The initial proposal page

Description: I'm proposing this WikiProject as I feel that the hotel articles on Wikipedia could benefit from such a coordinated effort. The project would aim to collaborate and direct the efforts of editors interested in improving and building upon hotel articles. The primary aim of this WikiProject would aim to establish a structure and consistency with hotel-related articles. I'm aiming to keep this as broad as possible at this time - open to suggestions.

Any comments regarding the proposed creation of this project would be much appreciated.

  • I agree with Luckyluke. I think this Wikiproject would be very helpful to a lot of articles. I say get going and start it! Good luck with the creation. Chupper 23:33, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
    • I would add GPS coordinates and, when possible, photos (so it also could serve as GPS car navigation). Create it--HybridBoy 07:08, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
  • I agree as well. Also I edited the "Motels" section only to have it reposted incorrectly. I am not saying the entire article is flawed, but it definitely could benefit from editing by people who actually know what they are talking about. Furthermore, my college professor actually confirmed exactly what I had written, but I had not asked him or anything. It was simply something he expressed on his own during the course of the class. Updating assessment template

If anyone in the project is listening, here are some changes to the assessment template that will allow flagging of articles that are lacking infoboxes and pictures:

|INFOBOX = yes
 |infobox              = {{{needs-infobox|}}}
 |INFOBOX_CAT = Hotel articles without infoboxes
|NOTE_1 = yes
|NOTE_1_IMAGE = Camera-photo.svg
|note 1                = {{{needs-picture|}}}
|NOTE_1_TEXT = An image is needed for this article.
|NOTE_1_CAT = Wikipedia requested hotel photographs

Inactivity - proposed merge

This WikiProject seems to be fairly inactive. As it only covers 54 articles at the moment (after ~3 years of existence), I recommend it become a task force of WikiProject Tourism. Please leave comments on this talk page supporting or opposing this change. I do not expect many replies, as it seems there has been little activity lately. Andyo2000 (talk) 03:13, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

As there has been no opposition, I plan to move this page in 24 hours. This may be a flexible target - I may not be free. However, this includes redirecting Template:WikiProject Tourism Template:WikiProject Hotels to the WP:Travel project banner. It may or may not have its own importance category. The main project page will be moved to a subpage of WP:Travel. The now-task force page will be edited to reflect the new status (TF vice WP). If there are any dissenting opinions, please write them here per WP:Consensus. Andyo2000 (talk) 03:35, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Keeping project, articles can be tagged by both WP Hotels and WP Travel and Tourism templates. --Funandtrvl (talk) 05:07, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Hotels articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Hotels articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

YOtel needs some love

I was just passing through the YOtel article since its coordinates were wrong, and I see there's been a bit of a dustup on the talk page with an editor wanting to delete the article because he feels it's overly WP:ADVERTy. To my eyes it's not too bad, although it needs a good copyedit and some general attention - it's a bit more interesting than some hotel chains and there's a fair number of sources to be had. Anyone fancy a go? Le Deluge (talk) 11:47, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Impala and Bahia

Hotel Bahia (Malabo) has absolutely nothing to do with Hotel (Aparthotel) Impala, and it never had. These are two VERY DIFFERENT hotels. Hotel Impala is located in downtown Malabo. Hotel Bahia was an small hotel facing Malabo's bay but not it is closed and its services are now being offered by Hotel Bahia-II, a brand new hotel located in a residential area of Malabo, near the Spanish Embassy (the quarter of "Caracolas" or "Pequena Espana"), —Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.87.175.70 (talk) 07:50, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

Strong suggestion

Hi and sorry for cannonballing through with such a subject, but I do suggest this Project develops clear guidelines for hotel articles. I keep finding hotel articles with lots of tags on top of them that seem to stick on for years. The problem is that they do have a point. Many articles read like they are reworded texts from hotel pamphlets and sound like ads. So I came here to find some proper guidelines for possibly correcting such articles, but the guidelines is an empty section. It might do lots of good if this changes in a way backed by some consensus. Hoverfish Talk 15:06, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

Fairmont St Andrews

I've just come across Fairmont St Andrews, a golf resort in Scotland. The main author is User:JuliaGoodman which just happens to be the name of a PR at the hotel and it looks like the article has been deleted in the past. The current version looks OK (apart from the heavily Photoshopped photos), but it might benefit from someone with more experience of hotel articles just having a quick look over it. Le Deluge (talk) 12:36, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

Honeymoon suite?

