Please join us on Saturday, April 19, 2014 from 3–6pm for a Wikipedia Feminist Art Edit-a-thon, hosted by Ellen Lesperance and the Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) as part of the PORTLAND2014 Biennial's "The Saturday Series". The event will be held at the PNCA Fine Art Library, located at 1241 NW Johnson Street, and follows the ArtAndFeminism event held at Portland State University (and throughout the world) in February 2014.

Prior Wikipedia editing is not required; assistance will be available the day of the event. Attendees should bring their own laptops and power cords. RSVP by signing your username below.

Details

No Wikipedia editing experience necessary; as needed throughout the event, tutoring will be provided for Wikipedia newcomers. Female editors are particularly encouraged to attend. If you are unfamiliar with Wikipedia, you might try this training module which will help explain a lot of things, including how to add your signature. Attendees should bring their own laptops and power cords.

Ideas

The following is a sampling of suggested articles to create or add upon. However, feel free to come up with your own ideas! In addition to the suggestions below, editors may consider cleaning up articles on more well-known women artists. Helpful updates could be as simple as: making sure reference links are still appropriate and functional; adding new inline citations/references; adding a photo; adding an infobox; adding data to more fields in an existing infobox; creating headings; adding categories; etc. Editors may also choose to focus on women in design, performing arts, music, architecture, philosophy, politics, etc.

  • Here.it.comes.again (talk) 12:24, 1 March 2014 (UTC) I don't get out much but will be with you in spirit. On the last one, I earnestly wanted to edit, but when I went to start, I couldn't find any citable primary sources online. I would have been putting up my own personal reminiscences of Oregon women artists who I'd like to see better recognized, like Pearl Wright, Jeanne Moment and Connie Earnshaw, with no supporting citations. So, what I want to do is create and edit an irregular zine of original research, oral histories, etc., on Oregon women artists that can have a tiny print run and pdf but have all its articles available in cc licensed plain text on Pastebin, cc licensed images on Flickr, etc. I don't know how much of any of this I can do, but I figure the material will never make it to the encyclopedic if doesn't make it to original. Feed the beast!

~15 people (all female; one male, apart from me) attended. Like the first ArtAndFeminism event, participants were highly engaged, fast learners. One new user created three articles. WMF brochures and stickers were available to guests, who found the wiki markup cheat sheet helpful. Much thanks to Ellen L. for organizing and to PNCA and librarians for hosting.
