Notability of Very Large Vehicles of BC edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Very Large Vehicles of BC, by WWGB (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Very Large Vehicles of BC seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Very Large Vehicles of BC, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 07:38, 4 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Welcome edit

Hola!

I see from your contributions that you have been editing for some time. But, the quality of your edits are suspect. Have you read any of the tutorials? An encyclopedia needs to have some uniformity amongst its articles to make the experience cohesive and enjoyable. Coming out with you own style and format breaks this pattern, and makes it hard for the reader to grasp what you are trying to say.

I highly recommend that you read some of the tutorials and look at some of the Wikipedia:Featured articles to get an idea of what is trying to be achieved here.

Welcome!

Hello, Sfsorrow2, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question and then place {{helpme}} before the question on your talk page. Again, welcome!

Make it about quality, not quantity.

The summit of the mountain the thunder of the sky, the rhythm of the sea, speaks to me

The faintness of the stars, the freshness of the morning, the dew drop of the flower, speaks to me.

The strength of fire, the taste of salmon, the trail of the sun And the life that never goes away, they speak to me.

As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 20:00, 19 September 2010 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Acather96 (talk) 20:00, 19 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

why ? that's your job !

No, it's NOT his job, SFS, not at all. I was already coming here to tell you "please sandbox this stuff before you put it in namespace", ie. make it into an article. You post t hings without proper formatting, even categories, and quite frankly they could be legitimately deleted fairly quickly. This is an article I've been meaning to get at starting for a long time, if not having ot put out fires all over the place, in Wikipedia and elsewhere - including picking up affter you. Please start respecting other editors by not expecting them to provide citations, formats, categories and proper layout as you're supposed to do. Otherwise keep stuff like Steamboats of the Lower Fraser River and Harrison Lake on User talk:Sfsorrow2/Sandbox and invite other editors to help you write/fix it and guide you to do it properly; you're wrong in various assertions in this article, e.g. teh focus on IRving and Moore, without any mention of Hugh Nelson or Frank Barnard or Wells Fargo and the situation that led to the demand for steamboat service, and why it went up to Harrison Lake; the Skuzzy shouldn't dominate the article so much, it's not really "the Lower Fraser" (i.e. above Yale isn't "the Lower Fraser"). But your attitude stinks, as much as I respect your knowledge, and it's becoming a pain...uncited, and rambling like this is, it's really WP:OR, WP:SYNTH and WP:Essay - and could rightly be deleted. I'm irked because the intro as it is now doesn't have proper historical context - about the economics, the route, the geography, the rivalries between different captains and companies and the deal between Barnard and Nelson, the details of the first vessels on Harrison Lake, the Riffles etc etc etc, various explosions etc etc etc. You've put in place something that just isn't an effective timeline, and - from my view - far too perfunctory. And no, I don't have time to fix it right now, nor do I have time for the type of smart comment you made to the other editor above, nor do I have time to give you a (big) list of rading materials you should absorb before sallying forth on an article, without even caring to place "See also" within th necessary equals marks to make it a heading.....lazy, lazy, lazy, and now rude. Look, do me a big favour and DON'T start on the Kamloops and Shuswap one, OK/ I've been picking up far too many unneeded taskss around Wikipedia, including ones you've launched (deliberatlye for others to fix), to have time to do it. And I want to do it properly. And when the time comes I'll probably rewrite this whole thing entire; uncited and unformed, it shouldn't have been published. Keep stuff in the sandbox until you've learned enough to play with others to make it work, before expecting them to clean articles up for you because you can't be bothered....Skookum1 (talk) 06:03, 4 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Regarding Volga Steamers, and other contributions edit

Hello Sfsorrow2 --

I understand that you are frustrated regarding my recent nomination to delete the Volga River Steamers article. Please don't take this personally. WP:NOTABLE lays out the criteria for when we decide that a topic warrants its own article. If you can explain how Volga River Steamers satisfies these criteria, then there should be no problem, and the page will be kept. Also, I've noticed that a large portion of your work does not cite any sources. Please take a look at WP:V, which states that all information added into Wikipedia needs to cite a reliable source. Let me know if you have any questions, or need help with anything. I know it's confusing, and is very different from how you might write in other places, but with an open encyclopedia, it's very important that we maintain strict limits on what type of information gets included, so that Wikipedia remains a credible resource. Again, please take a look at WP:NOTABLE and WP:V, and let me know if you have any questions about them. Best wishes. ~ Mesoderm (talk) 03:34, 4 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sfsorrow2 -- It seems that you know quite a bit about steam boats, and I'm sure you have a lot to contribute to Wikipedia. Please try to calm down and understand where I am coming from. Anyone can edit Wikipedia. Most people (like yourself) are interested in including factually correct information. Some people are not. To deal with those people that are not, we require that everyone provide reliable sources for ALL of the information they include in the article. We do not accept the publication of original research here. I would love to see your wealth of knowledge on steamboats be used to improve Wikipedia, but it must be done in the right way. I would love to help you do this. But I need you to work with me, instead of getting angry at me. Please take a look at the pages I've linked to here, and then come to my page if you have any questions or comments about it. I really don't have anything against you, and can tell that you know a lot about the subject, but you just need some work on how you include the information here. Cheers. ~ Mesoderm (talk) 04:03, 4 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
By the way, if you want to see an example of how an article on steamboats could be written that adheres to the policies I'm talking about, take a look at Steamboats of the Columbia River. Note that there are several reliable sources that talk about the subject, which shows that it satisfies WP:NOTABLE, and that the statements in the article each cite one of these sources. Do you see how this is different from your Volga River Steamers article? (If not, I don't mind explaining it to you further). ~ Mesoderm (talk) 06:01, 4 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Istanbul ferries edit

By now you should know not to leave an article in the state you left it. Go back and add some specifics and some references. Presumably you have a source available, so use it. Perhaps you may have written the article to support the photograph, but it really does need some expansion. I advise you to fix the problem before the article gets nominated for deletion by a regular deletion process.

If I can help you further, let me know on my user talk page. DGG ( talk ) 04:22, 21 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Your contributed article, Seattle tugboats edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, Seattle tugboats. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as yourself. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Washington State Ferries. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Washington State Ferries - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. jsfouche ☽☾Talk 14:17, 24 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
