License tagging for Image:Haigazian University logo.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Haigazian University logo.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 13:05, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Copyright problems with Image:Scotch egg.gif edit

An image that you uploaded, Image:Scotch egg.gif, has been listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems because it is a suspected copyright violation. Please look there if you know that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), and then provide the necessary information there and on its page, if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.

Need to have correct copyrights edit

Image:AUB old college.jpg, Image:American University of Beirut.jpg, etc. that you have uploaded do not seem to be Logos. They appear more to be photos. They will eventually get deleted if you don't specify correct copyrights. Photos that are safe to use are (1) photos you take yourself, (2) photos were you have permission from the person that took the photo and (3) photos you find are US government websites. There are others like logos but these are obviously not logos. --MarsRover 20:13, 18 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Halal Dichotomy edit

Hello! I just saw your change on the Halal article, changing the parallel to Judaism from using the word "kosher" to "kashrut". I am reverting this change back to kosher, because that is the accurate term. Kashrut is the name of the Jewish laws, while kosher is derived from a word that means "fit", very much like halal.Starwarp2k2 05:53, 1 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re: Thanks for the info. I was still trying to master the differences between those terms, ever since I was transfered to the Kashrut article while clicking on the Kosher link through Nando's. But I guess I did the wrong thing there.

Image tagging for Image:Ehab Tawfik.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Ehab Tawfik.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

re: About Islam's template edit

consensus means to obtain general agreement on the issue with other wiki editors (i.e. everyone agrees to the suggested change. see WP:CON). with regards to the template image, i think the mosque image is o.k, as it is described as the bayt allāh and traditionally has significant importance in islam as the social and religious center of the muslim community. i don't really mind though, but this topic is best discussed on the template talk page. thanks. ITAQALLAH 16:05, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the description of consensus. Guess I'm still learning much in the Islamic life. :) I kinda like the green and orange color though -- just for the Ramadan make-over; nothing bigger than that. However, we may have problems adjusting the background color with the mosque or with the "Allah" calligraphy. I made a minor test with Microsoft Paint (R) :S - Qasamaan 19:35, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Chuba Okadigbo.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Chuba Okadigbo.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Sami Yusuf.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Sami Yusuf.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Unspecified source for Image:Maghen Avraham Synagogue.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Maghen Avraham Synagogue.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- tariqabjotu 22:59, 4 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi again. I'm sorry and I thank you for understanding. I guess you would realize that I was trying to do what's best. I am, however, going to start this project one day. It's just that a wikiproject as wide-scoped as this needs some planning and enough members to keep it up and running, something not really possible currently. I would be glad to offer help or advice if you need it and I'd be glad to discuss any issue or project/work with you. Just drop me a message, any time. Have a great day, Omar! ← ANAS Talk? 12:58, 16 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Where are you from edit

To answer your first question, I'm not Lebanese, but I do live in Lebanon. My Arabic is good (I'm a native speaker), but I'm afraid I can't contribute to the Arabic Wikipedia right now. I'm currently very busy in real life, and when I do get time, I focus my edits on imporving Lebanon, which I hope will reach FA status one day. Once I become free enough, and Lebanon is FA, I assure you that my next project will be the Arabic article. I hope I see you there soon! —LestatdeLioncourt 08:48, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Judaism template edit

I saw the new template on the Talk:Abraham page. I also saw that the template as it now exists doesn't show that image. I have a few questions, as one of the more active members of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Religion. I personally question whether this is the appropriate template for a number of reasons. One, there may also be a few other sects involved in Biblical matters, for instance the Mandeans, who are not covered by any of the "smaller-scope" religion projects. For reasons like this, personally, I think it would be more appropriate to perhaps use the Template:WPReligion. Also, I note that there is a Wikipedia:WikiProject Bible, which has its own banner, which would cover much the same territory as the "expanded" banner you had created. I hope that you realize that I am in no way, shape or form criticizing you for your work or impugning it. Also, frankly, I have a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth because of the conduct of one member of several of the Judaism projects, so I don't mind his having the "exclusive" claim he seems to feel the project has on these articles negated. However, I do think that it might be less controversial if the one banner were not used for all the projects too often. Having said that, I can easily imagine creating work groups or task forces in the Religion project for both the Abrahamic religions and the Dharmic religions, which would act independently of the larger project. That might be another way to go. Anyway, congratulations on the quality of the work you have done on the template. However, if it wasn't approved by the rest of the project, I think you might face some problems. Badbilltucker 21:39, 24 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

