Instructions edit

I added some basic instructions at the top of this Category on how to add them to articles. This shouldn't be the only place; we should probably post a Quick Reference somewhere that instructs people on how to get started grading articles, and how to do it properly. Some film-specific criteria edit

Having gone through a few articles to grade them, I found myself using some of the following criteria in addition to those on the assessment scale:

  • If a film article has an infobox, a plot summary, maybe critical reception, and a cast list (basically information gleaned from IMDb), it is usually Start-class.
  • If a film article has that plus sourced sections on analysis, themes, etc, it is usually B-class or above. Moving an article up to GA, A-class, or FA requires official Wikipedia channels.

Comments welcome. Aguerriero (talk) 14:46, 20 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

My only comment is that I think that this should be the official grading criteria. I'm trying to start helping, but what they have on that page right now is just not helpful for grading film articles. The examples on arithmetics and coffee books need to be replaced with examples of actual film articles, and the criteria should be more specific like what you mentioned. If the FilmWikiProject wants help with this thing they need to make it easier for us to make the decisions and to make the criteria less vague and subjective. Esn 07:07, 27 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
One more comment... I've gone through some articles to try and grade them and discovered that articles are graded inconsistently by editors. I'm afraid to continue doing this, truth be told, because I'm afraid that someone will accuse me of adding what they perceive as an incorrect rating. For example, what if an article has everything that you list as being "Start" qualities, but its plot outline is rather brief (just one paragraph)? Some would rate it Stub, others Start. And what about an article that has a huge history/analysis section but no plot outline? Conundrums, conundrums... still, I guess I'll continue as best I can, at least until I get accused by someone. You shouldn't have to worry about being yelled at, people are supposed to be upset with the content, not the contributor (WP:No personal attacks). Also, you are right, that is the whole thing with grading (even in places like schools), different people grade differently and nothing is going to change that. As for giving an incorrect grade (even though there isn't really) good editors will just change the grade to reflect their opinions and that is it. You should still continue to grade articles, you are a big help (I've noticed). Cbrown1023 02:25, 2 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Question edit

Does one have to be a member of WikiProject Film in order to re-evaluate a film article's class? I would like to change Time Changer from stub class to at least start class. Just making sure I am within process. Thanks in advance. →EdGl 14:22, 6 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Went ahead and did it anyway. →EdGl 22:54, 20 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

New Rating? edit

I know we wouldn't want to get to deep into the number of ratings we have. But I feel that an additional rating is necessary to be placed between B rating and Start rating. I've found many articles on Wikipedia to between these too. Most specifically The Godfather, an article which has a lot of information, but little in the way of references and still needs a tremendous amount of work. It is rated as a B class. A B class implies that it is almost ready for GA, which the Godfather is no where near. If there was a C class that could placed in between the two in would fix the problem with a number of articles.
