Can you show me the source which states that the work by Indian Government is in PD? I can show you that it is copyrighted and the holder of the copyright is the Government itself.

From the copyright handbook published by the Indian Copyright Office ([1])

What is a government work?

"Government work" means a work which is made or published by or under the direction or control of

the government or any department of the government

any legislature in India, and

any court, tribunal or other judicial authority in India.

so the image under question is Government work.

Who is the owner of copyright in a government work?

In the case of a government work, government shall, in the absence of any agreement to the contrary, be the first owner of the copyright therein.

So the image is copyrighted and the reason is a false reason. Σαι ( Talk) 12:33, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

I have put citations for half the page already. I hope this satisfies your needs. You are requested to remove headings from the page which doubt the contents and demand verifications of the contents.I have the citations for rest of the page and they'll be put in a day or two, as it is a time consuming process.

Hope you'll take action to remove headings which create doubts about the page.

Hi Rueben lys, Will you mind adding new text to the parent article instead? I say this because the British Raj article is already bloated and its history section will need to be reduced. Thanks! Fowler&fowler«Talk» 14:52, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Azad Hind Cabinet.jpg}

Thank you for uploading Image:Azad Hind Cabinet.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Tokyo Boys

Ok, so you are saying that they were not Japanese collaborators because you are a patriotic Indian. However, these were former Indian troops of the British Army that willingly trained to serve with the enemy. Regardless of domestic politics after the war they were collaborating with the Japanese. On the administrative side, their significance is not so crucial to the Second World War that they should be in the root directory where no article is supposed to go. Now, I am going to revert you, and we can discuss the best suitable category on the article talk, ok.--mrg3105 (comms) ♠♣ 22:04, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Re:AfD

Hello Rueben, I am sorry that I missed to inform it on your talkpage. Actually, since this was my first AfD nomination, I followed all steps mentioned at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:AfD#How_to_list_pages_for_deletion page. I didn't see that I need to inform the person who started this page. I notified the users who monitor AfD as per step 3. I see that your intend is good for creating this new article, but such things are bound to happen when you create duplicate articles and leave it for 3-4 days unattended. Meanwhile others also seem to have been working on this article and so it looked like this article would largely stay as it is. So I nominated it for AfD. Infact I had read the article and nominated it earlier for DYK saying this is very good article. But DYK admins pointed out that this is a copy-paste and so I nominated it for AfD.

I would suggest you use your userspace for such activities. Create pages like User:Rueben lys/article name for working and when it is ready moved it to mainspace and delete the page from your userspace. This would avoid such confusions and you would be able to work peacefully in your userspace and publishing the article when you think it is ready.

I see that the AfD nom has been closed now. So happy editing and continue the good work... :-) --gppande «talk» 07:11, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

I have a comment regarding the script at the peer review. KnowledgeHegemonyPart2 18:14, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

India House quite well written and is FA-worthy. I suggest you should request Ruhrfisch (expert reviewer) or that matter any of the reviewers at the WP:FAC, WP:PR, WP:LOCE page to have a look at your article. Obviously don't canvass too much but keep asking experienced editors (and copyeditors) from the various WikiProjects (India, London, British Empire) to have a look. I know its frustrating when you don't get peer reviewersbut try all the channels possible. You van try WP:GAC too BUT I am warning you forehand that the GAC is having a huge backlog and expecting your article to be reviewed quickly will be a mistake. Anyways, your patience shall pay dividends. Also what about a second FA nom of Hindu-German conspiracy? KnowledgeHegemonyPart2 12:32, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

I read half of it, and I felt it needs copyediting. Some sentences are too long and confusing. KnowledgeHegemonyPart2 15:39, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Paris Bande Mataram 17 August 1909.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Paris Bande Mataram 17 August 1909.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:52, 8 July 2008 (UTC). India House 2

I'll have a look. Copyedit can be a bit subjective, some things are not right/wrong. Because copyedit means I'll get a very good idea of the quality of the article, I may well comment at FAC, whether people like that or not. Generally, when commenting, I restrict myself to positives and to specifics I think to be important improvements, often I only make positive comments and support.

