Warning notice

Hi. I noticed you left a No Personal Attacks warning on my talk page. I'm not claiming it's not a personal attack, but I do have a problem, because the complaining editor User:Theserialcomma has been engaged in long term incivility towards me. I posted a few different ANI threads a couple months back, and got no response.

If I were to provide you with a few diffs detailing my unpleasant treatment from TSC, would you read them and if necessary inform him that his behavior is inappropriate? McJeff (talk) 23:17, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Sure. Stifle (talk) 08:17, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
Would this be considered a personal attack? McJeff (talk) 19:45, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
It's not particularly pleasant; if it was a bit more recent I might be inclined to leave him a {{uw-npa}}. It's far enough back now that it would be just dragging up old issues. Stifle (talk) 19:50, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

More salting

Thanks for salting Oxford Martial Arts Academy. Could you please do the same job on Joe Hollywood, Joe hollywood, Joe Newport, and Joe newport. The creator removes delete tags as fast as I apply them! You might care to block some of the socks - but what's the point - they will just create new accounts. - Sgroupace (talk) 05:00, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Joe hollywood was already salted; I've done the other three. Stifle (talk) 08:16, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Do you take translation requests?

Alison has been very busy; as a result, an article of mine that she was going to translate has not materialized on ga apart from a little stub. I was wondering if you would like to translate Doireann Ní Bhriain to ga. Please let me know! Mike H. Fierce! 06:03, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm not in the habit of doing so, but I'll take a look at this later on. Stifle (talk) 08:18, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
Later on has apparently become "now", but my Irish isn't as active as I'd like so it's going slowly. Stifle (talk) 08:34, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
This seems like a slightly good idea. I've opened a translation queue in case there are any other articles to do. Stifle (talk) 10:36, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
This is now   Done. Stifle (talk) 15:18, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Erin Go Bragh-less. :P That deserves a rimshot. :D Thank you for translating so quickly, Stifle! Mike H. Fierce! 06:03, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

3RR deliberation

Surely the point of the 3RR is to avoid edit wars; so if an editor is reverting the same edit on a daily basis, on consecutive days, it is in violation of the spirit of 3RR, and an example of gaming the system? Cripipper (talk) 12:33, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

I don't think that applies here. On the other hand I'm willing to protect the page for a week or two if you want to ensure that the discussion is brought to talk. Stifle (talk) 12:35, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
YellowMonkey reverts my cited and referenced edits every day on four successive days, and refuses to engage in a discussion on the talk pages. The least I would expect is to have some support from admins on this, but instead I get branded vexatious or frivolous. No cabal, huh? Cripipper (talk) 12:40, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
Well, you asked for a 3RR block but he hasn't broken the 3RR. He contributed to the talk page discussion somewhat, and he is an arbitrator; they have a lot on their plates. I've protected the page for a week; that should help. Stifle (talk) 12:49, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Yu-Gi-Oh

Yeah, I figured; I saw one of those a while ago. Anyway, if the problem becomes chronic, just tell me and I could extend the protection indefinitely. Keep up the good work! Master of Puppets Call me MoP! :) 12:55, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Or I'll do it myself ;) Stifle (talk) 15:28, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

EXCUSE ME.

Excuse me, but you delete DJ Warrior? Properly referenced, 100% official, met all notability, was thoroughly discussed, and you delete my hard work? WHY, when there is many many wikipedia entries that have NO references, and I can't find a SINGLE thing/article/info about them on google. GO delete those, adhering to wikipedias policies. DO ONE GOOGLE ON DJ WARRIOR, and you can see why this man is a legendary worldwide DJ, and I included all the official sources. The above discussion is preserved as an archive of the debate. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the article's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this page.

YOU LEAVE ABSOLUTELY NO REASON THAT YOU DELETED IT, ONLY THAT IT WAS ORIGINALLY TAGGED FOR DELETION, BUT I REFERENCED, IT WAS RE-WRITTEN, IT WAS OFFICIAL, DIDN'T YOU EVEN LOOK AT THE PAGE BEFORE YOU DELETED IT? JUST BECAUSE IT WAS UNDER DELETION? IT TOLD ME NOT TO REMOVE THE TAG, AND I DIDN'T, SO I AM ADHERING TO WIKIPEDIAS POLICIES, BUT YOU GO AHEAD AND DELETE THE ENTRY WITHOUT EVEN NOTICING THAT IT IS OFFICIAL. PLEASE, PUT THIS BACK UP. RIGHT NOW, OR GO DELETE EVERY OTHER DJ, AND EVERY OTHER PAGE AND ENTRY ON WIKIPEDIA THAT CONTAINS DJ WARRIORS NAME, WHICH IS 100'S.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Impact Pro Wrestling

Hey mate. Listen I had a page called Impact Pro Wrestling tagged (And recently deleted) This pages was created to the specifiactions under orders from Impact Pro Wrestling. However I've been cited about three times for copyright infringements. I've been given clearence by my bosses at Impact Pro Wrestling to use all infomation given. However it has been seen that you have deleted the page. The page that was deleted by you was credited infomation, however it takes me hours on end to get the stuff compiled and posted only for it to be deleted.