I notice there's no article on honeymoon suite as a hotel/motel room type and any attempt to search for the term just gives Honeymoon Suite as a 1980's rotten roll band in Niagara Falls, Ontario. I'm not even sure where to redirect this as anything I could find in the existing content appears to be about the band, not the room type. I added a brief passing mention of "efficiencies" and "honeymoon suites" to Motel#Architecture but I can't even find a wikt:honeymoon suite as a dictdef. There were not even any inbound redlinks for the term. Seems odd there's no mention at all? 66.102.83.61 (talk) 18:28, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

I'm moving the list of inactive members of WikiProject Hotels here to the talk page for archival reference purposes. Hotel San Miguel

The Article Hotel San Miguel, which is on the island of Ibiza is listed on a Afd. I would like to point members of this project towards this Afd as it seems to me to becoming a rather disappointing witchhunt on articles with hotels as there subject matter. Although I agree that this hotel is probably low down on an importance scale, its seems to have become a focal point for an element of editors/administrators who feel that wikipedia is not the place for articles about hotels. Members of this project should look at this Page (Afd-Hotel San Miguel and leave there comments — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stavros1 (talkcontribs) 07:20, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Reference sources

In general, I've always been of the opinion that one of the best places to start for trying to determine the scope of a given project, and the articles of greatest relevance to it, is with a reference book or two directly relating to the topic. Unfortunately, looking in the admittedly 25 year old Guide to Reference Books, I see only two of them at that time. They include the Financial Times' Financial Times World Hotel Directory, which apparently gets updated fairly regularly, and the annual Hotel and motel red book of the United States, which was at that time at least published by the Hotel Association Directory Corp. in New York. If someone could get ahold of these reference works, or any newer ones which have come out in the interim, and possibly start some list at Wikipedia:WikiProject Hotels/Encyclopedic articles or elsewhere giving the titles of the articles in those books, and if possible some indication of the relative length of those articles in those books, having such information available might be one of the best ways to most quickly ensure that most of the more essential encyclopedic content relevant to this topic is established, which would also make it easier to develop other articles on newer topics or new topics which might not have existed at the time of those reference books. Hotel Chains (in the Philippines) and Notability

Hello, I was trying to post an entry for a chain of hotels in the Philippines, but I got hammered on notability.

What are the types of things that make a hotel notable, and when should it just be part of an overall list?

Alex.osias (talk) 03:51, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

  • Hi Alex.osias,
I am probably the wrong person to answer your question, but it looks like I got here first, so I will give it a go :-) I would advise looking at some other similar types of articles to see what is acceptable at Wikipedia - check out Category:Hotels in the Philippines for example. Ottawahitech (talk) 05:28, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
I was just having a look at those, some have lots of cites but maybe not quite the right kind of cites....same with many in Thailand...and Cambodia and prob lots of others.......there's a guidelines page I was looking at somewhere maybe in WP:Companies that had types of cites that are acceptable; news items about celebrities staying there don't qualify, nor do items like a guesthouse in Thailand that was the setting of a book or movie......one at Point Poro on Luzon, can't remember the article name, has notable owners and was a military base before, as with Fort Wint also (where the only thing including it in the categories is the resort's link, with no write up in the text...). Trying to sort this out as I get asked about doing/writing them.....haven't looked at the hotels lists to see how/if they're cited.Skookum1 (talk) 10:25, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

The Cooper Square Hotel

Hi,

I work for Black Frame PR, who represents The Standard Hotel chain, which currently owns what used to be The Cooper Square Hotel. They have requested that the page be taken down as the building no longer goes by this name, nor is it owned in any way shape or form by those who constructed the building. It is also undergoing a major renovation, to be unveiled this Fall, which will render the facade virtually unrecognizable. Thanks for any help you have to offer. NickSpain (talk) 20:43, 16 April 2013 (UTC)Nick Spain

That's currently a redirect to a hotel in Manhattan, the The Standard, East Village; maybe it's been updated? I can try a PROD or speedy delete but it may have to go to WP:AFD.Skookum1 (talk) 07:23, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Notability and citation guidelines for hotels and resorts?

