I've completed an Article named "Neolamprologus brevis" in the Language German. Its good- and it would expand the English article.

But I cant translate it, because im swiss, and I learn English in shool, and im not very good at the Language.

Does someone know, how translate the article without Google?

I imagine that someone must answer me on my Talk-page. Its on Wikipedia.de (German Wikipedia!)

You might look for German speakers at WP:Translators available. My own limited German is probably not up to scientific text. I've added the {{Expand German}} notice to the top of Neolamprologus brevis, and someone who likes doing translation might find the page that way, too. That is an easy way to mark articles that have better pages on the German Wikipedia.

Popular pages tool update

As of January, the popular pages tool has moved from the Toolserver to Wikimedia Tool Labs. The code has changed significantly from the Toolserver version, but users should notice few differences. Please take a moment to look over your project's list for any anomalies, such as pages that you expect to see that are missing or pages that seem to have more views than expected. Note that unlike other tools, this tool aggregates all views from redirects, which means it will typically have higher numbers. (For January 2014 specifically, 35 hours of data is missing from the WMF data, which was approximated from other dates. For most articles, this should yield a more accurate number. However, a few articles, like ones featured on the Main Page, may be off).

Web tools, to replace the ones at tools:~alexz/pop, will become available over the next few weeks at toollabs:popularpages. All of the historical data (back to July 2009 for some projects) has been copied over. The tool to view historical data is currently partially available (assessment data and a few projects may not be available at the moment). The tool to add new projects to the bot's list is also available now (editing the configuration of current projects coming soon). Unlike the previous tool, all changes will be effective immediately. OAuth is used to authenticate users, allowing only regular users to make changes to prevent abuse. A visible history of configuration additions and changes is coming soon. Once tools become fully available, their toolserver versions will redirect to Labs.

CfD discussion for societies and cultures

There is a discussion going on right now at WP:Categories for discussion that involves changing the category names for all cultures, from, for example, "Afghan society" to "Society of Afghanistan". I can see that next will be changing "German culture" to "Culture of Germany" and the like. This would be for all ethnicities, nationalities and cultures.

Herero people, Mbanderu people and Ovaherero people

Note the last one isn't linked in the Mbanderu people article which says "The culture of the Ovambanderu people does not differ much from the one of the Ovaherero people." (For some reason the discussion in the article refers to the Mbanderu as Ovambanderu despite the title). Ovaherero people when linked is a redirect to Herero people which doesn't mention Ovaherero or the Mbanderu. I don't even want to think about Herero language. Canary Islands

The List of African Capitals includes the provincial capitals of the Canary Islands, two provinces of Spain. They are not a country but, again, a set of spanish islands since the XV century. These islands, like the Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Ibiza, etc also spanish), are well known as a prime tourist destination for millions of europeans (mostly) vacationers each year. Leaflet For Wikiproject Africa At Wikimania 2014

Hi all,

My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.

One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.

This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:

Country of Western nigeria

'New' page about Country of Western nigeria which apparently doesn't exist has been re-created. See also Special:Contributions/Africamr Just FYI. --220 of ^Borg 10:33, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

Now there's apparently a Western Niger, which is a redirect to Niger. This seems unnecessary, as western Niger is not really a defined place, and certainly has nothing to do with the fantasy that the redirect replaced (which is about states of southern Nigeria, over 500 miles from the Niger border).

Similarly, Western Nigeria (which contained more of the same fantasy) is now a redirect to Nigeria. No reason for this to exist either.

Also, Western niger area is a redirect to Niger Delta#Western (or Northern) Niger Delta, which is at least 500 miles away.

These all have User:Africamr in common.

According to http://cmsdata.iucn.org/downloads/ssc_op_045.pdf (a real whopper of a document), the meat is widely available in Cameroon, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It it available over a wider area - not least because elephants cover a wider range - but hardly a daily staple of the marketplace. Here is a photo in Gabon (obviously we can't use that one). Development of the term Africanization

This term is ready to take center stage with the contemporary movement of globalization. This term has not yet received proper recognition nor thorough analyzation for it's development in making a significant contribution to the formation of the world living as a global community. Some suggestions I have recommended on the page include reference to the term UBUNTU. Considering ones own definition and interpretation of 'ubuntu' when evolving Africanization into meaning which can be pertinent to globalization as a thriving and synergistic community of sustainability is paramount to directing forward momentum of globalzation when commercialism and consumerism threatens stagnancy of Ubuntu. Slavery in Mauritania

First of all this is my first time participating in a talk page so I hope this is the right place. Please feel free to instruct me on any errors of convention.

