South Indian Film Industry edit

  • 1. POV, Each indian film industry is individual in its own terms and have individual articles in wikipedia.
  • 2. There is no single south indian film industry, Hindi film is also a part of revenue generation.
  • 3. The gross revenues of each Indian film industry varies each year, Hindi Film Revenue in 2011 is higher.
  • 4. There is no notability for this article, Instead it creates confusion and it not feasible to shift all the references and information from Cinema of India article.
  • 5. Please obey the three revert rule.

Humanitarian etc edit

I was trying to find something to add to Rani's page other than film appearances. I ran across this, saying that both were on the show, and that Preity donated her winnings, implying that Rani did not. Made me think maybe its not so common after all. You are probably right that it's common for most celebs to do this. Can Rani be noted for not doing it then, haha? BollyJeff || talk 00:17, 7 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Maybe Rani donated hers somewhere else, but it doesn't say. I don't know if you noticed but I did a Wikipedia:Peer review/Rani Mukerji/archive2 for smarojit, and noted that there is not much there except her films. Do you know if she has done anything else notable? BollyJeff || talk 00:50, 7 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Spaces edit

Hello Shshshsh! I fully agree with you that there's "nothing wrong with spaces"... they would normally be my personal preference in most cases. While editing Wikipedia however, I remove them because Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Bulleted and numbered lists tells us not to leave them there. I frequently tighten lists before saving changes to most articles I edit, only because it's something I've read about in the WP:MoS. I would not be inclined to do such a thing otherwise ;). Have yourself a great day Shshshsh. Happy editing. :)  -- WikHead (talk) 23:36, 11 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

So I need your opinion here edit

Regarding the 90s section in SRK article, I want to add a picture, either of KKHH or DDLJ. Both already uploaded on Wiki and used in other articles: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:RaneeKKHH.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:DDLJ_trainscene.jpg

Both were all time blockbusters, both won him Filmfare best actor award. tho I consider DDLJ to be more important in his career, the KKHH picture is better in quality. So? Ur opinion. --Meryam90 (talk) 04:07, 14 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Jessica Lange edit

Saw your ANI notice. Looked at the Jessica Lange article, which is indeed bloated with all sorts of unbelievable fansite nonsense. Still needs a lot of work; I've made a start by removing the word "garnered" or "garner", which appeared a startling sixteen times. Maybe it can go back in once or twice, but someone else should decide where. Best, Blake Burba (talk) 12:08, 20 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Your opinion please edit

Hey Shahid, hope you're well. I'm recruiting your opinion re the Hepburn page, since you are one of the few editors who has expressed an interest in it. I recently got rid of the "Career" main heading, and replaced it with several broader main headings. I can't decide if it is better like this, or if it was clearer keeping everything under "Career". What do you think? Do you think it's better now, or do you prefer how it used to be? --Lobo512 (talk) 21:28, 22 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'm still umm-ing and ahh-ing about which layout was better, but I think I leave it like this for now - primarily just because it is a bit more friendly on the eyes than having a wall of text. About the lead, it was suggested in the GA review that it be re-written to better cover all the sections. I agree that it's pretty long though. The reason it's organized like that is because she recommended having it follow the same chronological order as the article...which does make sense. There's no rule about this in WP:LEAD though, so I'd be open to mixing it around a bit. It's so tricky though! Feel free to have a go at redrafting it. I'm so nearly ready to take it to FAC by the way. I don't actually know if it's good enough or not, but I don't want to wait any longer. If it doesn't pass first time, that's fine. But I'm feeling impatient now and just want to see what happens. I spent the whole last week working on the images in preparation. I'm practically an expert on US copyright law now, haha. Ridiculous. I'm going to take it to FAC very soon, once I've done a full read-through/copyedit. Exciting! --Lobo512 (talk) 17:08, 23 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Screen Awards edit

Hi Shahid, I was thinking to work on Screen Awards. Do you still think we need to wait for other editors to voice themselves for the movement of Star Screen to simply Screen Awards as discussed on talk page? Or shall we go ahead with the movement. Regarding Filmfare award list edit

I will be very happy to discuss the matter regarding tabulation on Filmfare Award for Best Actor. I think tabulation enables better visibility, organization and condensation of data(maybe not the code size) on screen. Yeah it's looking odd at first sight but if same thing is done for full award list than will look quite condensed.