My apologies. I was not implying that you needed anyone's approval for anything. However, I have already been through the difficulties of changing an existing template, and know how obstreperous some parties can be. You might have noticed the flack about the Religion banner some time back, which I am specifically referring to. And, from what I saw, you were actually seeming to use the existing banner, which didn't seem to have that option in it (I checked), and I was more than a little shall we say surprised when I saw it. I don't handle surprises real well, and I'm afraid that may have colored my phrasing. Also, I neglected to say (evidently in my haste to get back to assessments) that there are clearly other subjects, for instance, the Sabbateans (first one I could think of, not implying anything by the choice), who do not really fall within the scope of Christianity, Islam, or possibly even Israel. (I think he was Turkish? Sorry, it's been awhile). Lastly, I note that the Christian and Islamic history groups referred to in the banner don't actually even exist. The banner can be seen in that way as indicating that someone should create such projects, and that isn't always the best way to go. I wouldn't mind proposing such projects (I do that a lot, by the way; check the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals page for verification if you want) but I would wait for them to exist before adding them to the banner. Also, there are now different standards among projects for assessments, and having only one banner try to serve for more than one unrelated project with potentially different assessment standards might cause trouble in and of itself. One of my ultimate hopes is to try to get some of the groups (or at least banners) arranged in task forces/work groups a la Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history, Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography, and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia, but I think we're going to have to see a lot of banner clutter before that day arises, as I doubt it would happen otherwise. I applaud the idea of consolidating into fewer banners, and actually hope to help bring that day forward. But I have learned that trying to prevent something before it becomes a problem doesn't work around here. And, personally, I'm not trying to dissuade you from keeping at least a revised version of it on the pages it is already one (revised for the non-inclusion of the nonexistent projects). But I do think that the Islam project in particular might have objections, and I'm fairly sure that if Christianity gets its own work groups, such a potentially complicated banner would be a real problem to keep current. If you haven't received any other complaints yet, I'd try to keep the banners in place, as they do reduce clutter. Just trying to warn you of some of the objections that might arise. Again, sorry if it was taken as anything else. And, finally, if you would like to maybe help in getting an Abrahamic religion or Dharmic religion group together, I think that that might even be a quicker way to achieve the same goals. Again, my apologies for having been expressed myself poorly earlier. Anyway, back to the assessments. Badbilltucker 22:42, 25 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Breakfast to Breakfast edit

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Breakfast to Breakfast, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. Hi there edit

Yeah, sure I'm the author of these pictures. However, I am not familiar with how to make these pictures accessible for other languages. I never took the time to learn well how to use this system, I don't have enough time to do that anyways. Nonetheless, you can feel free to use them, I reall don't mind it. :)

By the way, seems like we'd have many disagreements, but that's really cool to be contacted by a muslim. Must say that happens as good as never. :) Okay, take care and feel free to let me know if there's anything else you want.

Cheers. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cccc3333 (talkcontribs) 21:18, 12 February 2007 (UTC).Reply

Shalo'wm wa elr to'wv. I can tell you are a Jew, and that's cool too; you should be glad I'm not a Lebanese Shia Muslim (heehee :D). But anyways, the truth is that, really, there are hardly any differences between Jews and Muslims, except that we are like fire and water -- if that's the best way to put it.
As for commons.wikimedia.org, it is almost as the same as uploading files to Wikipedia.org itself. Except, non-English Wikipedians can actually share it via Wikipedia with respect to there corresponding languages.
To'wdah wa laylah to'wv. :)

Hey! edit

I hope I am making it right, 'cause this is the first time I thread a message. I have never known how to do it before, but now I took a minute to look at it, and I suppose that's how it's done. I hope I'm right. :)

To be quite frank with you, I'm not that bothered about anyone's religion or other affiliations, it's mostly about who they are, how friendly and positive they are and what they make of themselves. I believe that is probably more important than being either fire or water, and in fact, I don't have enemies, so it's someone else's problem if they see an enemy in me - 'cause I'm most probably not, and it's all in their heads. :)

As for the wiki topics. A. You can really even save these pictures and upload them yourself, and say that you have permission to do it. I really don't mind. As long as these pictures aren't used for making profit, I'm okay with that. Anything for leisure or academic or what-so-ever 'typical' useage is totally fine by me. B. Yes, many people create such user pages, and your offer is honestly very kind and even quite tempting, but I'm afraid I simply don't have time to do that. I know from my own experience that if I start donating to wikipedia, I soon find myself mostly occupied with that, and I cannot let than happen as I have lots of stuff to do, routinly. I used to write quite a lot on the Hebrew version, but I learnt that it hooks me too badly. I even used to write on it for a long time without even being a member.

