Separate hatnotes from maintenance templates

edit

This Category:Hatnote templates for lists contains several templates that are more like Category:Wikipedia maintenance templates.
Proposal: I suggest per template, we decide whether it is a maintenance or hatnote template, but not both.
Backgrounds:

The difference between the two is:
  • Maintenance: box with article message layout
Hatnote: text only
  • Maintenance: about quality & improving
Hatnote: informing whether the user is on the right place
  • Maintenance: Inviting to action
Hatnote: informing + wikilink option.

Examples: longer list in Category:List notification templates (already declared non-hatnote: {{Alphabetize}}, {{List dispute}}, {{List missing criteria}}. In general, notifications that invite like You can help by adding items to the list (oh those early wiki days) should not be hatnotes or can be a hatnote without that invitation.
Currently up for discussion:

(Note: this last one doesn't show up in the category now.)
More information: WP:HATNOTE, Wikipedia:Template messages, Wikipedia:Template messages/Maintenance. -DePiep (talk) 07:05, 20 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

I agree that those listed should generally be message boxes, not hatnotes. Designate (talk) 03:54, 27 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
I don't see what's wrong with having a little variety, and multiple options to choose from. -- œ 09:05, 27 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
eh, none will disappear. It's just about being clair: a hatnote differs from a maintenance tag. A hatnote does not (and should not) ask to edit, for example. Also, I understand that you do not disagree with more clarity, while variety and options will stay available. -DePiep (talk) 20:40, 27 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

More categories eg: business, medicine?

edit

Hi, not sure if this is the right place, but it might be helpful to have

  • Inc-business
  • Inc-healthcare
  • Inc-medicine
  • Inc-military

...etc. Cheers, Facts707 (talk) 10:58, 24 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