Since the history of Film fares is too long; even I think a tabulation of only year wise winners can be done with deletion of nominations. OR Nominations can be mentioned in a separate column for each year. What you say?? Jpmeena (talk) 15:54, 23 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

All of the major problems on here in regards to pushers are caused by Indians! The articles which wear you down the most are Indian. I'm sure you know what I mean in regards to the pushers in the Bollywood articles who will persist in reverting at all costs. The problem is that if their edits are not blatant vandalsim but are poort quality/degrading edits they are not dealt with and you usually end up having to continue reverting as no admin will step in. I'm hthinking of proposing something where experienced editors who've watched articles for years should be given the power in such situations to block newbies from interfering persistently. It is extremely tiring to deal with. If you want a laugh though check out this.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:24, 10 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Citation on NFA edit

Hey...wassup...I just thought of asking your opinion on adding citation on individual NFA pages (not main article). I am finished with all the main page articles so it might be a mere copy paste then. what say? Thanks. - VivvtTalk 23:30, 16 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Im lil confused. I don't want to add it as column because citation was not given prior to 25th NFA, so first 24th rows will have nothing in that column, which makes it redundant. But on the other side, if we add it below the row like individual NFA articles, then it doesn't give comfortable sort-ability. Whats your take on this? Let me know if you have other idea. Thanks. - VivvtTalk 17:23, 17 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Kajol edit

Hi. I've just begun work on the Kajol article. I see that you have included a number of her hit films in the lead, including Yeh Dillagi and Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha. Well, the reason why I included only Gupt and Dushman was because they both were "unconventional roles" for a Hindi film heroine in that era, before the Vidya Balan revolution began. I personally feel that there is no need to include Yeh Dillagi or PTHT, despite the fact that they were hits, because she wasn't doing anything new in them. Dimple edit

Many links are providing the year as 1984. Why to rely on one article of India Today (a magazine) published for business reasons.http://ibnlive.in.com/news/rajesh-khanna-to-be-discharged-soon-dimple/267667-8-66.html, http://www.daijiworld.com/news/news_disp.asp?n_id=140892 and many more.Onceshook1 (talk) 16:16, 26 June 2012 (UTC) Plus http://movies.ndtv.com/PhotoDetail.aspx?Page=9&ID=6523#talk. India today is a magazine and why whole wiki article needs to rely on that magazine's article alone? Onceshook1 (talk) 16:18, 26 June 2012 (UTC) 1) Kapadia separated from Khanna in 1984 as Khanna was busy with his career and his schedule kept him away and the couple developed misunderstandings and thereby Dimple became interested to act in films again. -- This is what each and every source says.(NDTV most reliable) 2) Plus by 1990, they did a film named Jai Shiv Shankar together (all film websites including IMDB have the detail of the film)and she has campigned for him in his election as MP from Delhi in 1991-92. 3)Also they never got divorced. In fact got together by 1990, though continued to live separately.(Movie Magazine interview with Rajesh Khanna) 4)They were together for their daughter's wedding and she has accompanied Khanna during his hospital visits. (so many references availbale online) 5)But the present article on Dimple Kapadia depicts her relation with her husband is very poor and as if she regrets marrying Khanna. Infact the Dimple wiki article relies mainly on India Today article to say so - that they separated in 1982 and that Khanna put a ban on her and to conclude that she and Khanna never got together!!! 6)Reason for giving the detail of Bobby releasing after her marriage with Khanna is of vital importance. Dimple became an Indian Actress only after her marriage with Khanna occurred in March 1973. Her film Bobby released in November 1973. 7)References as to Dimple was not serious about her acting career and that she, being a fan of Khanna, was more than happy to marry Khanna , when she was proposed by him etc...is not given in present article on Kapadia. Dimple was surprised by kind of success Bobby achieved and though she received film offers, she rejected as wanted to raise her children and concentrate on being a housewife. 7)She became wife of Khanna first and became a famous figure in media - being Khanna's wife and then gained popularity as an actress. 8) Lastly, her own quote to TOI, that she will feel incomplete if she does not do a film with Khanna in todays's time is indicative of fact that her relation with Khanna is not as bad as the present wiki article is projecting it as. Only after Khanna's schedules kept him away most of the time that couple developed misunderstanding and decided to seperate in 1984.They became close friends by 1990, but only lived separately.Onceshook1 (talk) 11:53, 27 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

