History
editA post office was established at Crete in 1882, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1918.[3] The community may have been named after the pet name of Lucretia, a local young woman.[4]

editCrete is located about 3 miles (5 km) east of the town of Lynn.
Notable person
editJim Jones, leader of the Peoples Temple cult, was born in Crete in 1931.[5]
