Dear UKexpat,

Thank you so much for getting back to me. Can you please advise what is missing from the lead section of the article now?

Thanks Anjumodgil (talk) 15:56, 26 April 2013 (UTC)

See my reply at the Help Desk - basically the whole article needs to be rewritten.--ukexpat (talk) 15:59, 26 April 2013 (UTC)
Dear Ukepat,
Sure. I will post the questions here.
Can you please help us to get the tags removed? What else do we need to do?

Speedy Deletion of Michael Spitzer

I noticed that you recently tagged an article, Michael Spitzer, for speedy deletion, and the article was deleted within 24 hours, under the pretense that it failed to meet importance standards under criteria A7 of Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion. However, I would point to the criteria itself, which states that "The criterion does not apply to any article that makes any credible claim of significance or importance even if the claim is not supported by a reliable source or does not qualify on Wikipedia's notability guidelines." Although I no longer have a copy of the article, I do believe it stated clearly that Michael Spitzer was the son of the famous WWII General, Douglas MacArthur and became famous for betraying his father's wishes and charting his own path in life. I believe this is a "credible claim of significance," meaning, if I am correct, you should have nominated the article for deletion rather than making the executive decision to axe the article by your own whim. I thus request that the article be restored until proper consensus can be reached. Thanks! --DrCruse (talk) 22:54, 2 May 2013 (UTC)

I didn't delete it as I am not at admin, I just tagged it for deletion. It was deleted by User:Alexf. You can request undeletion at WP:REFUND. And please assume good faith - rather than making the executive decision to axe the article by your own whim is certainly not that. --ukexpat (talk) 23:48, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
AN INDEPENDENT WRITES Oh yes it is! Because your Modus Operandi as a "bureaucratic fuck" is well known. However now that you've been caught out - (Arthur MacArthur IV aka Michael Spitzer is notable as the only son of MacArthur) - you're covering up the fact you were just as officious and lazy as ever. How long would it have taken you to do do a quick search? (But taggings have always been easier haven't they?). In response to the temerity of criticism to this high-handed oafish behaviour, you have the gall to throw in an ad hominem about assuming good faith. WOW, as the years go by, you've become even more pathetic and douche like. Why couldn't you have assumed good faith and taken the article at face value? Huh? If you had actually done a search, which you patently hadn't done, or neither had the admin User:Alexf (another one of Wales' self-indentured social inadequates), user:DrCruse would not have felt that their efforts were rewarded with a kick in the teeth. But then again you don't know what that feels like seeing as you don't write articles do you? The buzz for you has always been to meddle and pontificate the rules! People like you make me sick, but then again people like you make Jimbo rich! 86.181.166.155 (talk) 09:51, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

Penn Vista Lake

I am part of the family that personally owns this lake and I posted the corrections to this posting on behalf of the owners of the lake.

The family would like this posting to be revised immediately.

I will take a look at it. Do you have a reliable source for your changes?--ukexpat (talk) 16:17, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
Yes I have a reliable source for the changes I am the daughter of one of the current owners. I just spoke with the owners of the lake my self. They wish this posting to remain as is. There are unknown posters who are posting this as public lake but it is not. There are trespassing signs around the lake. My grandfather personally built this lake. So I am one of the most accurate sources for this posting. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SchulerSwanie (talkcontribs) 16:21, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
Also are you an volunteer of Wikipedia what are your credentials for editing this page? The family would like to verify that the lake does not get posted as public again please. --SchulerSwanie (talk) 16:24, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
Yes, all of Wikipedia's editors are volunteers. Word of mouth is not a reliable source for Wikipedia purposes. Do you have a source that meets the requirements of WP:RS? If so, that will prevent the edits being reverted again. Or we could just nominate the article for deletion. Thanks.--ukexpat (talk) 16:27, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) I did a search for sources, but found none at all. I know we are pretty lax about notability of physical locations, but shouldn't we just AfD it? If there are not even enough sources to verify if it is a private or public lake... CorporateM (Talk) 15:12, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

change to ISDA page

I made minor as I believe change to ISDA page.

I removed from History section following 2 sentences:

Mark C. Brickell was the President of the International Swaps and Derivatives Association from 1988-1992. He helped defeat US Congressional efforts to regulate derivatives in 1994 and again in 1998.

The reason is that Mark was not with the company in 1994 and 1998 ( he left as mentioned in 1992) so the second sentence does not apply to ISDA and probably belong to Mark own page.

Please, help and approve.