Slavery in Mauritania Under "Causes of persistence" says:

"Misinterpretation of Islam, based on early Islamic legal texts that justify slavery by slave owners and some Mauritanian imams, (Mauritania is approximately 100% Muslim).[2]"

Now the reference given is to New Yorker article on Biram Dah Abeid, an anti Islamic slavery advocate, and the "Misinterpretation of Islam" statement is attributed to his personal opinion. Yet this is clearly a widely disputed claim in the Muslim world, and it is directly disputed by both the Qur'an and the Hadiths where there are explicit and implicit allowances made for slavery. My problem with the line is that it portrays itself as a fact, when it is not even close. I don't object to leaving this part in, as long as it is made clear that this is a personal opinion, which is in dispute and contradicted by the Qur'an and the Hadith. I would be glad to write something up, or if someone with more experience in all things Wiki, would like to give it a shot, that is also fine.

My suggestion would be to find someone who is widely recognised as a reputable authority on what the Qur'an and the Hadith say, and what is meant by it about how 21st century people should live their lives. Then cite this person's, presumably conflicting, interpretation of this. Ideally, cite a reputable authority who discusses and summarises both viewpoints from a neutral distance.

I have only read the Koran in translation, while I've read some of the other Abrahamic holy texts (Jewish, Christian, etc) in the original, so I am not a subject matter expert in this. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 22:51, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

Errors in Guinea sub-prefectures

There os some problem with the sub-prefectures of Dalaba Prefecture: as indicated in the sources (for example this pdf file] and in the prefecture page, it's a part of Mamou Region, but many of the sub-prefectures articles indicate it as part of Faranah Region. My name is María, I am community Liaison for Learning and Evaluation team at Wikimedia Foundation. I reach out to you because I want to invite you to take part in a campaign we started some weeks ago, «Let's Talk Diversity». The aim of this campaign is to have users who have worked to bridge Wikimedia's diversity gaps contribute their learning stories. There are different ways to participate: by sharing a problem you faced when working, a solution, or write a Learning Pattern to address both a problem and a solution.
Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa, the way I see it, addresses some gaps on Wikipedia about Africa. What struggles did you face trying to bridge the gaps on Wikipedia about Africa? What did you learn from initial problems? This is the kind of experiences we are trying to bring forward with Let's Talk Diversity Campaign.

Mbanderu people

Hello everyone, I would like to make some modifications to the article about Mbanderu people. There are some phrases and sentences that seem, at least to me, to be unnecessary in an encyclopedia article. Also there are errors like using the term kgosi to describe Mbanderu leaders. That's Setswana not Otjiherero if I"m not mistaken. I don't want to offend the writer(s) who have put considerable time into this. But I would like to make some simplifications, deletions and when I have time, maybe some additions too. There are good academic references that should go in there, but I am working on something else right now. What you do fellow editors think?Alfhild-anthro (talk) 22:02, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

Yam (Vegetable)

There is a table on the Wikipedia page Yam (Vegetable) showing the differences between Yams and Sweet Potatoes. In the table there is a row indicating Yams (Dioscorea sp.) as dioecious and Sweet Potatoes(Ipomoea sp.) as monoecious.

However, three other sources (ITIS, NC Cooperative Extension, and the Library of Congress) all say the opposite; Yams (Dioscorea sp.) as being monoecious and Sweet Potatoes (Ipomoea sp.) as being dioecious.

This is the first time I have tried to "edit" Wiki info, so my apologies if this post is not how it is done. Just wishing to point out a discrepency and ask if this could be looked into, corrected if need be, and the results possibly forwarded to me, too? Thank you! Sierra Leone

Hi Wikipedia Group,

I went through your database of Islands in Africa with specific reference to Sierra Leone, I noticed that the list was not exhaustive; it did not include other major historic Islands like Tasso Island, Tiwai island, plantain Island and York Island.

Just as it was for Bunce Island, Tasso Island also used to be the transit depot for slaves ready to be conveyed to Europe, America and the Caribbeans. These two Islands(Tasso and Bunce)are at close proximity within the west coast of sierra Leone; They are approximately 30 nautical square miles from Freetown.

