Categories merged edit

Country categories with fewer than 5 pages were merged by consensus at a series of discussions on the page Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2021 March 17.

@Mujinga: I removed a few that were not documented, or were in sub-cats already. Please review whether any of the remaining member articles should be moved down to Category:Former squats or its sub-cats. – Fayenatic London 09:51, 12 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Fayenatic as I requested several times at the discussion without getting an answer from anybody, where is the policy on deleting categories with less than five entries? In the case of for example Category:Squats in the Czech Republic I gave a rationale for keeping it which was ignored. Further, please stop messing with Category:Former squats, it's not helpful. @Mujinga: There is no formal policy identifying 5 as the cut-off for WP:SMALLCAT, but many precedents over the years at CFD have resulted in consensus to merge categories with fewer than five members. – Fayenatic London 10:56, 12 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
(Copied from my talk page, in order to keep the discussion on one place:)
Hi I'm seeing you don't really understand what you are doing as regards squat categories and to be honest my patience is wearing thin since things started off badly with another user making mass deletion proposals and refusing to engage, then we had a discussion in which a lot of ignorant comments were made ... and my questions were ignored. Now you seem to be making the mistake of assuming Category:Former squats is not a non-diffusing subcategory. This makes no sense, it makes much more sense to have Category:Former squats and Category:Squats in X. I'd ask you to stop making these edits so we can actually discuss it. Mujinga (talk) 10:42, 12 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
On the contrary, "Former" is a diffusing sub-cat. Squats can be categorised both as Former and by country, if there are enough to make a worthwhile category for that country.
I did not intend to test your patience with any of this. The consensus was to merge and purge. As a courtesy and to assist you with tracing the changes, I pinged you on the edits where I carried out the purge of articles that did not mention squatting (or equivalent phrases such as informal settlement). – Fayenatic London 10:56, 12 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
For info, Mujinga is challenging the 5-item cut-off, on my talk page. – Fayenatic London 15:39, 12 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
The pages moved by the bot are listed here : [1]
In some cases there was a parent category "Squatting in X". @LaundryPizza03: It would have been appropriate to have a double merge, where the resulting category would contain a worthwhile number of pages. I have manually put some of the squats back into those categories. – Fayenatic London 07:59, 13 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Former squats is not a non-diffusing subcategory = "Former" is a diffusing sub-cat Mujinga (talk) 23:11, 16 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