Anyway, I'll see what I can do, hope it helps. Whatever happens, thank you for all the hard work involved in getting an article to this stage. Alastair Haines (talk) 02:48, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

One thing jumps out at me regarding content development. In the history section, a little more depth (highly summarised) may help. Specifically, like Greece in antiquity, medieval Italy and like Germany, also like the early United States of America, India was not a unified nation prior to recent times—rather, it was a very loose federation of essentially independent states, not infrequently fighting one another.
Perhaps paradoxically, the British Raj, by introducing and standardising government administration and public service, arguably contributed significantly to the viability of a National India. I'm sure writers must describe this. It explains why national identity was a "concept" at the turn of the 20th century, not something more concrete.
Obviously, subsequent history shows something similar with the India–Pakistan divide, and then Bangladeshi independence.
"National identity" was a radical new idea, not simply because it implied independence from the British (a "negative" aim), but because it was all but unprecedented for the Indian states to be unified (a "positive" aim). Of course, it was the very lack of unity that allowed the British to dominate the subcontinent for centuries (the Battle of Plassey is an example par excellance).
Just a thought. Alastair Haines (talk) 03:24, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
Since it appears that you've found another copyeditor, I'll assume you no longer require my services. Good luck with the article. – Scartol • Tok 12:17, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
I can have a look in a few days if you still need it, but since I have so little free time, I'd rather donate it to someone without a primary copyedit. But if you don't hear from me by Thursday, give me a holler and I'll see what I can do. – Scartol • Tok 16:35, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Sorry to see the FAC was rejected. I wish I could have gotten to it earlier – or, rather, I should have posted a comment at the FAC asking for a little more time. In any case, I'll hopefully finish my CE by tomorrow, and have some suggestions. Keep yer head up; FAC is, if nothing else, an exercise in patience! – Scartol • Tok 16:31, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:India House today.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:India House today.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. Orphaned non-free media (Image:India House collage.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:India House collage.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Indian Science and Technology

Thank you for the barnstar. I'm grateful that you thought that my edits were worthy of of it. I will be careful not to repeat the same mistakes—attributing stuff to political figureheads—in the future but sometimes they do some good work (although not too often in India).

I had a lot of things on my mind when I edited on the article. The first thing was to give it minimum decency and respectability and then move on and do the same to every article here—as I've been trying for the past few days. I have a lot of stuff from Information technology in India—another article I rewrote—to add in the 'Indian Science and Technology' article but it can probably wait until several other articles gain minimum respectability (recently 9 articles in here already have).

I'll try and add more as time progresses. My first attempt—one that many articles immediately need—is to bring some respectability to the otherwise rambling and neglected articles here.

I'll be spamming you to take a look at my edits in the future :-)

Image permission problem with Image:India House today.jpg

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:India House today.jpg, which you've sourced to londonremembers.com. I noticed that that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 14:45, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Image license concern

Hi Stifle, you left a message on my talk page re: the license for Image:India House today.jpg. The owner of the image has already given Creative commons license permission to use the image, which has been forwarded to the wikimedia section dealing with image license. I recieved a further correspondence from wikimedia asking that the image provider clarify that she is releasing it under CC3 license (from what I gathered from the message). This I have forwarded to the provider today (I have been hard pressed for time), but haven't heard from her yet. However, as you will aprreciate, given that she has already agreed to a cc license, I dont see why she would disagree to this clarification. I ask that you give me a couple of working days, so I have enough time to hear from her. If it is not there by next tuesday, you can delete it. rueben_lys (talk · contribs) 20:07, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Image source problem with Image:German members of the Niedermayer-Hentig Expedition in Kabul.jpg

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:German members of the Niedermayer-Hentig Expedition in Kabul.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 00:01, 1 October 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kam Solusar (talk) 00:01, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Raja Ram Mohan Roy.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Raja Ram Mohan Roy.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --FairuseBot (talk) 04:33, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Kartar Singh Sarabha.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Kartar Singh Sarabha.jpg.

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:18, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
