Disambiguation link notification

Hi. When you recently edited Pope John Paul II, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page MEP (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Surplus spaces

Hi. Sorry for disturb, it's for a technical issue. In your general fixes using AWB and removing surplus spaces in some articles you have also removed the "empty space" after the "pipe", to categorize an article in its own category (ex.: London is categorized as [[Category:London| ]], not [[Category:London]]). This standard procedure to categorize is explained here (Arrange for the article to appear etc...) . Anyway, I'm fixing some articles with "their own category". Is it possible to do it automatically for the remaining ones? I'm not an expert of WP tools as AWB, HotCat or to flag a bot. Regards. --Dэя-Бøяg 20:24, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi Derborg, I see you've already fixed it. Thank you very much. The change you refer to was an unexpected effect of removing whitedspace. :-(
Thank you for fixing it. -- Marek.69 talk 01:07, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Peer review limits changed

This is a notice to all users who currently have at least one open peer review at Wikipedia:Peer review. Because of the large number of peer review requests and relatively low number of reviewers, the backlog of PRs has been at 20 or more almost continually for several months. The backlog is for PR requests which have gone at least four days without comments, and some of these have gone two weeks or longer waiting for a review.

While we have been able to eventually review all PRs that remain on the backlog, something had to change. As a result of the discussion here, the consensus was that all users are now limited to one (1) open peer review request.

If you already have more than one open PR, that is OK in this transition period, but you cannot open any more until all your active PR requests have been closed. If you would like someone to close a PR for you, please ask at Wikipedia talk:Peer review. If you want to help with the backlog, please review an article whoe PR request is listed at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog/items. Thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:33, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

something amiss?

I think so, just going by comments on the peer review, and the urls in the references are always changing. -- Marek.69 talk 03:50, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
Is there a way of making the references more permanent? -- Marek.69 talk 04:11, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
I was thinking it might have been a mis-click, like this one surely was. You'd cut the bottom half of the article off ;-) I didn't look at the review. You could use Wayback Machine links or WebCites if links are rotting on you. Alarbus (talk) 05:06, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
I am sorry Alarbus, I really have no idea how that happened. Thank you for fixing it :-) :-) -- Marek.69 talk 17:49, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

I am sorry I did not reply sooner - I see the peer review has been closed and that it received quite a lot of comments. Request for Comment on the Berlin page

Hi - since you edited the Berlin page within the last couple months, I'm writing to ask if you'd like to weigh in on a current content dispute that has resulted in a request for comment. The issue, simply, is whether the Berlin article should include an image of the "Buddy Bears" or not. Thanks for your time, Sindinero (talk) 16:29, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Pope John Paul II

Hi,

I'm sorry for the lateness of my reply, I've not had much time in the last weeks! I don't know how much this matters now, but I just wanted to say that the Pope John Paul II page seems to be in great shape - there are many references, most of which seem good, and they seem formatted properly, the information seems detailed... I will admit, I only looked at the page briefly, thus there may be some issues which I may have accidentally overlooked, yet, on the surface, it seems to be a very good, GA-esque article.

Best wishes

--&レア (talk) 12:16, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi Marek--

Kind Sir:

You left me a message twice before-- one of which I missed (somehow it flashed by too fast).

Being a Newbie, I have not wanted to remove spam myself. And I have not wanted to Edit myself.

I do not wish to get into a debate on the Talk page-- so I post and *move on*.

Today, was absurd. Versageek rather than recognize that I was pointing out Spam, pushed a button to revert. Why should I change Spam? I understand I have such Authority, but it is not my job. I do not get paid.

Wikipedia is in danger of falling to Spam; it is no longer my concern.

Again, thanks for your kind assistance.

TheLordSayeth (talk) 08:28, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

There is some sort of major misunderstanding. An unregistered user added spam to Massage and TheLordSayeth added a comment to the article saying the link was spam. Then Versageek restored the article to how it was before the spam was added. That would appear to be a good thing, and there should be no need to post messages about it. Johnuniq (talk) 09:13, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

New Page Triage engagement strategy released

Hey guys!

I'm dropping you a note because you filled out the New Page Patrol survey, and indicated you'd be interested in being contacted about follow-up work. This is to notify you that we've finally released both the initial documentation about the project and also the engagement strategy, which sets out how we plan to work with the community on this. Please give both a read, and leave any comments or suggestions you have on the talkpage, on my talkpage, or in my inbox - okeyes@wikimedia.org.

It's awesome to finally get to start work on this! :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 02:47, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

GOCE March 2012 Backlog Elimination progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! Here's the mid-drive newsletter.