3 featured articles in a week!! edit

Dearest Shahid, I thought you might like to know that Priyanka Chopra, Rani Mukerji and Sholay all passed FA in one week! Given what I remember about your dreams of promoting articles to FA, especially films like Sholay, I think you'll be very pleased! It's a pity you no longer have time to edit and I miss you a lot still, but the fact that Mother India and Sholay now have FA status is special. Bollyjeff feels exhausted and disheartened by the FA process at present, I hope in time he'll gain a new burst of energy because he is more valued than he thinks! I'm quite critical with actor articles, and have no problems with opposing if I really don't they're as good as they can be, but Sholay in particular is a terrific example of what can now be written about Indian films.Tibetan Prayer 12:37, 21 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Priyanka Chopra (born 1982) is an Indian film actress and singer, and was the winner of the Miss World pageant of 2000. She has become one of Bollywood's highest-paid actresses and one of the most popular celebrities in India. She has won a National Film Award for Best Actress and Filmfare Awards in four categories. She made her acting debut in the Tamil film Thamizhan in 2002. The following year, she starred in The Hero, her first Hindi film release, and followed it with the box-office hit Andaaz. She subsequently earned critical recognition as a seductress in the 2004 thriller Aitraaz. By 2006, Chopra had established herself as a leading actress of Hindi cinema with starring roles in the highly successful films Krrish and Don. After receiving mixed reviews for a series of unsuccessful films, she received critical acclaim for her portrayal of unconventional characters, including a troubled model in the 2008 drama Fashion, a feisty Marathi woman in the 2009 caper thriller Kaminey, a serial killer in the 2011 neo-noir 7 Khoon Maaf, and an autistic woman in the 2012 romantic comedy Barfi! She released her first music single "In My City" in 2012, and her second single "Exotic" in 2013. (Full article...)

Sholay is a 1975 action-adventure Indian Hindi film directed by Ramesh Sippy and produced by G. P. Sippy. Shot in the rocky terrain of Ramanagara (pictured), the film follows two criminals, Veeru and Jai (played by Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan), hired by a retired police officer (Sanjeev Kumar) to capture the ruthless dacoit Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan). When first released, Sholay received negative critical reviews and a tepid commercial response, but favourable word-of-mouth publicity helped it to become a box office success. It broke records for continuous showings in many theatres across India, and ran for more than five years at Mumbai's Minerva theatre. The film drew heavily from the conventions of Westerns, and is a defining example of the masala genre. The film's dialogues and certain characters became extremely popular, contributing to numerous cultural memes and becoming part of India's daily vernacular. In 2002, Sholay ranked first in the British Film Institute's list of "Top 10 Indian Films" of all time. It was re-released in 3D in January 2014. (Full article...)

SRK edit

There is some talk of pushing this one to GA. There is something I have to know first though. You have always been adamant about the title of the article being 'Shahrukh Khan' instead of 'Shah Rukh Khan'. I have to know why, because it seems to go against WP:COMMONNAME. Is it his birth name? Where is the source? Even if it is, many biographies are titled by common name and then add "born as ..." or something like that either in the first sentence, infobox, or early life sections. What is your rationale for fighting what seems obvious to most? BollyJeff | talk 14:05, 29 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Sorry but I reverted what you added in the media on Zinta, it didn't seem appropriate, for a magazine maybe.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:42, 30 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Things have come on a fair way on here since 2007 days. What was acceptable for an FA back then often isn't today. Especially in regard to neutrality and evading some of the cruft a lot of people add to these articles. I don't think the quote added anything you haven't already said about being outspoken! Also I think it's best to avoid reviews by Taran Adarsh. I've said a few times in the last year or so to the others that he's a joke critic who ought to be blacklisted from here. It became increasingly obvious to me that he's paid to say the things he does by the film producers! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:47, 30 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

"While she believes she is "not as tough as people portray [her] to be," she admits this attitude has often put her in trouble. In spite of this, she asserts having no qualms about speaking her mind, remaining undeterred by controversy as long as she stands "by what’s right", and willing to withstand the consequences "even if the whole world opposes."Shetty-Saha, Shubha (12 October 2008). "Preity Zinta talks tough!". Daily News and Analysis. Retrieved 30 March 2015."

