclopedia article. Albert J. Augustin (born September 16, 1959 in Würzburg) is a German ophthalmologist, researcher and director of the university hospital, the Ophthalmology Municipal Hospital of Karlsruhe.

Biography edit

Albert J. Augustin grew up in Sulzfeld am Main in Lower Franconia. After graduating from the Armin-Knab-Gymnasium in Kitzingen in 1979, he studied biology and chemistry at the University of Würzburg. Then, he began his medical studies at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Heidelberg University and at the University of Würzburg until 1989. In 1990 followed the Doctor of Medicine at the University of Würzburg with a thesis on The Influence of Lipid Peroxidation in Mesenteric Occlusive Shock and the Approval as a physician.[citation needed]

Until 1991, Augustin worked as an assistant physician at University of Würzburg, Department of Physiology with J. Lutz on the topic Oxidative tissue damage following ischemia and reperfusion of the intestine; Burdening of the monocyte-macrophage-system by perfluorochemicals. In 1995, he became a Medical specialty in ophthalmology. In 1996, he received the right to professorship at the University of Würzburg. His post doctoral thesis was Investigation of oxidative and inflammatory tissue damage in hereditary retinal diseases, diseases of the retinal pigment epithelium, experimental uveitis, and dry eyes. He also became senior physician at the University of Bonn.[citation needed]

From 1998 to 2001, he worked as Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Mainz. Scince 2001, he has been Director of the university hospital, the Ophthalmology Municipal Hospital of Karlsruhe.[1] Augustin is also Visiting Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology, Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv.[2]

Augustin has authored several publications and is a member of the editorial board of numerous journals. He is an internationally recognized researcher and reviewer in the areas of "Pathobiochemistry and pathophysiology of oxidative damage to the eye," "Biochemistry of the tear fluid," "Immunology of experimental lens induced and autoimmune uveitis," and "Immunology of Graefe's disease."[3]

Augustin holds manifold activities in scientific societies, for example as vice president of the German Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, DGVII[4] since 2015 till 2022 and member of the scientific committee of the International Congress on OCT Angiography, En Face OCT and Advances in OCT since 2018. He is also member of the Bruno Lumbroso Lecture Committee and the Scientific Committee of the FLORetina. Society[5]
