Image copyright problem

This image may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Willie Davis 1964-Topps-068.jpg. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law. We need you to specify two things on the image description page:

  • The copyright holder, and
  • The copyright status

The copyright holder is usually the creator. If the creator was paid to make this image, then their employer may be the copyright holder. If several people collaborated, then there may be more than one copyright holder. If you created this image, then you are the copyright holder.

Because of the large number of images on Wikipedia, we've sorted them using image copyright tags. Just find the right tag corresponding to the copyright status of this image, and paste it onto the image description page like this: {{TAGHERE}}.

There are 3 basic ways to licence an image on Wikipedia:

  • The copyright holder can also release their work into the public domain. See here for examples.
  • Images from certain sources are automatically released into the public domain. This is true for the United States, where the Wikimedia servers are located. (See here for images from the government of the USA and here for other governments.) However, not all governments release their work into the public domain. One exception is the UK (see here for images from the UK government). Non-free licence governments are listed here.
  • Also, in some cases, an image is copyrighted but allowed on Wikipedia because of fair use. To see a) if this image qualifies, and b) if so, how to tag it, see Wikipedia:Fair use.

For more information, see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Please remember that untagged images are likely to be deleted.

If you have uploaded other images without including copyright tags, please go back and tag them. Also, please tag all images that you upload in the future.

If you have any questions, just leave a message on my talk page. Thanks again. --wknight94 01:17, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

Baseball card images

If you think the images are fair use, I'll take your word for it!  :) But you should put one of the image fair-use tags on the images. Otherwise, they will continue to show up on Wikipedia:Untagged images which is generated automatically. The list of tags you can use is at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Happy New Year to you too!  :) wknight94 18:59, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

Your image tag looks fine to me. Besides, I had enough people yell at me for trying to follow the image tag rules that I really don't care anymore! :( wknight94 21:31, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

Baseball on Wikicities

Hi MusiCitizen, Googie Man here - you may know me as someone who makes edits on baseball, but not nearly as many as you do. I wanted to let you know, in case you don't already, made by Jimbo and Angela called Wikicities. This link in particular will take you to the baseball Wikicity. As you'll see it's similar to Wikipedia, but my hope is this will allow baseball fans to do more and different things, like reporting on games, in depth statistics, create mulitple pages for pictures, and whatever else baseball fans care to create. You've done such great work on Wikipedia I was hoping you could help me get this baseball Wikicity off the ground. Let me know what you think. Thanks! Googie Man(Talk), 21:00, 2 January 2006.

Images

Just to let you know that you have uploaded a large number of images with no information about their source, copyright status or anything on their image description pages. And they are in the process of being deleted. I suspect this is a problem. Please look over your contributions to the Image namespace and properly tag all the images you wish to keep uploaded; otherwise, sadly, they will probably be deleted. An example is Image:MLB-Lefty Gomez.jpg. JesseW, the juggling janitor 18:51, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

Image listed for deletion

An image or media file that you uploaded, Image:Vic Wertz Topps card.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.

Re: Hello Tony

Thanks for letting me know about the baseball cat that was posted for deletion. I posted my vote. Take a look and let me know what you think. What do you think about Bruce Sutter going into the Hall without Rich Gooseage? Tony the Marine 02:05, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

Sure thing. Also, if you don't have a problem, I'm going to try to update the Baseball portal with the information in your articles. Great work on things.Xalfor 21:41, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

New Sports Wiki Community

A group of friends and I are starting a new MediaWiki-based site that hopes to become the largest sports open-content sports website in the world. We noticed your exceptional work here and are hoping that you would like to help us start a sports specific wiki community.

We made a number of improvements on the MediaWiki engine that allow for opinion stories on the site (separate from the NPOV pages, don't worry!) and a lot of other things. I'm coming to you now because because we think your one of the best sports Wikpedians out there. We think that you would be a valuable addition to our new community. When you have the chance, drop me an email through Wikipedia or leave a note on my talk page. I'd be glad to explain the site to you further. Even if you don't want to join our community, we would appreciate any feedback from a seasoned Wikipedia user, like yourself. Thanks! --DNL 16:57, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Alvaro Espinoza.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

Request for edit summary

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 28% for major edits and 20% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 150 minor edits in the article namespace.)

This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 23:30, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

Image tagging

Thanks for uploading Image:Bob_Boyd_54_Topps-113.jpg. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to indicate why we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies under Wikipedia's fair use guidelines, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you want the image to be deleted, tag it as {{db-unksource}}.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.

