Incubator Cleanup edit
Hello, Josh.
I am an administrator on Wikimedia Incubator, and I'm trying to clean up some old tests. In particular, there are still remnants of those Babayin tests sitting there at incubator:Wp/tgl, incubator:Wt/tgl, and incubator:Wq/tgl. As far as I can tell, the two people who actually contributed to those tests are both pretty scarce these days, so you seem to me to be the best person to consult about this.
In theory, projects rejected by the Language Committee can remain open on Incubator, can be improved, and can be submitted again. In practice, (a) these projects have not been edited in a meaningful way in several years, and (b) the impression I have from the discussions at Meta are that these will no way, no how, ever be approved. So under those circumstances, we would normally delete the projects on Incubator.
There are a couple of options here:
- The normal practice when truly deleting a project is to archive it to an XML file in case anyone wants it in the future, or wants to transfer it to Incubator Plus or some other non-Wikimedia wiki. We can certainly do that.
- In truth, the Wikiquote test project has only a Main Page and an administrative template. The Wiktionary test project has a Main Page, an administrative template, and one other page ("Imeldific"). The Wikipedia test project does have a handful of pages.
- What you could do—what I might have suggested at the time—is to create a new namespace within the Tagalog projects solely for pages in Babayin. This way, those pages could be allowed to exist semi-autonomously while not interfering with the rest of content of the projects.
So I wonder if you can tell me how you might like to handle this situation. There's no particular rush, and in particular I'm sure that if you actually want to create a new namespace, some community discussion will be needed. - Hi back at you, and welcome back. Know that I don't have a skin in the game here. If the "amicable solution" is that you don't want it, I personally won't lose sleep over it. Yet while there is clearly no cause for separate Babayin projects here, it might be quite reasonable to incorporate them into the tl projects. I present as an example for you a page from Judeo-Spanish (Ladino) Wikipedia here. These days, Judeo-Spanish is usually written in Latin alphabet, but it was traditionally written in Hebrew script, and we have content of both types at ladwiki. On that page, you can see the approach we've used for incorporating both scripts. (A built-in converter like is used at Kazakh or Serbo-Croatian is just not viable for us.) I could see something like we use at ladwiki, and/or use of a separate namespace, as a viable option for Babayin (as opposed to just dumping it).
- Separately, when we're finished with this, I'd also like to discuss the fil test projects with you. incubator:Wp/fil is the only one with any meaningful content, but Langcom seems to lean toward the view that these should be folded into tl projects. So I'll probably want you (or a group of tl contributors) to see if there is anything worth keeping there, or alternatively whether you think there is a case to make for keeping separate projects. Guideline and policy news
- A discussion to workshop proposals to amend the administrator inactivity policy at Wikipedia talk:Administrators has been in process since late December 2016.
- Wikipedia:Pending changes/Request for Comment 2016 closed with no consensus for implementing Pending changes level 2 with new criteria for use.
- Following an RfC, an activity requirement is now in place for bots and bot operators.
Technical news
- When performing some administrative actions the reason field briefly gave suggestions as text was typed. This change has since been reverted so that issues with the implementation can be addressed. (T34950)
- Following the latest RfC concluding that Pending Changes 2 should not be used on the English Wikipedia, an RfC closed with consensus to remove the options for using it from the page protection interface, a change which has now been made. (T156448)
- The Foundation has announced a new community health initiative to combat harassment. This should bring numerous improvements to tools for admins and CheckUsers in 2017.

- The Arbitration Committee released a response to the Wikimedia Foundation's statement on paid editing and outing.
Obituaries
- JohnCD (John Cameron Deas) passed away on 30 December 2016. John began editing Wikipedia seriously during 2007 and became an administrator in November 2009.

ArbCom 2017 election voter message edit
Hello, Sky Harbor. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Sky Harbor, we really need to hear back from you on this DYK nomination; it's been well over a month since your last post. In particular, you still haven't provided a quid pro quo review as required for someone who has as many DYK credits as you do, and the nomination cannot be approved without it, though it appears otherwise ready to run. On 28 December 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Nagtahan Interchange, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Rotonda de Sampaloc, now the Nagtahan Interchange (pictured), originally demarcated the boundary between Manila's suburbs and its urban core?