It's too wordy I think for what you're trying to say, how about" "Although she has no qualms about speaking her mind, even if faced with surmounting opposition, she has confessed to not be as resilient as some people portray her to be.Shetty-Saha, Shubha (12 October 2008). "Preity Zinta talks tough!". Daily News and Analysis. Retrieved 30 March 2015.

Still too wordy for what you're trying to say, it doesn't quite read as well as it could if you shortened it to one sentence IMO. I wouldn't normally revert but what I read didn't seem right. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:04, 30 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

New material is always good. I do think you have to be careful with how you word what is added though. Emailing you shortly through wiki mail.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:06, 30 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

I don't think you need to quote it. I'd just say " "Although she has no qualms about speaking her mind, even if faced with surmounting opposition, she has confessed to not be as resilient as some people portray her to be." It reads much better I think.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:08, 30 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

I can't believe you re-reverted this. It reads inappropriately, like a fan magazine. Her own perception of herself is largely irrelevant. As I say at best you could say "Although she has no qualms about speaking her mind, even if faced with surmounting opposition, she has confessed to not be as resilient as some people portray her to be". I don't think it's really needed. At this rate SandyGeorgia will be opening an FAR!♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:30, 6 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi edit

I recently saw a message on the good Doctor's page where you say the Zinta article "remains the best-researched article on an Indian actress among the many others added to the list recently". That's highly demeaning to the work done by me and various others, the Doctor included. You talk about the extensive research you did on the Zinta article, but these comments only undermine the equal amount of work done by others in this encyclopedia. I request you to think how you would feel if someone makes a similar statement on your work. Thank you. --Krimuk|90 (talk) 02:09, 7 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the message. The only reason I decided to post the above message was because of how much of an inspiration you were to me when I first started editing. And the thought that you felt my work was not on par with Zinta's article was a little bit upsetting. But thanks for clearing it out. Much appreciated.   Yes, the Kapadia article looks great, given how little literature we have on her in the net. I must also say how glad I am that you are back. Hope to see many more FAs from you. :) --Krimuk|90 (talk) 01:45, 8 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
As someone who reviewed Kapadia's article, I must say that it was my best bet (as a reviewer) until Maurice Leyland. I consider this as your best work till date. Glad to see you again :) Vensatry (ping) 09:22, 14 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Anand edit

Saw Anand earlier, Sumita Sanyal very beautiful! I remembered you loved Bette Davis. Have you seen A Stolen Life? What's your top five Bette Davis films? Baby Jane is my favourite followed by Now Voyager. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:18, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

The Letter also one of her greatest ones. I'm going to watch Mr Skeffington later! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:26, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Seen it, but forgot about it!♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:32, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Are you still really Zinta's biggest fan nearly ten years after her career died LOL? She was so promising back in 2006, it's like she hit 30 odd and was suddenly considered too old! She was just showing promise too, I saw her in that Canadian film for instance. What happened? Saw Queen the other day, great isn't it?♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:48, 9 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I'm aware of her cricket ownership interests, but it's still disappointing that she abandoned her film career. She may be the reason, but I'm aware that in Bollywood actresses struggle in their 30s and 40s as younger ones come in. I'm sure Krimuk90 would agree with me.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:54, 9 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

It's odd when we see how many Western actresses are so active in their 30s and 40s, unlike here in India, where they nearly retire at the same age. Kailash29792 (talk) 13:33, 9 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Oh, it angers me no end! Zinta could now be playing so many complex roles, if only she was given the opportunity! If Rani Mukerji can have a success last year with Mardaani so can Zinta. --Krimuk|90 (talk) 13:35, 9 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Civility edit

