Announcement edit

Hi, and welcome to the newly started Arab world WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to the Arab World.

The project birthday would be celebrated every August 24.

A few features that you might find helpful:

Important notice
  • We've developed a variety of guidelines for article structure and content, template use, categorization, and other issues that you may find useful. These guidelines can be subject of discussions at the project talkpage or simply WT:ARAB.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask User:FayssalF for the time being, or any experienced member of the project, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around!

File:Port Said 02.jpg edit

Thats again a blatant copyright infringement. A file stolen from the web, retouched a little bit and uploaded with the untrue information "its entirely my own work".

@All: May I ask how many stolen photos, how much lies must we accept from this user? We had Wikipedia:Possibly_unfree_files/2009_November_21#Photographs_by_Arab_League, we had Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/Arab League, we had recently again a bunch of copyright violations photos removed... This guy is stealing without shame, what worth has it not to block this image stealing vandal? --Martin H. (talk) 15:02, 3 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • 1st i would GREATLY appreciate it if you both talk about others in some respect, and having the good intentions, and will gesture...
  • 2nd, i have answered pretty much everything here [1] and have not found a response to of why am i still being under investigation.
  • 3rd, instead of attacking me, it would be more beneficial to Both each others, and wikipedia to assist in changing the copyrights to suit Wikipedia, and to be properly regulated,
  • 4th, i still had no response on how to regulate copyrights, and have not found your assistance in it, yet you keep on attacking me for not changing them...

oh, one last thing... "lies" i my friend have never lied... so i would greatly appreciate it if you don't throw insults around with your spit... Thank you for your respectable message...

Thank you for your time.. Arab League User (talk) 04:08, 4 March 2012 (UTC)--Reply

Stop grabbing files from other websites and stop uploading this files here with the claim that you created them entirely yourself. You did this about 100 times, and it is 100 times wrong. Stop this. Not stealing other peoples work is self-evident, isnt it? Not making false claims is also self-evident, isnt it? If something is not your own work: Do not say it is! --Martin H. (talk) 20:12, 4 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

you obviously have NOT read my response to the Claims, as i have stated that i was NOT aware of the Wikipedia Policy when i Uploaded these Images, and till this date, i do NOT know how to change their license, moreover, some pictures indeed were of my Creation, and most Maps are also My Creation, but again, do not know the proper Licences to upload them, so Stop your crazy Crusade and stop assuming false things... since we are ALL here for the good of Wikipedia and NOT for personal reasons, don't you agree??

Finally, please read my response over the Investigation, since i have already explained this in more details in the investigation [2] i was not contacted since about the investigation, and it has been over 2 years, so i assume its dropped...

Middle East Participation and Presence on Wikipedia Workshop next month edit

Hi Arab Hafez, Some friends of mine are organizing a workshop in Amman in April and I thought you'd be a great addition. You have made such a great contribution to Arab culture and history on Wikipedia and I'm sure others from the region would love to hear more. It sounds like they also have participation grants if you want to apply? Here's the link: http://www.zerogeography.net/2012/02/open-invitation-to-workshop-in-amman.html And let me know if you have any questions? Orphaned non-free media (File:Arab Parliment.GIF) edit

Thanks for uploading File:Arab Parliment.GIF. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Innocence of Muslims film trailer edit

Hi, I'm writing because you are listed in Category:Translators ar-en. It was recently pointed out at Talk:Innocence of Muslims#ARABIC Wikipedia version that the English Wikipedia article on the deliberately inflammatory film trailer Innocence of Muslims contains very much more detailed information about the deliberate deceit on the part of the filmmakers to try to obscure their identity and the nature of the trailers which has not yet been added to the Arabic version at ar:براءة_المسلمين which is getting about 8,000 page views per day presently. Would you please consider adding some of the details which might help Arabic readers understand some of the missing details of the trailers? Request for Support in Respecting Prophet Muhammad edit

Asalamalikum Dear Wikipedian,
I'm Hooperag, a fellow Wikipedian of yours and a fellow Muslim of yours. In this email I would like to ask for your support in my efforts to bring proper respect to Prophet Muhammad and the religion of Islam in Wikipedia articles.

Recently I have been working on articles about religious figures of Islam like Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s.), and Imam Hussain ibn Ali (a.s.), in these articles have added appropriate terms for their respect like changing "Muhammad" to "Prophet Muhammad" and such... As in Islam we are obliged to mention these people’s names with respect, this must also reflect in text.

Unfortunately, however some Wikipedia editors are undoing all these efforts with the claim that such honorary prefixes are biased and violating of Wikipedia’s neutrality. This however could not be farther from the truth.

There are 1.6 billion Muslims on this planet, over 23% of the world’s total population. Tens of thousands of Wikipedia editors are Muslims and hundreds of thousands of Wikipedia readers are Muslims. With so many Muslims how can we let our beloved prophet and his companions be disrespected on the world’s largest encyclopedia?

Wikipedia claims they maintain such a policy to support freedom of speech and fight censorship. However I say that this gives no right for disrespect towards 1.6 billion humans’ prophet and religion. If we are to let things continue like this we will only find our religion and prophet further disrespected on Wikipedia in the coming times.

Things don’t need to be this way. I request your support as a fellow Muslim to voice your support for the usage of respectful terminology regarding the religion of Islam and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on Wikipedia.

Please visit the following link: [Link] and visit the section titled “Request for Respect of our Religion and our Prophet”. Once you are there comment and voice your support!

Please pass this message to as many Wikipedians as you know!

WaalaikumSalam

Far North The communities of Alaska far north are accessible from Fairbanks or across from the Barrow airport lies the Will Rogers and Wiley post Monument, commemorating the 1935 plane crash that killed both the American humorist and the famous pilot. Two other monuments to the famous pair, located at the crash site 15 miles (24 km) south of town, are on the National Register of Historic Places.

Whaling and other subsistence activities still play an important role in this Arctic community. In fact, during April and May, visitors can often watch as Native people head for their whaling camps.

Barrow has several hotels, restaurants and other visitor services. There are shops for visitors to purchase Native clothing, masks, basks and dolls.

Two hundred miles (332 km) east of Barrow is Prudhoe Bay, home of what was once the largest oil field in North America. The 800-mile (1,287-km)trans-Alaska pipeline start here and ends in Valdez.

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:10, 20 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Two pages of the same edit

as an Egyptian I was surprised to find two pages on the same district with the same name. Coptic Cairo and Old Cairo are the exact same thing. they are both the exact same district with different names, the official name of the district in elections and in gov. papers is Old Cairo (Masr El-Qadima) but the Coptic cairo part is used sometimes as well by local people. I suggest a Merge between both pages ~~--

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have recently shown interest in the Arab–Israeli conflict. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

East Port Said Port moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, East Port Said Port, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.