IslandAid Sierra Leone is an indigenous community based organisation at Tasso Island that is advocating for Islands conservation Biodiversity and sustainable livelihood.

Africa 24 English article

Hi!

While reading the article I noticed a misleading paragraph called "programming":

This is how it goes:

"Launched in 2009, Africa 24 is comparable with the United States-based news network CNN, Britain's BBC World News, France's France 24, the pan-European Euronews, Germany's Deutsche Welle, and Arab- and English- language news broadcaster Al Jazeera. The Africa 24 network also broadcasts some news programming over its Website. Some core programming broadcast by Africa24 includes Journal Télévisé (JT), the evening summary of the day's news; Talks, a politics- and economics-oriented programme that includes debates on current affairs topics; Sport, covering sports news across Africa; and Magazine, a cultural affairs programme."

It seems as there is the intent to link this appearently private news channel to public broadcasters or national news organizations around the globe. 20 Percent in the property of two states that have problems with corruption doesn't help in that assessment

If the author meant that they have a similar kind of programme its also missleading because then it would make no sense to compare the BBC with Al Jazeera etc...

For me its an article written by someone in this news organization. I don't think there is anything wrong with that as long it is not missleading. But linking this to public broadcasting is missleading.

Incorrect term: "Somalian" vs. "Somali"

There are a large number of categories and articles that are named with the incorrect demonym "Somalian" instead of the proper term "Somali." At least in the Somali diaspora, referring to people or things as "Somalian" may be perceived as a sign of racist ignorance on the part of (mostly) white people. DANGME NOT GaDANGME

There is nothing called Ga-Dangme. The entire ethnolinguistic group is simply Dangme. The Dangme people are: Klo, Se, Ga, Osudoku, Kpone, Gbugbla, Nugo, and Ada.

The Ga-Dangme description is a recent political construct championed by the Ga-Dangme Council which was mostly made up of some Ga elites.

use of discriminating/offensive/outdated qualificative

I read about a "soviet style visa system".... but the description that follows is exactly what many non-european tourist have to comply when they want to visit the Schengen zone. Suggestion: omit this kind of "colored" qualificative (could be replaced for example by the more neutral "outdated"), or , or use more up-to-date comparisons that appeal to the younger and others, who did not have the opportunity to visit the late Soviet Union - in this case it would be: "a Schengen-zone style visa system". 186.178.89.75 (talk) 16:03, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

Barotseland

I wonder if anyone can comment on the apparent bias problem in the Barotseland article. The article implies that the High Court of Zambia ruled that Zambia was illegally occupying Barotseland, something not supported by the sources cited, and seems to have been written from a pro-independence of Barotseland perspective. I have to admit that I had never heard of Barotseland until a couple of days ago, so I don't know a lot about this topic, but the article does seem to be somewhat problematic. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 02:45, 20 July 2015 (UTC)

'Kara' and 'Lama-Kara'

Lama-Kara is the full name for the town of Kara. All Kabiye localities are double-barrelled. The name 'Lama' refers to the canton, while 'Kara' refers to the village. Historically, the town was referred to by its full name (e.g. on old maps of Togo), but since the town has grown in size and importance (since the 1970s), the designation "Lama" has been dropped. For this reason, I propose that the "Lama-Kara" article be merged into the "Kara" article.

Usually this is done by putting one of the "Template:Merge" templates on the page and then discussing in the talk page (and bring it up in the relevant project as you have done). There is a bit more guidance on that template page.

Help with an article?

I recently had a post on my talk page asking for help finding sources and improving the article for OC_Osilliation. I've given some of the usual information about RS and SPS, but I know that it can frequently be difficult to find sourcing when it comes to African related topics since not all of the publications host their content online or have substantial archives. (I have similar issues with niche subjects and some of the older India-related topics.)

Can any of you help find sources? I'm not really familiar with African sources so I'm sort of not sure where to start looking. I'm not pulling up much in a search offhand and I'm not sure if sourcing like this would be considered reliable since it looks to be a blog. I do see some sources like this and this that suggests that there should be more coverage, though. I figure that the user (Icem4k) would greatly benefit from having some help from someone more familiar with African sources. I posted a message on the Moïse Katumbi Talk page earlier this week proposing a new draft of the article—the current one suffers from structural issues, sourcing problems, and could include more detail. Katumbi is a prominent businessman and political figure in the DRC, so I thought editors here might be interested in having a look.