I remember seeing something along those lines on WP:N and WP:RS but it strikes me re the latter case that re hotels and resorts disallowing major citations such as Conde Nast because it's a travel magazine is a bit unfair to hotels/resorts....kinda different re Lonely Planet and Rough Guide listings/reviews which are more generic, and I've noticed quite a few articles that that's almost all they have. I want some parameters to work with/guide me before launching into a series of resort/hotel/location articles; I was expecting to find something on one of this project's pages, haven't found it yet, nor on WP:TRAVEL.Skookum1 (talk) 07:39, 6 June 2013 (UTC)

Move

I think this project would be best moved to a taskforce of architecture (rather than tourism). It's not a strong enough project with enough interest to constitute it's own project and then a new parameter could be added for hotels to architecture. I think under the wing of the architecture project it would be more likely to attract people.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:29, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

Leaflet for Wikiproject Hotels at Wikimania 2014

Hi all,

My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.

One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.

This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:

• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film

• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.

• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.

• Wiki Loves Parliaments, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves ____

• Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost

The deadline for submissions is 1st July 2014

For more information or to sign up for one for your project, go to:

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Category:Heritage hotels vs Category:Hotels by heritage register?

Hello! is there a definition for what you mean with "Heritage hotel"? Is it for hotels of the "Heritage Hotels" company, or for what else? if it should be for protected hotel buildings listed in a local/regional/national "cultural heritage" register, then "Category:Hotels by heritage register" would make more sense and i think "Category:Heritage hotels" should be merged into it. see also Category talk:Heritage hotels.

I come from Commons where I try to clean up some categories with too vague names like "Heritage buildings" and "Historic(al) buildings" (we normally use "built in year/decade/etc" instead, or if really protected, different cultural heritage categories). And because enwikis category structure is often duplicated there, i now try to clarify it here. Can someone help me please? Holger1959 (talk) 08:06, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Category:Heritage hotels would be hotels run in heritage buildings, e.g. former palaces, or are themselves heritage properties. Category:Hotels by heritage register could be a sub category, as not many countries have a heritage register per se. --Ekabhishektalk 06:44, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Request to update the Hilton Worldwide article's infobox

Hi, I'm here on behalf of Hilton Worldwide to request an update to the article's infobox. I've proposed three updates, which are described here. I've requested updates to the revenue figure and number of employees, and removal of the parent company.

These are simple edits to make, and I've provided formatted referencing, but I prefer not to edit the article directly because of my COI. Is there someone who is able to respond to this request? On behalf of Hilton Worldwide, I'd like to request another update to the article, this time in its "History" section. I've identified some corrections/updates that should be made to the article, which should be pretty easy to complete since the information all comes from a single website and does not require reference formatting or the inclusion of additional inline citations. However, I would prefer not to make these edits directly because of my conflict of interest. Is there a WikiProject Hotels participant who is willing to review my request here? Seeking help to update the Hilton Worldwide article

  Resolved

WikiProject Hotels participants have been kind enough to help before, so I thought I'd try here again.

I've been proposing a series of edit requests on the article's talk page on behalf of Hilton. The first of my two most recent edit requests is to update the article with information about HNA Group agreeing to acquire a 25 percent equity interest in Hilton from Blackstone, and the number of HHonors members. The second request is to correct wording about Hilton Worldwide Holdings turning its hotel holdings into a real estate investment trust, and adding a detail about Hilton being named one of the "World's 25 Best Multinational Workplaces" by Fortune and Great Place to Work.

