The 1980 California Republican presidential primary was held on June 6, 1980, as a part of the Republican Party's statewide nomination process for the upcoming presidential election.[1] Two-term Governor Ronald Reagan of California gained more than three-fourths of the vote against Representative John B. Anderson of Illinois and former CIA director George H. W. Bush of Texas
Reagan would go on to win the presidential nomination and would select Bush as his Vice President. Reagan would go on to win the general election against the incumbent Democratic ticket of President Michael Dukakis of Massachusetts & Senator Lloyd Bentsen of Texas along with the Independent ticket of Representative John B. Anderson of Illinois and former Ambassador Patrick Lucey of Wisconsin. `
Reagan would also go on to win the state of California and its 45 electoral votes in the general election.
