Truthfully, that situation seems to be stuck in a stalemate. Your best bet, I think, would be to make the effort to improve that article. Casliber has promised to lift the protection if someone is willing to do that, and since you are interested in the article, that would be the cleanest route forward. Navbox Image

I have to say I love that image everytime this debate comes up. It really is the perfect example of just how bad a trend these navboxes have become. I wish the entire wiki would wipe them out completely and then come up with a much more clean way to do it from scratch. Vancouver Canucks Media Guide

Hello, I recently asked a question on the [Canucks task force page] about division championships since I have been having trouble sourcing the period of time when the NHL had Divisional Playoffs. I was hoping that some one would have a Canucks Media Guide to help me source the correct number of championships, and DJSasso (talk) mentioned that he thought you had Media guides for all teams. I was hoping you could help me with this issue, essentially I need a reference that the Canucks won a division Championship in 1981-82 and did not win one in 1991-92 and 1992-93 before I attempted to get List of Vancouver Canucks seasons to FL status. We have some things in common. One is Wikicup. I am in the second round but it will be very close whether or not I make the third round.

Do you firmly believe this? This statement was so convincing that I changed my opinion about changing a guideline to a policy. So would you, in theory, be opposed to a policy based on another guideline? In theory, the policy might be made more broad (and less of repeating a guideline) or the policy rewritten to just govern broad policy and the guideline govern some more specific?

Look here: WP:ONEEVENT. This is a guideline. It is neutrally written. It says that "If the event is highly significant, and the individual's role within it is a large one, a separate article is generally appropriate", if not, then no article. I like the neutrality that this guideline's language uses.

Now look here: WP:BLP1E. This is a policy. It is a mess. The mess includes:
1. It refers to the main document (link) as the WP:ONEEVENT guideline. A policy should not point to a guideline, it's vice versa. Links for info are ok but not the link that say "Main" as in main article.
2. The policy is not written in a neutral fashion. It basically is prohibits articles on people known for one event, except in exceptional cases.
3. The policy conflicts with the main guideline that it refers to. (see 1 and 2)

People should not decide on what to do based on their goals. Deletionists should not try to make things so difficult so that no article qualifies. Inclusionists should not try to say anything goes. What we should do is to make the policy and guidelines compatible. Actually, the guideline is written better than the policy. The policy might read that caution should be given about writing about one event people be somewhat vague. The guideline should then refer to the policy and give more specific advice. The guidelines would be subject to change more often and the policy would, hopefully, not change as often.

Let's discuss this before acting further. A study group working on this (you and me to begin with) might not be a bad idea. Suomi Finland 2009 (talk) 22:38, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

If reliable sources cover the person only in the context of a single event, and if that person otherwise remains, or is likely to remain, a low-profile individual, we should generally avoid having an article on them. Biographies in these cases can give undue weight to the event and conflict with neutral point of view. In such cases, it is usually better to merge the information and redirect the person's name to the event article. If the event is significant and the individual's role within it is substantial, a separate biography may be appropriate. Individuals notable for well-documented events, such as John Hinckley, Jr., fit into this category. The significance of an event or individual should be indicated by how persistent the coverage is in reliable sources.

Reason for replacement: You understand it well. A policy referring to the main article, which is a guideline, a policy which is not as well written as the guideline, etc.

Yeah. It gets confusing because the Stanley Cup wasn't the NHL championship for the first ten years of the league's existence. The Canadiens have 25 NHL titles, 24 Stanley Cups and 23 Stanley Cups as members of the NHL. They won the NHL titles in 1919 (O'Brien Trophy) and 1925 (PoW Trophy) but failed to win the Stanley Cup in either of those two seasons. Resolute 17:02, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