User talk:Rrvishewar

You requested deletion per OTRS ticket 2013051310007613, and I have blanked it, but per WP:DELTALK the history of talk pages is normally retained, unless the user invokes WP:Courtesy vanishing. This seems a fairly routine case of a blocked spammer: is there any particular reason to make an exception? JohnCD (talk) 16:50, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

I think it's OK as it is. The user was complaining about others editing the talk page "to his disadvantage", but unless there was anything there that violated BLP, I think it's OK. I will respond to the user at OTRS accordingly. Thanks.--ukexpat (talk) 16:59, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
The edits on his talk page were just spam/COI warnings and finally a block notice - you can see them in the history. JohnCD (talk) 17:14, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

Re: File:Michael Gambon.jpg

Yes, the reason is obvious, but that's true of most images that are tagged as non-free replaceable. We know the image is copyrighted - the uploader says as much when they tag non-free - but we do have that 48 hour wait on this particular speedy criterion. In short, G12/F9 doesn't apply when there's a claim of applying WP:NFCC, even if it's a spurious claim. (ESkog)(Talk) 20:18, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

Arrest of Daniele Perazzi

Hi UKExpat

What was the problem with the added section about the arrest of Daniele Perazzi? I included a verifiable source, the POV was quite neutral, it was not "original research" in any way shape or form, and it is newsworthy and accurate.

FWIW, I'm not merely sympathetic to Perazzi, I'm outraged at the Denver police's actions. Fine, the cab driver was a retard, but the fascist pigs should have figured out that it was stupid to arrest the executive of an Italian shotgun manufacturer bringing half a million dollars in custom shotguns to a gun show.

Also, what is "OTRS"?

60.248.2.163 (talk) 04:15, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

OTRS is the Foundation's e-mail response system, where I am a volunteer. I removed it because it is irrelevant in an article about the company, undue weight etc.--ukexpat (talk) 12:53, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

If the video is copyrighted then no, you cannot upload it, unless you can make a case that it meets the non-free content criteria.--ukexpat (talk) 18:10, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
Sorry for the question but; how can I know if the video is copyrighted?? Miss Bono (zootalk) 18:12, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
My guess is that if it is a video of the band or a music video accompanying a CD, it is almost certainly copyrighted. What is the video and where did you find it?--ukexpat (talk) 18:14, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
The video is Mysterious Ways. i think my aunt bought it and uploaded to my iPod when she bought the iPod. Miss Bono (zootalk) 18:32, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

Well, I'll do that. Please check my steps just in case I mess something up ;) Can you?? Thanks Miss Bono (zootalk) 19:33, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

Done. Miss Bono (zootalk) 20:09, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
OK now I am a little confused. File:IPod U2.jpeg looks like a picture of your iPod, not a videocap. The material on the iPod's screen is so hard to make out that it probably isn't a copyright violation. So, I don't think it is an NFCC situation -- you can tag this as "own work" and with one of the licenses appropriate for Commons, and it can be moved there. I don't have the time to do it right now, but I will add empty templates to the image info page.--ukexpat (talk) 20:17, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

Pic question

Hello U. I saw you removal of the pic that was added to the Elizabeth Moss article by the SPA account that seems to be the person who took the pic. I am wondering if this pic [1] has the same problems. If not then no problems and thanks for taking the time to check on this. MarnetteD | Talk 18:38, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

That one isn't quite so easy. The Elizabeth Moss image had a clear Getty Images copyright notice in the metadata, so even if the uploader was the photographer, he doesn't own the copyright and cannot license it appropriately. I'll dig some more one the Brie image. Hope this helps!--ukexpat (talk) 18:46, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
It sure does and, again, I appreciated your time and efforts in this and so many other areas here at WikiP. Cheers and happy editing - whenever possible. MarnetteD | Talk 18:49, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

Submission for Handyman Matters

HI Ukexpat,

I submitted an article for Handyman Matters Franchising Company on April 9, 2013. In looking for an update, I believe you responded, but I cannot for the life of me find it. I just wanted to check to see what the review status was. I did receive a "submission is waiting to be reviewed" message upon submission, but you indicated there are no submissions from me. Is it possible to discover where the entry ended up? Or if needed, can you tell me how to submit it again so that it doesn't end up lost?

Thanks a lot, Ben WaymireBenWaymire (talk) 19:11, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

Ben,
You found the right place to contact Ukexpat! He will respond when he reads the message. I dream of horses If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page. @ 19:49, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
(talk page stalker)From what account did you submit your article? This BenWaymire account has only ever made only two edits, this one and a question to the Help Desk on 7 May when you were asked the same question but did not reply. Doing a text search of Wikipedia, I don't find anything that might be your draft. If it has disappeared, the best way to make one is to click on Help:Userspace draft and fill in the title there; that will make a draft page for you with a link to useful advice and a "Submit" button to use when it is ready. Before you start, read WP:Your first article and the WP:FAQ/Organizations and, if you are connected with the business, the WP:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 20:05, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
I just checked all my edits from April 9 and none of them relate to Handyman Matters Franchising Company or anything similar. If you are referring to a reply from OTRS to an e-mail that you sent, please let me know the ticket number and I will take a look at it.--ukexpat (talk) 00:34, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions

We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:

Views/Day
Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
Quality
Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.

The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:

Content
Is more content needed?
Headings
Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
Images
Is the number of illustrative images about right?
Links
Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
Sources
For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?

SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly, your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping!

