Be my guest. The definition is rarely stated by geologists anyway. It was pointed out to me online that a full-fledged plate is one which includes oceanic crust emerging from a seafloor spreading rift at its growing edge. An incipient spreading center is one in which continental crust is being rifted antecedent to oceanic crust being formed. No particular citeable source near at hand for me to reference, but I expect someone else may eventually come up with one. Tmangray (talk) 20:54, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Monsoon trough and ITCZ

Were you thinking monsoon trough was a more generalized term (parent article) to ITCZ, or the other way around? Your comments on the monsoon trough talk page gave me the impression it was the other way around. Either way, some piece of literature must be found to indicate they are not one and the same. Their definitions through the glossary of meteorology seem different, but inherently explain the same feature. Definitely let me know if you ever run across a paper that separates the two terms. Colorado River/Monterey Canyon

Hi - I've removed a bit about the Colorado River course and Monterey Canyon (see: Talk:Colorado River#Section removed for discussion. Seems it was sourced to an abstract of a master's thesis from 1982, and that doesn't really qualify as a reliable source. After a bit of looking at article history, I found that you added the material on 14 November 2007. The info is interesting, but I've not found a good source for it - so thought I'd ask if you perhaps know of more info about it. Tmangray, would it be possible for you to improve the references section on the ALICE article? Of the three refs you've provided, two of them are news stories that don't back up all of the claims you've made in the article, and the third one, a PDF, only links to the first page of the paper. Is it possible to access the rest of the paper online? That would be very helpful. Also, to back up what Horses said, while I can agree she jumped the gun a little bit, you can avoid having such things happen in the future by having referenced statements on the article at the very time it goes live. -- Soap ^Talk/_{Contributions} 18:40, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

Key System to IER track connection on Shattuck Ave.

You mention a map showing the connection between Ward & Derby. This is problematical because the SP operated a freight yard at Ward St. until 1950 or so. To access it the train had to go past Ward St. and then back into the yard, so it needed some track along Shattuck Ave. Demoro vol. I locates the crossover at Dwight Way. You mention a photo of the track connection. Does it appear in a publication?

Tense in lead of Blue Monday Jamboree

This is a note to explain why I reverted your change of is to was in Blue Monday Jamboree.

When I began creating articles about old-time radio programs, I used was in the leads. At some point, however, I found some of the articles being corrected to present tense. When I questioned those changes, I was directed to the Tense section of Wikipedia's Manual of Style, which gives the example Earth: Final Conflict is a Canadian science fiction television series that ran for five seasons between October 6, 1997 and May 20, 2002.

If you want to change back to past tense, I won't interfere again, but I wanted you to know that I had a reason for reverting your change; it wasn't just a whim. Eddie Blick (talk) 01:46, 16 April 2018 (UTC)

Julius Edgar Lilienfeld

I'm not sure what your edit was meant to accomplish. The grammar was wrong, and Lillienfeld was not a German national, he was from Austria-Hungary - specifically, from the german ethnic subpopulation of A-H. Tarl N. (discuss) 05:25, 27 December 2018 (UTC)

I'm confused about referring to Lilienfeld as "ethnic German" when he was an ethnic Jew. I thought the original wording was confusing nationality with ethnicity. Adding to the confusion is the sidebar reference which gives his nationality as "German", so I was attempting to make what I thought was a correction of the text to correspond with the sidebar. Austria-Hungary was a mess of ethnicities. Generally, they were tagged by the language they spoke (German, Hungarian, Serbian, ...). Being tagged as both German and Jewish (which separately described language and religion) was not uncommon. Tarl N. (discuss) 01:01, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

Secondary comment. Digging out his biography, it mentions his father was "a Jewish lawyer", does not say that Lilienfeld was Jewish (and he might not have been, depending on whether his mother, Sarah Jamoler Lilienfeld, was). He was born in what is now Lviv, Ukraine. His own ethnicity isn't mentioned at all (at least in American National Biography), but his history from 1899 demonstrates his facility in German - Universities in Berlin and Leipzig. Ethnicity is not determined by language, although language can be a feature of a shared culture in a population that is primarily endogamous. Nationality is about citizenship. I see nothing about Lilienfeld's parentage to indicate that he was German at all. We do know that he was at least half Jewish in the ethnic sense, and he married a Jewish woman. He was born in the Jewish community of Ukraine. Whether he was a religiously observant Jew, I have no idea, but the information I see definitely connects him to the Jewish community by ancestry and marriage. It would be remarkable and probably mentioned specifically if his immediate ancestors/either parent were non-Jewish (ethnic sense) converts to Judaism (the religion). As best I can tell the link is dead, the search function on trumanlibrary.gov for Rickard gives no results, and the URL is not in the webarchive.