I recently started WikiProject Association Football competitions. There are a couple people who disagree with this WikiProject being set-up. Namely Jmorrison230582 has an issue with it. He/she has made several edits like this one. And I have readded the template without deleting the other template he is using. Let's point out a few facts here. WP:FOOTY already covers all the areas that Kingjeff's new "project" claims to cover. Indeed, there is a dedicated task force (WP:SEASONS) that covers competitions in more detail. Instead of notifying that project or that task force, Kingjeff set up a new project without going through the due process of WP:COUNCIL. Since people have started pointing these facts out to Kingjeff, this user has taken ownership of that project and has blatantly disregarded those valid points. As an uninvolved admin, I think you might want to let this one go. They are right, you are just duplicating another project that is already in existance. Basically, that section lists a Wikipedia guideline as the main article. The main article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_(people)#People_notable_only_for_one_event ) is not very long, just about 4 short paragraphs. It gives clear examples. It is neutral. However, the short version ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Biographies_of_living_persons#BLP1E ) is not neutral and basically says no articles are permitted except for Hinckley type cases. I have both pasted the 4 short paragraphs as a replacement and also pasted a short summary of the 4 paragraphs. One person doesn't like it.

Have to say I think you hit the nail right on the head there (in your comment on Chris's talk). I was pretty much willing to do whatever it took to get Chris's changes through as long as he was willing to discuss other ways to try and solve how we group information together. But the minute Andy stepped in and went straight for the you must do it our way approach that was it. I think my frustration comes from the fact the hockey project is an extremly easy to work with group of people that have back and forth discussions dispite having extremely opposite views sometimes (like the diacritics), that when I encounter someone who refuses to work with others to come to a solution that works for both that it becomes impossible to deal with them. -DJSasso (talk) 18:38, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Pierre Mcguire

Hi Resolute. You were helping me little over a year ago edit Pierre McGuire's section. I finally submitted what I thought was a solidly sourced edit but it was not accepted. I looked up the person who denied my entry and from their background and their response to my entry it is clear they don't have the hockey knowledge needed for this task. I wrote him and told him that and asked if you could oversee my changes instead. Here is what my proposed addition looks like now, I did take into account his comments and made some slight changes.

While some people enjoy McGuire's analysis and commentary his style does lend itself to criticism. In the past McGuire himself has stated his desire to broadcast "obnoxiously" (1) and in the eyes of some he has succeeded. Even members of the media, which are normally very reserved in their criticism of peers, have taken shots at McGuire. Some have pointed to his lack of credibility as analyst due to dubious performance as a hockey executive (2) while others have mocked his style as a broadcaster (3).

The three sources are all credible, especially when it comes to matters relating to hockey. As you know McGuire has many detractors but finding members of the media from sources Wikipedia deems credible willing to write critical articles about McGuire is very difficult because they are essentially criticizing themselves and cannibalising the industry in which they are employed. Taylor Hall disambiguation

Your deletion of a disambiguation page Taylor Hall (disambiguation) shows up on my Watchlist. Checking my NRHP source, i see there is at least one National Register of Historic Places-listed building named Taylor Hall, and I further see that is ambiguous with name of a hockey player whose article is currently at Taylor Hall. I think i must have created the dab page or edited it. I imagine there are other people and places of this name. It's notable, as it is listed on the NRHP, which means it meets objective criteria for historic notability established by the National Register, and it went thru many levels of review, and extensive documentation is available (at least upon request to the National Register). P.S. I think you may be unfamiliar with dab page policy/guidelines with respect to redlinks. The redlink entry i would have put on the dab page would have been supported by a bluelink to National Register of Historic Places listings in Pulaski County, Georgia, an article which shows the same redlink in meaningful context. That, plus the topic being notable, suffice to satisfy MOS:DABRL, the specific policy/guideline on redlinks in dab pages. It was thus a valid entry, so the dab page shouldn't have been deleted, losing that. I am not sure, but I think if the dab page only included the 2 hockey players of that name, then it would still have been valid. Certainly with 3 valid items on the page, the dab page is justified. Although the redlink with its supporting bluelink would have sufficed, in response to your request I did create the NRHP article, with just National Register database info for now. Wikicup