Talk to me about it and we can sort something out.

11 day old message? Seriously?

You dropped by to leave me a note about an 11 day old message? I know we had a minor run-in over what I and others considered to be a slightly over-the-top use of power a number of months ago, but really ... an 11 day old message? DJ Warrior..

I was in a fight with a user at the time, and I wasn't understanding the policies of how to reference and included external links that were not being excepted, and I was being told that I was violating a copyright somehow, which was untrue, but not knowing what to do I made a false comment stating that I am a partner so it is not a copyright issue. I am just a normal user, die-hard fan trying to give a legend that graced the entire hip hop industry his own place on Wikipedia.. Is that too much to ask for? Thanks,

The responses to your previous messages don't change — deletion review is third door on the right. Stifle (talk) 14:10, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
What do responses have to do with anything? the page has been put back up to generate proper discussion and so far it is all keep votes because this is 100% official, don't be a straight up asshole Stifle, just take 2 seconds to review the credibility, not consensus, that would show your level of professionalism and experience on this site. Don't abuse that power, it would be unethical in the original vision of Wikipedia set out by Jimmy Wales.
Thanks.

I apologize if you took that as a personal attack, that is not my intention at all. I believe that this situation on this article should be reviewed properly, and professionally, and not consensus over credibility as we updated the article to meet Wikipedias policies of notability. I am begging you to return my entry to the main space, as it is notable and widely referenced. What is the big deal?
Thanks,

Reconsidering WTFPL 2nd AfD

Would you please reconsider the 2nd AfD nomination of WTFPL? I have been discussing this article with its editors, and I believe they have not satisfactorily met the notability criteria. In fact, they believe the nobility criteria does not apply in this case, because "common sense" suggests the article is notable. I would like to nominate the article for deletion again because I believe the most recent AfD discussion was not conducted in good faith: the keep arguments relied primarily on WP:GOOGLEHITS, WP:PERNOM, and WP:VAGUEWAVE. Most importantly, the editors have failed to produce a single reliable secondary source to establish notability since the first time this article was nominated for deletion over 20 months ago. Thank you. --Beefyt (talk) 18:21, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

RE: Report

Hello - this is regarding the "casual" editing of a naming policy - whithout any agreement, discussion or any prior mention.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrator_intervention_against_vandalism User:Pmanderson (→User-reported: rm Pmanderson, not vandalism, discuss the matter on the talk page) about change: [1]

Please revert this unauthorized change. And if the user still insists on making changes - he must address the issue first.

Interestingly - this happened when the SAME user was having a discussion here Talk:Kiev/naming So I guess just discussing wasn't enough and made a decision to just change the policy.

Is this acceptable here? Vvolodymyr (talk) 21:15, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

While I'm happy to answer questions, it looks like your question could have been answered and resolved more quickly if you had used my message wizard. It's linked as "Talk" after my name and at the top of my talk page. Why not try it next time?
I didn't say that the user's actions were OK, just that they were not blockable vandalism. Please revert yourself and/or discuss the issue on the talk page. If necessary, get a third opinion or use dispute resolution. Stifle (talk) 21:17, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
OK - sorry about the messenger. Thanks - but the change was done to a protected page - so he must be some sort of administrator. But the change he made was not under discussion. and it was an established policy. Before anything it should be reverted - but I have no power to do it. Then - he can start a discussion etc. It's only fair and reasonable.
Again - how do I report this misuse of power - when an administrator having a discussion - simply changes the policy which tips the topic to his opinion.... You know what I mean. How can I talk and discuss with such person - following all the conventions and rules etc. - while he just wings it anyhow he likes. That just makes him do whatever.
So how do I ask/report/anything for some sort of intervention? Vvolodymyr (talk) 21:30, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Naming conventions is move-protected, which means that it can't be moved (renamed) except by an administrator, but it's still open to edit by anyone. You are therefore free to revert it and you are free in either case to open a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions.
Pmanderson isn't an administrator. If you feel that he has misbehaved you can make a listing at WP:ANI. (But he hasn't, just so you know.)
I am just about to go offline so there is no point in replying further to me, unless you don't mind waiting 11 hours for your reply. Stifle (talk) 21:34, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
Wow. Thanks. But it still prevents me from reverting. But how can we just all change rules like that? this is wrong. Vvolodymyr (talk) 21:36, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
Wikipedia works on the principle of being bold in editing — it's fine, and even recommended, to edit most pages and policies.
There is nothing stopping you, me, or any other user from reverting that page. You can't use the undo link because of subsequent edits, but to revert back to before he edited the page, just view the history, click the version below the one he edited (which is this one), click edit, enter an appropriate edit summary (like "reverting, please discuss on talk"), and click save page. Stifle (talk)
Thank you very much. I reverted. But I naturally prefer order. It's all too chaotic. And the rules still somehow prevent me from achieving simple things.... :(. Thank You again though Vvolodymyr (talk) 21:47, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Deletion review

