Africana Famous Club was a legendary nightclub located near the Marina di Praia on Italy's Amalfi Coast. It was known for its unique setting in a natural cave at sea level. The club became a symbol of glamour and exclusivity in the 1960s and 1970s due to its ambiance and high-profile clientele.

editAfricana Famous Club opened its doors in 1962 and quickly became a hotspot for the international jet set. The club's natural cave setting provided a unique atmosphere that drew celebrities and affluent visitors from around the world, including a glass disco floor that allowed dancers to see the water below.[1]
Notable patrons included:
- Aristotle Onassis and Jackie Kennedy: The celebrity couple were frequent visitors.[2]
- Rudolf Nureyev: The famous ballet dancer, who owned a residence on the nearby Li Galli archipelago, was a regular at Africana.
- Gore Vidal: The acclaimed writer and bon vivant.
- The Platters: The American vocal group performed at the Africana.
Renovations and reopenings
editAfter a period of closure, Africana underwent significant renovations and reopened, continuing to attract visitors. Although the music and clientele evolved over the years, the club retained its reputation as a premier nightlife and wedding destination on the Amalfi Coast.
Permanent closure
editDespite its storied history and cultural significance, Africana faced operational challenges in its later years. It is likely the COVID-19 pandemic contributed to its decline.
