Alia Ali (Arabic: علي عاليه, Sabean: 𐩡𐩱𐩲|𐩲𐩺𐩡𐩱𐩲; born 1985) is a Yemeni-Bosnian-American multimedia artist.

Ali was born in Austria and is currently based in Marrakech, Morocco. She has studios in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States and Jaipur, Rajasthan, India.[1][2][3][4]
Biography
editAli is of Bosnian and Yemeni descent. She was raised by linguists and speaks four languages.[5] Ali is a graduate of the California Institute of the Arts and Wellesley College.[6][7]
Artwork and exhibitions
editTextile is Ali's preferred medium.[5] Her artwork is partly based on Yemeni cultures and figures, including the Queen of Sheba.
Ali has participated in events such as the State of Fashion Biennale, the Mumbai Biennale, and the Indian Ocean Craft Triennial. Her work has exhibited in various museums, including the following:[8][9]
- Stedelijk Museum Schiedam in the Netherlands
- Katzen Arts Center at American University
- Arab American National Museum in Dearborn, Michigan
- Lianzhou Photo Festival in China
Her artwork is also currently held in the British Museum, Princeton University, Benton Museum of Art, Tucson Museum of Art, Montclair Art Museum, New Orleans Museum of Art,[10] among others.[11]
Lectures and workshops
editAli has lectured and presented workshops at Harvard University, the LACMA, the Middle East Institute, UCLA, University of Chicago, and Wellesley College. She is a Nikon Global Ambassador and also received the ARTSY Vanguard Prize for 2021–22.[7][12][1]