I saw on the discussion page of the S Line (hockey) that you were participating in the Wikicup and just wanted to see if you were interested in competing a FL I started awhile back. I started to bring the List of Los Angeles Kings players up to FL status but it took so long to impute all of the stats and tables with the sort system that I got sick of working on the page. It needs an intro, alt text and the captions need to be rewritten or referenced, and it could probably use some minor cleanup, but it shouldn't take too long to complete. At this point I have no intention of coming back to this page anytime soon but part of me feels like it's a waste to have done that much work and not have the page put up for FLC. I thought it might help you in the Cup standings as a FLC might be easier to get through with all of the back log of GAC right now. 1. What does Prose mean? (referring to Wikipedia:Good article criteria, 1.a)
2. I looked over some reviews and saw they were being rated by fail and pass symbols on each question of the criteria, and then at the end there is a overall rating, how do you work out the overall rating?
3. Can reviews be done over time?
4. How do you offically decide if the article passes or not?
5. Does all the reviews have to start by rating by the criteria and then have a couple of paragraph's at the end?

AJHL Playoffs

Nice find. I found those brackets on the Hockey Canada website a few months ago on the 1999 RBC page. I took those playoff stats though... thanks. For the AJHL and SJHL, I have 1998-99 and 2005-06 to present -- as opposed to OHA Jr. A, MJHL, or BCHL, in which I have every year. Just like the AJHL and SJHL, I have similar problems with the CJHL, Quebec, and Maritime leagues as well... lol. A bit of work cut out for me.

Right now I am rebuilding the history, game-by-game, for the Post-1970 Mowat Cup... then I plan to do the Doyle Cup... game-by-game... then the Abbott Cup... Game-by-Game.... I've already got most of the Dudley Hewitt Cup, Fred Page Cup, Callaghan Cup, Hewitt-Dudley Memorial Trophy and regional trophies like the Veitch Memorial Trophy (NL), Buckland Trophy (OHA), and Turnbull Cup (MAN)... just a matter of filling in gaps. Your words re the last sighting being on a chairlift - please quote your reference on that. I have not read or heard that anywhere. The Esquire article states, "Duncan told Walter that after snowboarding for a while longer, he might hike one of the trails in the mountains that cradle the glacier. It was a beautiful day. They shook hands and said goodbye." That was the last known sighting of Duncan, walking out of the ski shop toward the wilderness after shaking hands with the employee of the shop (Walter). Where do you get a chairlift sighting out of that?

You removed my reference to the job in Scotland being with an upstart club - why? Your going to question every adjective a person posts? Again, read the Esquire article http://www.esquire.com/features/the-game/ESQ0104-JAN_GAME, the author refers to Duncan himself having "gut doubt" about the situation in Scotland. Its a hockey team in Scotland - Scotland! Not a hockey hotbed. Calling a hockey team located in Scotland "upstart" is in no way out of bounds.

My verbiage refers to his stint with the islanders coming to an unhappy end - read the esquire article, "Sitting there in his suit and tie, he started coming to terms with the inevitable: Some fate other than fame awaited him." Does that sound happy to you? What do people come to terms with? He wanted fame and to play in the NHL, he wasn't going to get it. Its an unhappy outcome.

That's about right. Because the Oilers play in blue, it made my decision to pick a hockey team to follow all the more easier to make.

It's kind of ironic you should mention you Wikicup articles, since they were part of the reason I put the list together. Between your DYK's and GAs of HOFers I realized how little I knew about them and then how little was written about some of them. I don't know if anything will ever come of the list but at least it gives a perspective and a possible goal for articles that need improvement.

On a side note I was wondering about your wikicup experience. I was thinking it might be fun to try and be in it next year, depending on how some of the GAN I've been working on go, and wanted to know if you had a good experience and whether or not it would be something you would recommend? Got an opinion on if this is notable? I did a very minimal google search and most things that popped up are just ads or directory listings. There are hundreds of hockey schools out there that have produced NHL players so that doesn't phase me, the only part that might is its claim that its the longest continuously running one.