Participation: We have had 58 people sign up for this drive so far, which compares favorably with our last drive, and 27 have copy-edited at least one article. If you have signed up but have not yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!

Progress report: Our target of completing the 2010 articles has almost been reached, with only 56 remaining of the 194 we had at the start of the drive. The last ones are always the most difficult, so thank you if you are able to help copy-edit any of the remaining articles. We have reduced the total backlog by 163 articles so far.

Special thanks: Special thanks to Stfg, who has been going through the backlog and doing some preliminary vetting of the articles—removing copyright violations, doing initial clean-up, and nominating some for deletion. This work has helped make the drive a more pleasant experience for all our volunteers.

Your drive coordinators – Dianna (talk), Stfg (talk), and Dank (talk)

Campione d'Italia province and region

I see that you stated that Campione d'Italia will be also part of the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossiola (and therefore of Region Piedmont) starting from 2013, but there are no news in Italian or Swiss press about this change, and no source is cited. Moreover, the Italian version of the Wikipedia article does not mention about that. I think that a citation would be needed. Thank you in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.21.15.159 (talk) 20:21, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

Help for a new user

Hi Marek69,

I am a student at Clemson University, and I have created a page on vertebral osteomyelitis for an English assignment. I was wondering if you could look over my article and provide me with any feedback you might have as to how I can improve the article. Here is the link to my page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vertebral_osteomyelitis

Thanks in advance,

Hi Jwrigh9, thank you for your message.
I've had a quick read through your article, and I am impressed.
The article is well written and well referenced and looks like it has been written by an experienced user.
Congratuations!
I will take another look when I have some more time and give you more feedback. :-)
Wishing you good luck (and fun) with your article writing.

GOCE March drive wrap-up

Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive
Writing Magnifying.PNG
GOCE March 2012 Backlog Elimination progress graph

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! This is the most successful drive we have had for quite a while. Here is your end-of-drive wrap-up newsletter.

Participation

Of the 70 people who signed up for this drive, 40 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Special acknowledgement goes out to Lfstevens, who did over 200 articles, most of them in the last third of the drive, and topped all three leaderboard categories. You're a superstar! Stfg and others have been pre-checking the articles for quality and conformance to Wikipedia guidelines; some have been nominated for deletion or had some preliminary clean-up done to help make the copy-edit process more fun and appealing. Thanks to all who helped get those nasty last few articles out of the target months.

Progress report

During this drive we were successful in eliminating our target months—October, November, and December 2010—from the queue, and have now eliminated all the 2010 articles from our list. We were able to complete 500 articles this month! End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here.

When working on the backlog, please keep in mind that there are options other than copy-editing available; some articles may be candidates for deletion, or may not be suitable for copy-editing at this time for other reasons. The {{GOCEreviewed}} tag can be placed on any article you find to be totally uneditable, and you can nominate for deletion any that you discover to be copyright violations or completely unintelligible. If you need help deciding what to do, please contact any of the coordinators.

Thank you for participating in the March 2012 drive! All contributions are appreciated. Our next copy-edit drive will be in May.

Super Earths

Having just read an article in the National Geographic on a new "Super Earth", which turns out to be a very unpleasant place in all aspects like temperature (2000°C), twice the size and eight times the mass of our Blue Planet, I looked up the definition in Wikipedia and found your contribution on the talk page. Previously, I was sure that a "super earth" was at least required to orbit the sun in the habitable zone, where water is basically fluid; a minimum requirement for life (as we know it). From there, I wonder who defined this most irritating definition of some rocky planet which may have extreme conditions in most other data; after all, such a body in space would have nothing to do with Earth, but suggests a connection anyway. Would it not be worth while challenging this weird definition to something more meaningful (in the direction I've pointed out above)? Kind regards, casey_san 80.132.235.39 (talk) 12:37, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

GOCE May mid-drive newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors May 2012 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter
Writing Magnifying.PNG

Participation: Out of 49 people signed up for this drive so far, 26 have copy-edited at least one article. It's a smaller group than last drive, but we're making good progress. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!

Progress report: We're on track to meet our targets for the drive, largely due to the efforts of Lfstevens and the others on the leaderboard. Thanks to all. We have reduced our target group of articles—January, February, and March 2011—by over half, and it looks like we will achieve that goal. Good progress is being made on the overall backlog as well, with over 500 articles copy-edited during the drive so far. The total backlog currently sits at around 3200 articles.

Hall of Fame: GOCE coordinator Diannaa was awarded a spot in the GOCE Hall of Fame this month! She has copy-edited over 1567 articles during these drives, and surpassed the 1,000,000-word mark on May 5. On to the second million! – Your drive coordinators: Dank, Diannaa and Stfg