Welcome thanks

You're welcome. It makes me proud to help out with bits and pieces to make pages a little better. I have a question if you don't me asking. Does wikipedia make some people say things like that, or were you just thanking me? mike1291 18:43, 29 May 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mike1291 (talkcontribs)

Wikipedia doesn't make anyone say anything. I saw that you hadn't been welcomed so I did so!--ukexpat (talk) 18:46, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

Suggestion

Hello again. I saw your post here [3]. My experience is that response time at that message board can be slow so I wanted to suggest that you make the same post at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Editors there are usually right on top of things picture-wise and I think the problem that you are dealing with will be taken care of ASAP. Cheers. MarnetteD | Talk 14:36, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

It's not really a copyright problem though, more like mistaken identity.--ukexpat (talk) 14:40, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
You are right and my memory is faulty (maybe Basil Fawlty.) A couple months ago we had the same picture of a person from the 1800's Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Biography#photo.3F Jack Whicher or William Saville-Kent) being used in two different articles. I moved it from the Wikiproject Biography page (which also has a slow response time) to the help desk [4] and things got fixed within a day. So you might want to try there instead. Apologies for the mixup. MarnetteD | Talk 14:52, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Gender selection

Gender selection is an in office procedure for men. They manipulate or remove the x or y chromosome from a man. The x or y chromosome from men is what determines gender. Gena medici etherton 16:22, 30 May 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gena medici etherton (talkcontribs)

New users

Hello, i was wondering if you could help me on this: Is there any way where one can see users that recently had set up accounts in Wikipedia? Miss Bono (zootalk) 19:13, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

Take a look at the user creation log.--ukexpat (talk) 19:43, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

What about if I want to see the contributions or how many times an IP has edited? Miss Bono (zootalk) 20:21, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
The easiest way to do that is to install the Navigation Popups gadget (Preferences --> Gadgets). Then when you hover your mouse pointer over user name, it will show you the date the user account was created and the number of edits it has made, along with other options.--ukexpat (talk) 20:26, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

Publishers Clearing House

Hi Ubexpat. I don't know if you were going to look at the PCH article as well, but I wanted to let you know I pinged Dennis Brown and he said he would take a look at it tomorrow. Because the article has a history of misbehavior, some defensiveness is expected and reasonable. I would prefer to get impartial editors involved than find myself arguing about the content personally. However, you're still welcome to chime in.

Cheers. CorporateM (Talk) 19:45, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

Follow-Up

Thanks Mike for your insight.

I didn't write my own wiki page and I fully understand the purpose and function of Wikipedia. The link I provided to my deleted page indicates that my page was created by other wiki users.

With that in mind, how should I proceed?

The deletion was made on a statement that is bias and inaccurate. The person who deleted the page has a great knowledge of music, but specifically not the kind that I write. He even attests to this on his personal wiki page! It's like having a Classical musicologist weigh in on heavy metal. So I question the validity of his subjective reason for its deletion. A google search of my name can establish credibility through the accolades and achievements I've been blessed to attain in my career. Of course there were a handful of credible journal entries, billboard links and so on attached to the wiki page on me.

Thanks for your help -

Orphaned non-free media (File:Agecroftlogo.png)

Thanks for uploading File:Agecroftlogo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:24, 4 June 2013 (UTC)

You're welcome. For my money, Wikipedia's most important work goes on behind the scenes via dedicated editors adding to and keeping an eye on relatively low-view-count articles, and so it's always good to have it acknowledged. If I gave you even a small boost, I am glad. Keep it up. LudicrousTripe (talk) 21:34, 6 June 2013 (UTC)

I am sorry but that it not an acceptable source - it is a primary source, just like a search of the UK birth and death records which show 1977, so until we have a reliable secondary source to confirm 1979, it will have to stay as it is.--ukexpat (talk) 18:57, 10 June 2013 (UTC)

Hello

Thank you for the warm welcome. I have some questions about an article referring to the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69). I'm a former crewmember and noticed several passages have been tagged 'citation needed.' What is needed for those passages to be corrected and what information would be considered as valid for that purpose? Any assistance you can provide would be a great help. Thank you for your time. page deletion

why would you want to delete the page Bond, Schoeneck & King? I've looked at other law firm pages and we seem to be following their steps. If something is incorrect, instead of deleting a page, why not let the author know what needs to be fixed?Kmpurdy (talk) 17:00, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

It needs to be deleted because the firm is not notable and because it is an advertisement masquerading as an article. You also clearly have a conflict of interest so please read WP:COI.--ukexpat (talk) 17:29, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
This firm is one of the oldest and largest law firms in Upstate New York. I do not believe there is anything that would mislead a reader to believe this is an advertisement. It states facts about the firm and its attorneys. Kmpurdy (talk) 18:11, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
Make your points at the deletion discussion. Being "one of the oldest" does not make it notable, neither does some of its lawyers winning non-notable industry awards. It's yet another non-notable law firm.--ukexpat (talk) 18:21, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

Talk:Tea Party movement/Moderated discussion

A few more voices experienced in NPOV editing would be useful at the Tea Party movement moderated discussion. I appreciate it's a big ask, and no worries if you find you haven't the time or inclination, but your name has been put forward as someone with sound opinion. The article has made great progress over the past month, and is heading in the right direction - though there is still some work to do, and there is an ArbCom case (Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Tea Party movement) held in suspension over this article, and the Committee will be reconvening at the end of the month to decide what to do.