Anyway, these are all long stories. :)

Really, feel free to use these pictures or any other picture/information I might upload in the future. And let me know if there's anything else I could do. (I'm short on time, but I still do have some :) )

Shalom! :)

I'll upload the pics as you said and give the credits to you. It's nice talking with you by bro. - Qasamaan 14:56, 14 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned fair use image (Image:American University College of Science and Technology.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:American University College of Science and Technology.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use.

Non-free use disputed for Image:Fastlink logo.gif edit

  This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Fastlink logo.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 07:49, 4 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Maghen Abraham Synagogue photo edit

Hi Omar! I have just noticed that the photo has changed in the Maghen Abraham Synagogue article. I tried to find to old image but it seems that it was deleted when you uploaded the newer photo. That is quite a shame. In future maybe try naming the file slightly differently which would solve this problem. Chesdovi 09:43, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your reply; I just thought the photo with the façade would add to the article. I’m not sure how you could find it online, but if you could it would be fantastic. As to your query: I live in London and most of my great-grand parents came to the UK from Lithuania. Chesdovi 16:37, 3 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your edits regarding Serj Tankian edit

Hello. I notice you added a {{pp-protected}} template to Serj Tankian. Simply adding a template to an article does not automatically protect the page, and they shouldn't be used unless the page is actually protected. Only administrators can protect pages, but you can request protection for an article here. Please keep in mind, however, one of Wikipedia's great and defining qualities is it's a free encyclopedia that "anyone can edit". Page protection should only be used in extreme cases where there's a lot of vandalism going on or editwarring. Looking at the history of Serj Tankian, I don't see much of either, so I wouldn't suggest protection, but if you think it needs it, feel free to make a request. Cheers, Rocket000 14:00, 10 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Blocking and Reviewing Request edit

alSala';amu alaykum wa rahamtu alLahi wa baraka'atuh. I wish to request that this page should be locked from editing for now. Someone, within the past 48 hours, labelled Serj Tankian as "Borat".

Also, if you aren't busy, let me know what it would take to get Beirut to become a featured article. Thanks. - Omar 180 10:22, 10 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

That's not a good enough reason to protect an article. As for bringing Beirut up to featured status... I think it's got a long way to go. Take a look at other city articles – Jerusalem, New York City, Mumbai, and others found under Wikipedia:Featured articles#Geography and places. The lists under the "Districts & Neighborhoods", "Colleges and universities", "Public Spaces", and "Famous Births" need to be replaced with prose or removed altogether. You should have an well-sourced article made up almost entirely of prose. -- tariqabjotu 17:24, 11 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:AUB_old_college.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:AUB_old_college.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Unspecified source for Image:The_jerusalem_times_logo.gif edit

Thanks for uploading Image:The_jerusalem_times_logo.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:30, 4 January 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECUtalk 20:30, 4 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:Marwan_Khoury.jpg edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Marwan_Khoury.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECUtalk 20:31, 4 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image:Marwan_Khoury.jpg edit

I have tagged Image:Marwan_Khoury.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free. Thank you. MECUtalk 20:31, 4 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Tantalizers edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Tantalizers, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Tantalizers. Wikimedia Stories Project edit

Aloha!

My name is Victor and I work with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. We're chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade new people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who use Wikipedia have so much to share.

I find stories that drive our annual fundraising efforts. It's important to convey the incredible diversity of people who've come to rely upon Wikipedia every day.

I'd really like the opportunity to interview you to tell your story, with the possibility of using it in our materials, on our community websites, or as part of this year’s fundraiser to encourage others to support Wikipedia.

I'm hoping you will elaborate on your story with me, either over the phone, by Skype, by facebook, by email, or any means you like. Please let me know if you're inclined to take part in the Wikipedia Stories Project and we'll set up a good time to discuss further.

Thank you,

File permission problem with File:Syrianthem.mid edit

Thanks for uploading File:Syrianthem.mid. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (talk) 01:29, 16 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 11:27, 20 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