Thanks for the Birthday wish my friend. Today I wanted to get Roger Clemens autograph. I was told that the USA Team was staying at the "Ritz". I went there and I found everybody, The San Antonio Spurs and The National Mexican Baseball Team there, but no USA Team. Clemens is the only future Hall of Famer that I need for my collection. Update on Template:This Date in Baseball History

Thanks for positive feedback on the baseball history template update. The work on the Template:This Date in Baseball History calendar template is much appreciated, making a new generic Template:This Date possible for other topics. The template has an Esoteric tag since the coding might get a bit spooky, but hopefully the parameters are straightforward; please advise me of any issues. Category:Dates in baseball should also be more orderly now. Also added a few dates based on the Montreal Expos article e.g. July 28 in baseball. Hope all this helps the WP baseball effort. Hi. I just wanted to give you a warning that the image police are cracking down heavily on fair use images lately. I've had one marked as a copyvio. Hi there:

I noticed that you recently made some formatting changes to John Sullivan (disambiguation) and Harry Smith. In particular, you used piping to hide parenthetical disambiguators in wikilinks. Please don't do that; although it is not an unusual practice, it violates the Wikipedia Manual of Style.

New Baseball season and need help with baseball site!

With that out of the way, now to the favor I ask of you. By the way, you used to know the site as Wikicities, but now is called Wikia. Here's the link [1] - I sure hope to see you there. Any ideas on how to make the site more fun will be greatly appreciated! All the best, Terry Foote a.k.a Googie man 17:49, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Willie Sudhoff.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Hetar 18:02, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging

Thanks for uploading Image:Clint Courtney-mitt.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Strikeouts per nine innings

Hi, baseball guy!  :) FYI, I added two new merge tags to your Strikeouts per nine innings article. It looks like someone added two new articles for the same stat and then left Wikipedia. Thought you might want to see what's salvageable in those and just redirect them. —Wknight94 (talk) 16:36, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Ramon Hernandez 01.JPEG. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 22:48, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Revert of 1971 Debuts List

Just dropping you a note to let you know I reverted the addition of this list that you put in the articles for several basebally players. The player biography pages are for information about those individual players, and who happened to reach the big leagues the same year they did is not relevant to their lives and adds unnecessary clutter to the pages. I would suggest creating a categories (1971 baseball rookies, 1953 baseball rookies, etc.) to convey this information. Indrian 17:30, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Oldest living major leaguers

The oldest living major leaguers page has several guys on it who have been dead for a long time. For example, Wayne Osborne died in 1987! The most accurate and definitive list of OLML on the internet is the one I maintain at http://www.whosaliveandwhosdead.com/l_majlea.asp. I added this site to the references section, since it was obviously used as a source, but I did not take out all of the dead people. Baseball-reference.com and other similar sites cannot be relied upon for logging all deaths or for getting DOBs and DODs correct.

Contributions

I'd like to thank you for all you have done for Wikipedia in the subject of baseball.

However, I just have a little request. In some of your articles, I see that you added something like [mid] or [end], and I'd just like to let you know that it really isn't necessary to put that in. Most people know that the player must have been traded or picked off waivers (or something along those lines) and if they really are curious about his stats and the times of when he was playing with different teams, then they could check out one of the external links, like baseball-reference.

Thanks!

August

re February 28 in baseball et al

I am deleting these after Transwiki'ing them to baseball.wikia.com per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/October 2 in baseball.

I think these are great articles. I and I'm sure many others agree with that. However, a number of Wikipedians felt that this was too much detail for this general encyclopedia and that the material was best served over at the baseball wiki.

I hope you don't see that as in any way a disparagement of your fine and valuable work. The baseball wiki is a sister project (although not actually a part of Wikimedia). Moving these to the baseball wiki is basically just a technical redordering of the content structure for better overall access.

If you have any questions about this please call me. Herostratus 18:23, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Unspecified source for image

Thanks for uploading Image:Long Tom Hugues.JPEG. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Request for opinion

I'd prefer not to drag other people into this, but could you have a look at the discussion at Talk:Jake Daubert? I'd be most interested in additional opinions in the dispute between me and Tecmobowl as to the article content. MisfitToys 21:05, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

¡Hola!

Thanks for your kind words...much appreciated! :0) I also want to compliment you on all the work you have done in the baseball area of Wikipedia, as it's quite impressive. BurmaShaver 02:25, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Ernie White

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Ernie White, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree, discuss the issues raised at Talk:Ernie White. If you remove the {{dated prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. --M1ss1ontomars2k4 (T | C | @) 01:00, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Vote stacking at CFD to keep All Star game categories

I'm not sure you understand what is being proposed at CFD about the All Star game categories. I did not propose that the two parent categories be deleted. I propoosed that all the categories by year be deleted and the contents merged into the two top level categories. As articles are being written about each all star game, they can include a complete roster of who played on each team and be anotated with information about their position, and other stats. This is a much better way to present this information than having numerous categories that clutter up articles.

Even if I can't convince you that they should be deleted, it is considered bad form to leave messages on individuals pages asking them to vote a certain way at CFD, AFD, etc... It is considered vote stacking. If you want to leave a neutrally worded message at a wikiproject or a notice board, that is acceptable. Thanks, -- Samuel Wantman 03:20, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Zach Duke image

Thanks for uploading Image:Zach Duke.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Chowbok 23:43, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image

Thanks for uploading Image:Alex Gonzalez (Bosox).jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Thank you. Fritz Saalfeld (Talk) 14:17, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