Re: you notes about discussing the matter with the deleting admin first. I think if the "Before listing a review request" box information were moved into Wikipedia:DRV#Steps_to_list_a_new_deletion_review as item #1 (and renumber the steps as 2, 3, 4, etc.), people would follow it more often. In fact, a subst template should be made for this very purpose to make it easy to make such a request. -- Suntag 00:14, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

RE:Religious violence in Orissa

Ok, um your an admin, right? So you know indefinite doesn't equal infinite, right? If so, then you know it is perfectly reasonable to not set an expiration time for content dispute protections, which then really forces the users to use the talk page, and then the page can be unprotected when the dispute has been resolved. By all means, if the dispute is over, then unprotect the dang article. That's your job, but please do not come to my talk page with hyperbole's of how wrong I was with my protection time and threatening to circumvent my protection time just because you feel I was wrong. Image status questions

This image appears to be past its expiration date. I think all images from User:Mmmovie are in the same situation with regard to their "public domain" but copyrighted claims, but only some of them are obviously copyright violations, and not of all of those are being used in articles. I don't think I will ever understand image permissions on Wikipedia. Can you take a look? Thanks. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 18:27, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

I've deleted that one. I don't have time to go through the other ones right now.
The main available solutions for image problems are:
  • If it's a copyvio from a known website, {{db-i9|url=http://somesite.com/image.jpg}}
  • If there is no source, {{subst:nsd}}
  • If there is a source but no license, {{subst:nld}}
  • If there is a "by permission" or a non-commercial license, {{db-i3}}
  • If there is a free license tag but it seems likely that the given source has not released the image under that license, {{subst:npd}}
  • If there is a free license tag that is otherwise implausible, {{PUI}}
  • If there is a non-free license tag and no rationale, {{subst:nrd}}
  • If there is a non-free license tag and a rationale but the image is replaceable, {{subst:rfu}}
  • If there is a non-free license tag and a rationale, but the rationale is insufficient or does not comply with WP:NFURG, {{subst:dfu|reason}}
I think that covers everything. Good luck :) Stifle (talk) 18:49, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

You blocked me, now can you do me a favor?

I accidently used a different account to revert Crishomingtang, because we are now arguing about template conversions.

However, it's going to look like I'm using a sock puppet, when I just forgot which account I was using. So if you could roll back this change for me http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Yao_Ming&diff=241273381&oldid=241268379 I'd be grateful.

I don't want to run afoul of the 3R rule again, but I'm not trying to evade it with sock puppets. I use different accounts for short periods of time because I like to find people POV pushing, and then make the pages verifiable and reliable - so obviously make enemies.

It looks like you missed the section in my message wizard which answers your question. Rather than choosing "other deletions" on the wizard page, you should have gone to the section "Articles for deletion", which reads:
If the deletion reason includes "Articles for deletion", "AFD", (or something else "for deletion"), it will link to a discussion where a consensus was formed to keep or delete an article. In such cases, I have not taken the decision to delete the article, the community has. If you think I have not followed the deletion process correctly, please go to Wikipedia:Deletion review and follow the instructions. Do not make a request on my talk page as I am only implementing the community's will.
Additionally, as users have chosen to repeatedly recreate the page rather than following the correct process to appeal the deletion, the page has now been locked to prevent recreation. Stifle (talk) 22:20, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi,
That's strange, I do have an account, also when I created the deleted page. Ah, oops, I do forgot to confirm... should be ok now. (RHerma is my username). 08:03, 30 September 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by RHerma (talkcontribs)

History undelete

Hi Stifle. Would you please undelete the history of List of big-bust models and performers so that it may be better reviewed at DRV. Thanks. -- Suntag 15:59, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

It took nearly five minutes to run the deletion request earlier because there are so many revisions. I am not in a position to do it at the moment; I'm sure another admin will see the DRV request and do the history restore if they feel it's warranted. Stifle (talk) 16:13, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Barnstar

Thanks for the barnstar. It's nice to have a nice clean PUI again, while it lasts anyway... A question, why do you prefer the PUI tag at the bottom at MediaWiki:Filedelete-reason-dropdown? For me it is easier to scroll a little bit down than to scroll totally down at the bottom where it is now. Garion96 (talk) 19:00, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

I use the keyboard more so I just click the dropdown, hit End or PgDn, and click Delete. Stifle (talk) 19:07, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
That was too obvious to make me think of that. :) It still fits better with the other image reasons, but this probably does work better indeed. Garion96 (talk) 19:40, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Pokemon image deletion

Hey man, I noticed you deleted Image:150pokemon.PNG which I listed at PUI, any chance of you deleting another blatant copyvio from the same user? It's over here. Thanks again,  Asenine  22:58, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Terminology of KO One

My question doesn't seem to fit any of the subpages for deleted pages, so here goes... I perhaps didn't make it clear enough in my nomination, but this AfD was for two pages, the one you deleted and Terminology of The X-Family. The latter has not been deleted (or kept). As nominator, I can hardly delete it, even though I suppose the same result is applicable as for the other page. Thanks! Fram (talk) 12:09, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Gone. In future, you can tag this as {{db-afd}}. Stifle (talk) 12:54, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