I've been given permission by a reviewing editor to implement the second edit request, but I'd prefer not to edit the article directly because of my conflict of interest. I am looking for editors to review and implement these requests as appropriate, and I'm hoping someone here may be available to help. I can respond to questions here or on the article's talk page. The second edit request has been answered (thanks to User:WhisperToMe), but I am still looking for a volunteer to help with this edit request, which should be pretty easy to review. Is there a project member who is able to help? Inkian Jason (talk) 19:48, 28 December 2016 (UTC)

Help with Curio?

Hi there! I'm writing to see if editors here would be willing to review changes I have for the Curio (brand) article. I am suggesting the updates on behalf of Hilton and will not make any changes to the article myself. Editors in this project may remember a similar request I made here about a year ago. I'd appreciate it if someone could take a look, give feedback, and make the changes if they seem OK. Thanks! Heatherer (talk) 19:53, 27 February 2017 (UTC)

In addition, I have requested four changes to the Hilton Hotels & Resorts article. Thanks! Heatherer (talk) 16:16, 6 March 2017 (UTC)

Edit request and move discussion for Hilton article

  Resolved

On behalf of Hilton, I've submitted an edit request for some small updates to the Hilton Inc. article. You can view the request here: Talk:Hilton_Inc.#Edit_request_2.

I should also note the ongoing discussion regarding the article's title, which can be seen near the bottom of the article's talk page. Some editors have suggested merging the Hilton Inc. article and Hilton Hotels & Resorts, so some updates may be needed to differentiate the flagship brand from the parent company. I encourage project members to contribute to the discussion. Thank you. Inkian Jason (talk) 15:57, 12 May 2017 (UTC)

Just a quick update: The move discussion has closed, but you can see remaining edit requests at Talk:Hilton_Worldwide#Edit_request. Thank you. Inkian Jason (talk) 15:07, 18 May 2017 (UTC)
These edit requests have been answered. I am marking this section as resolved. Inkian Jason (talk) 15:22, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

Edit requests for Hilton Worldwide article

  Resolved

I've been proposing a series of edit requests on the Hilton Worldwide talk page on behalf of Hilton. I recently submitted two requests, both of which suggest references for unsourced parts of the current "History" section. I broke them up into separate requests to make reviewing easier. I won't edit the article directly because of my conflict of interest, and I am looking for editors to review and implement these requests appropriately. WikiProject Hotels participants have been helpful in the past, so I thought I'd try here again. Thanks for your consideration. Inkian Jason (talk) 19:48, 14 September 2017 (UTC)

These two edit requests have been answered, but I've posted another one here, if any project member is willing to help out. Thanks again. Inkian Jason (talk) 22:03, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
Done These edit requests have been answered, so I am marking this section as resolved. Inkian Jason (talk) 22:28, 15 December 2017 (UTC)

Suggest move member listing to separate page

Recommend Wikipedia:WikiProject Hotels/Members. If that's a bad idea, please feel free to delete that members listing as redundant. Trilotat (talk) 05:49, 22 June 2018 (UTC)

I stayed here, is one of the amazing architecture hotel that I visited. I think the page is useful to remain published. It helped me to choose the best place to stay — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.233.85.110 (talk) 16:51, 23 June 2018 (UTC)

Improvements to Choice Hotels article

Hi, WikiProject Hotels! Over the past few months, I've been working with Choice Hotels to improve the company's Wikipedia article. I will not be editing the article directly because of my COI, and I've shared a draft here for community review. I plan to submit a series of requests with specific improvements on a section by section basis, and so far I've posted one here for improving the current "Founding and early years" section, which is unsourced in its entirety. Is a WikiProject member willing to review the proposed text and update the article appropriately? Thanks in advance for any assistance. Inkian Jason (talk) 14:57, 23 October 2018 (UTC)

Thanks to WhisperToMe for assisting with the first request. I've posted a second one here if a project member is able to help. My goal is to remove unsourced and poorly-sourced content, provide a more complete (and sourced) overview of the company's expansion, and eliminate the "sandwiched" text seen in the current section. Thanks again, Inkian Jason (talk) 16:31, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
Thanks again. Moving along, I've posted a new request for the "Recent history" section here. Inkian Jason (talk) 21:20, 1 November 2018 (UTC)

A new newsletter directory is out!

A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