  The Civility Barnstar
Hi there, I think you're doing stellar job of remaining civil in your discussion at Talk:Bajirao Mastani, which I know has spilled onto other talk pages. Your thick-skinned, level-headed, "not going to bite the bait" approach is exactly the attitude we need more of at Wikipedia, so kudos to you. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 02:16, 13 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Indeed! But isn't it time to take a stand and put an end to such abuse, Cyphoidbomb? --Krimuk2.0 (talk) 09:47, 13 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Insufficient. edit

Whether or not you are in the middle of editing, these changes,[1][2] which are unsourced, are insufficient. There is no deadline for improving an article, and sources should be added at the time you add them, not later. And your resubmission, again with no source, totally contravenes normal editing procedure, since any editor who restores unsourced content must provide a reference. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 01:58, 17 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi there, good seeing you. If I were you I would just assume good faith (said out of respect), this is not the first time I'm editing, let alone this page. I added this word because the reference was already there, only in the next paragraph, that's how I actually found this information which surprised me because I was checking the archived references and comparing them with updated versions. Since I was copyediting some other parts of the same section, I preferred to revert you so that I could save my changes first. ShahidTalk2me 02:13, 17 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hello, the changes should be sourced the first time. And beyond that, I'm not sure how you can objectively differentiate a "major success" being equal to a subjective "super hit" rating by one single outlet. Seems like undue focus on one outlet's subjective rating system, an outlet that is not known to be a reliable content aggregator. And if a super-hit is a major success, then how would you describe a "blockbuster" rating? Mega-major success? And how would you deal with one of the more ridiculous subjective labels, "all-time blockbuster status"? Seems like one would probably run out of hyperbolic expressions that would still fit WP:NPOV, but maybe I'm wrong. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 03:08, 17 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi again! I'll explain it again because I do want to make this clear: I thought the source was there - I usually do add sources right away. When I noticed your revert I specifically left an edit summary to let you know I'm about to fix this (wanted to avoid an edit conflict for my next changes). That being said, I have to say that in principle I find editing to be an ongoing procedure. I remember spending days working on the Dimple Kapadia article, all by myself, and no one even seemed to be visiting it, and that's why during this period of construction I sometimes took the liberty of editing bit by bit and obviously not everything was complete after my every revision. Just an observation but let's move on. :)
Your second concern is actually very fair, and I share similar sentiments, but then there's no other way to put it. Actually throughout the years, when I was going through different sources for this article, many had mentioned the film to be a big, big hit. I still wouldn't mention it on the article since BOI was accepted among us as a credible source and it didn't label it that way. When I worked on the article back in the day I strictly avoided the use of even the commonly-used term "blockbuster", not to mention "superhit" or "all time whatever" or any of these ridiculous labels, as you rightly put it; thought they were entirely inappropriate on WP. In such cases where films were really mega-blockbusters, I just used descriptive means by saying that the film was the top earner (which is generally the case with blockbusters), or one of the top earners, or popular, or simply mentioning how much it actually earned. The readers are intelligent enough to derive their own conclusions off it. Generally speaking, I think there are many creative ways to do it, as long as it does not become repetitive (I actually made sure it didn't, looking if any such phrase appears somewhere else in the article before adding it) and is within context. By the same token, by the way, I wouldn't use the words "flop" or "box office disaster". But then I do believe that even if we don't use the exact terms used by the source, we can still see the relative trends set by them as if they were spots along a sort of continuum. Of course one should avoid WP:OR but then we should be bold and use common sense as well. My common sense says that super hit is not a moderate or regular success, but a major one. Section summary edit

The section summary that I was talking to at that talk page was the name change of "Widespread success" to "Recognition of Barfi and Mary Kom" ignoring the other success she had in that phase, just like the sections of other Bollywood actresses. A section is named the overall summary of the phase so how can it only be limited to just acclaim for her two films? What do you think? And I want your view on the removal of the consensed version of the article of Bajirao Mastani.Krish | Talk To Me 17:52, 20 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Your best bet is starting a discussion on the talk page specifically about that. Because of this tendency to discuss so many things in one section, many issues get lost. Now I'm no pro on PC's career graph, but I'll be willing to take part in the discussion. It shouldn't be that big of a deal, by the way, because people could just say what they think at the most basic level, whether they agree or disagree to the name change.
