Development edit

Creative director, Christopher Stair, began the game as a solo developer in early 2021 using the Unity engine. Lead programmer, Trevor Youngquist, joined soon after as the game's lead programmer. The game was first unveiled with a Kickstarter campaign in February 2022,[3] with Squid Shock raising $174,999 from almost 4,000 backers.[3] One of the goals reached was Nintendo Switch ports of the game.[3]

A proper reveal of Bō: Path of the Teal Lotus was announced at a Humble Games Showcase livestream in May 2023.[4] The game was also showcased at Gamescom in August the same year.[5] In February 2024, the companies announced a July 18 launch date.[2]
